#BehindTheShot with #CanonExplorerOfLight @michelecelentanophotographer | “Kate, a recent high school senior was very specific about her senior portrait session. She wanted an outdoor session with lots of green in the background. She also loves backlight and wanted to highlight her blonde hair. She showed me some examples of what she had in mind and I instantly knew how I could create her dream image. We choose a gorgeous outdoor location for her session. The location is actually an organic farm with a wonderful farm to table restaurant. We scheduled her session for late in the day to ensure that beautiful light illuminating her hair. Since I knew I would be using backlight for her hair, I wanted to equally illuminate her face. I brought in a Westcott FJ 400 strobe with a beauty dish modifier. I positioned the light a bit higher than her eye level and close to the center of her face. I did not want to over power the backlight and wanted some of the hair to be over exposed to create the look she wanted. I love using foreground, middle ground and background to create depth and texture in my portraits. The wooden post and door created the foreground and the garden and beautiful light on the background created texture and depth. The gate was a bit too high for this pose so I had Kate stand on an apple box to achieve the correct subject height.” Camera: #Canon EOS 5D Mark IV
