[Introduction]
The Koma (高麗) area in Hidaka City, Saitama Prefecture, is a historic district with deep ties to the ancient Korean kingdom of Goguryeo. In 716 AD, the Nara government settled 1,799 immigrants from the Korean Peninsula in this region to help develop the land.
Led by the noble figure Koma no Kokishi Jakko, these immigrants brought advanced knowledge in agriculture, architecture, and Buddhism—helping to shape early Japanese society.
Nearby, you can also find Koma Family Residence, preserving the legacy of the original settlers and the gentle flow of the Koma River, which supported their daily lives.
Today, more than 1,300 years later, their legacy still defines the spirit of this region.
