Fukuoka: Omuta Station (福岡県: 大牟田駅) – Japan Walking Tour
On my way from Fukuoka to Kumamoto, I stopped in Omuta, a city that once flourished through coal mining and now hosts World Heritage sites like the Miyanohara Pit. During the day, I explored the Omuta City Coal Industry and Science Museum to learn about the energy history that built this region.
While the area around Shinsakaemachi Station buzzed with energy due to a student-led stamp rally, the atmosphere shifted as twilight fell. Walking through the grand shopping arcades and historic streets, the daytime bustle faded into a quiet, reflective stillness. It was a poignant evening stroll, feeling the weight of time and the lingering echoes of the city’s former prosperity.
