Photo by #CanonExplorerOfLight @tylerstableford | “American farmers help keep our country going, a fact that we are truly appreciating as we all comb the grocery stores for food during this crisis. I was thrilled to have the chance to photograph one of these incredible people, Lyndsey Haraguchi, as part of a personal fine-art portraiture series featuring American farmers.⁣

Lyndsey and her family are sixth-generation farmers who run the Ho`opulapula Haraguchi Rice Mill & Taro Farm in Hanalei, Kauai (@hanaleitaro). The historic farm provided crucial fresh provisions for American soldiers in World War II after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and today Lyndsey and her family operate the Hanalei Taro and Juice Company in downtown Kauai. There you can sample the taro dishes, smoothies and treats right from their farm.⁣

Lyndsey has been featured in many national magazines, and she runs popular school tours and farm visits throughout the year. I captured Lyndsey harvesting taro with the iconic rainforest peaks of Hihimanu, Namolokama and Mamalahoa towering behind her. If you find yourself on Kauai once the world starts moving again, stop by for one of her farm tours!⁣

I captured this image with the Canon EOS R camera and the RF 28-70mm f/2.0 lens during a family trip this winter, while our kids held a reflector for fill light.⁣” Camera: #Canon EOS R
