Cats and Dogs Living Together at a Peaceful Japanese Onsen Inn 🐈🐕♨️ | Akasawa Onsen Ryokan
This time, I visited Akasawa Onsen Ryokan in Shiobara Onsen,
a hot spring town with over 1,200 years of history. This is a place where cats and dogs live together.
One of the highlights of the trip was a walk on the second day with a beagle named Boro-kun and a cat named Asa-chan.
Asa-chan kept following along, going back and forth around Boro-kun.
I also visited a small house for rescued cats, which the ryokan has recently started. The cats there were all rescued from around Nasu-Shiobara. In a beautifully renovated old house, they were living quietly together with their families and siblings.
Some of them would bring toys and gently ask to play, and before I knew it, I had spent a long time there with them.

【猫と犬が兄妹みたいに暮らす宿】栃木で見つけた温泉旅館に泊まってきた🐈🐕♨️ | 赤沢温泉旅館
今回は1200年の歴史を持つ塩原温泉郷にある、赤沢温泉旅館へ。ここは、猫と犬が仲良く一緒に暮らす宿。旅のハイライトは、2日目にビーグルのボーロくんと、猫のアサちゃんと一緒に散歩をしたことと、宿で最近始められた保護猫のお家に伺ったこと。散歩中、アサちゃんがボーロくんのまわりを行ったり来たりしながら、ついてくる姿がとても可愛らしかったです。
保護猫のお家は、この那須塩原周辺で保護された猫たちばかり。古民家をきれいにリノベーションした空間で、家族や兄弟で穏やかに過ごしていました。おもちゃをくわえて「遊んで」と持ってくる姿が可愛くて、気づけば長い時間一緒に遊んでいました。猫と犬と温泉と。平和的な旅館での2泊3日の癒し旅を、ぜひお楽しみください。

This ryokan/onsen looks my idea of paradise : nature, water, onsen, cats, dogs, peace, harmony, cleanliness, respect, friendliness, safe…. everything I remember my only visit to Japan to be. I love the cat only ryokan. What a marvellous idea. Since my visit to Japan, and too old and too small pension to be able to return, I dream of being reborn Japanese. Fingers crossed….
