Find out what’s in #CanonExplorerOfLight @georgelepp’s gear bag! “Now that I’ve adopted Canon’s new mirrorless system, I’m traveling light! All the gear I need for working in the field fits into a fairly small (22L) photo backpack. As I hike about, seeking to photograph wild birds and mammals and their scenic environments, I am ready for anything with this setup. Typically I’ve got the EOS R5 mirrorless body and the RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM lens, and the RF1.4X extender (700mm) in hand. For wide-angles, I have the EF24-105mm f/4L II, and at the longest reach I have the RF800mm F11 IS STM; with the option of adding the RF2x Extender, I can get to 1600mm @ f/22. That covers a pretty extensive range and almost everything in-between. Every one of these lightweight and compact combinations is hand-holdable thanks to great in-body and/or in-lens image stabilization.
Here is the list of everything that’s in the bag, keyed to the numbered items in the photograph.
1. Canon EOS R5 camera body
2. Canon RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM
3. Canon RF800mm F11 IS STM
4. Canon EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM
5. Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R
5A. Polarizing Filter for Mount Adapter
5B. Variable Neutral Density Filter for Mount Adapter
6. Canon RF1.4x Extender
7. Canon RF2x Extender
8. Canon Electronic Cable Release that fits EOS R5
9. Extra Hoodman memory cards (CF Express and SDXC II 2000X)
10. Canon LP-E6NH Batteries (I carry 4, one is in the camera)
I have other setups for macro or landscape, but that’s another bag story.”
Ciao, Nihon.
