Okinawa Day 1 Went Completely Wrong | Visa Stress & Last-Minute Decisions in Japan 🇯🇵

After finally making it to Okinawa, Japan 🇯🇵, we thought the hardest part of this trip was over… but we were wrong. We had 16 hours to figure out our next move… and our Vietnam visas STILL weren’t approved. 😬

With flights booked, hotels planned, and everything pointing toward Vietnam 🇻🇳… one problem changed everything:

👉 Our visas were still processing.

That meant one thing — we had to make a decision FAST.

Do we gamble and hope they get approved overnight?
Or rebook EVERYTHING and spend way more money? 💸

This is our first 24 hours in Okinawa, and it quickly turned into a mix of stress, strategy, and some incredible experiences along the way.

🎬 WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS VIDEO:

🇯🇵 Day 1 in Okinawa – Real Travel Chaos

We break down the moment we realized our Vietnam visas weren’t approved
The pressure of a 16-hour countdown before hotel checkout
The real cost of rebooking flights last minute

🍜 First Meal in Okinawa – Okinawa Soba
We kick things off with a simple, local favorite just steps from our hotel.
Thick noodles, rich broth, and a completely different experience from traditional ramen.

♨️ Japanese Bathhouse Experience (りっかりっか湯)
After a long travel day, there was only one move… a full reset.
We walk you through exactly how Japanese bathhouses work (and how to do it right).

🍣 Conveyor Belt Sushi at Sushiro
Fast, affordable, and honestly one of our favorite ways to eat in Japan.
No waiting, endless options, and perfect after a long day.

🛏️ Hotel Room Tour + Travel Hack Breakdown
“How we live in Japan” 🇯🇵
We show you everything inside our hotel AND explain how we paid $0 out of pocket using travel rewards.

💳 Travel Hack Strategy:

Using Capital One Venture & Venture X points
$300 annual travel credit strategy
How sign-up bonuses helped cover flights + hotels

🇯🇵 EXPLORING OKINAWA (NEXT FEW DAYS)

While waiting on our visas, we explored Naha, using local trains and buses (some accept Suica, some are cash only).

We ate our way through:

Local ramen shops 🍜
Famous Japanese convenience stores like 7-Eleven, Lawson, and FamilyMart
Egg salad sandwiches (yes… they’re THAT good)

And spent HOURS editing… because that’s the reality behind travel content.

⚠️ THE TWIST…

After rebooking flights…
After paying MORE money…
After spending HOURS fixing everything…

👉 Our Vietnam visas finally got approved.

Yeah… 😅

🎥 WHY THIS VIDEO MATTERS

This is the reality of travel you don’t always see:

Plans fall apart
Costs change instantly

We have been working and traveling the world together since 2016. We have decided to “risk it all”! We quit our jobs, sold our cars and are hoping to ‘live like locals’ as vagabonds traveling the world. To record and share our experiences with family & friends we are creating these short videos from our travels. We hope you enjoy! – Steven & Elaine

Our Vietnam visas were still “processing”…
Our flights and hotels were already booked…
    And checkout was coming FAST.

👉 Would YOU gamble and hope the visas come through overnight?
👉 Or play it safe and rebook everything (and pay way more 💸)?

Drop your decision below — we’re curious how you would’ve handled this situation 👇

Also… has anything like this ever happened to you while traveling?

And just wait until you see what happens AFTER we rebook everything… 😅
