Trivia: It’s pretty easy to navigate yourself in Sannomiya. When you see mountains that’s north. So I remember such conversations with my friends like “Let’s meet up on the mountain side of the street. Not the sea side.”

We were there October 2019. Shortly before the world got broken.
Sannomiya Station has a small cafe that serves great pastries. We'd have breakfast there sometimes or have a light snack while waiting for the hotel shuttle.
Too bad we had to leave the day before they opened the Gundam art exhibition at the Hyogo Museum.
We're going back when the world gets fixed up.

Its Kobe ❤️ always been my fav city all over Japan. not too crowded, not too much glasses buildings, clean tidy city, ppl r stylish. one new things i just noticed was ppl in Kobe seem enjoy walking like they just casually walking unlike in Tokyo where ppl always being in sucha hurry n walk fast.
Kobe is a dreamy city for me ❤️🇯🇵

I moved from JPN to NZ 26 yrs ago. I was born and raised in Tokyo and lived in Osaka for a few years, but before moving to NZ, I used to live in Kobe for many years, and yes, I experienced that dreadful earthquake (and another one here in Chch 16 years later!).
Just like NZ is my country by choice, Kobe was my city by choice. And, Kobe is still my very fave city in JPN (perhaps in the world). While it’s very sophisticated and urbanized with a highly developed infrastructure and transportation systems, nature (both the sea and the mountains) is so easily accessible, which IMO is a great advantage Kobe has over Yokohama.

21:35 The take-out "Menchi katsu" at Moriya Shoten(森谷商店) at the end of the sidewalk is horribly delicious, so if you are ever in Kobe, give it a try.
Exactly how i estimated this city. Clean. No. Extremely clean. Green. Nice. I think it's the best place for the first Japan trip because it's not so big like Osaka or Tokyo.
