Albinism is a rare genetic condition where you aren’t born with the usual amount of melanin pigment. When photographing models with albinism it’s important to experiment with exposure and lighting a bit to make sure the skin is not too washed out. Also, it’s important to remember that many people with albinism may have some light sensitivity so we often use soft lighting and try to avoid direct frontal lighting or anything that’s too harsh. For kids, one trick that usually works well for focusing the eye is to have them close their eyes and count down to the shutter click. It’s easy for them to comprehend and usually gets the job done. We love celebrating the differences that make us all beautiful and unique.”
