秋の京都　紅葉巡り2023 第２回 永観堂

Kyoto in autumn is filled with autumn leaves. Autumn Kyoto autumn leaves tour 2023. This shooting was on November 25, 2023. For the second time, we will visit Eikando Zenrin-ji Temple, which is famous as Momiji Temple. Please see access from Kyoto Station. When using the municipal subway.

From Kyoto Station, take the municipal subway Karasuma Line bound for Kokusai Kaikan. At Karasuma-Oike Station, transfer to the Tozai Line bound for Rokujizo. Get off at Keage Station. Take the first exit and go north from Nejirimanpo under the incline, passing through Nanzenji and heading north on Shikagaya Dori.

It is about a 15 minute walk from Keage Station to Eikando. When using city bus. From Kyoto Station Karasumaguchi A1 bus stop, take the 5th bus.

Get off at Nanzenji/Eikando Michi. It’s about a 5 minute walk. After photographing the autumn leaves at Nanzenji Temple, we headed north along Shikagaya Street from Daijakumon Gate. This waterway is the Ogi dam spillway. The water flows into the Lake Biwa Canal Nanzenji boat pool.

Upstream of this is a small dam called the Ogi Dam of the Lake Biwa Canal Water Line. Nowadays it is well maintained, but 50 years ago it was a place where you could catch river crabs. By the way, on both sides of this waterway is my alma mater, Higashiyama High School.

Next door to the north of Higashiyama High School is our destination, Eikando Zenrinji Temple. There were so many worshipers that there was a line in front of the Chumon gate. While looking up at the autumn leaves, we pass through the Chumon gate and enter the temple grounds.

Enter the temple grounds, go up to the main hall through the main entrance, and look at the garden from inside. Please enjoy the autumn leaves of Eikando. Leave the Mido and head towards the Tahoto Pagoda. Climb the stairs to Tahoto. Tahoto pagoda offers a panoramic view of Kyoto city. It’s a wonderful view.

After enjoying the autumn leaves at Eikando, head to Shinnyodo from Kurotani Konkai Komyoji Temple. Next time, we will go to the sub-temple of Konkai Komyo-ji Temple to view the autumn leaves at Eishoin Temple, a famous autumn foliage spot known only to those in the know. Stay tuned.
