⁴ᴷ Kagoshima: Ibusuki Station (鹿児島県: 指宿駅) – Japan Walking Tour (March, 2026)

I’ve decided to head west in search of warmer weather and travel all the way around Kyushu. After driving to Osaka and taking the ferry to Shin-Moji, I’m continuing my journey through the island.

I’ve moved from the Osumi Peninsula to the Satsuma Peninsula, opting to visit Ibusuki City this time. I had hoped to revisit the arcade shopping street near the station, but it was already gone. The landscape I clearly remember from my 2022 visit disappeared following demolition work that began in November 2024.

While I heard that a morning market has been launched to bring life back to the area, the streets felt strangely empty and unfamiliar without the arcade. It was a poignant walk after sunset, simply recording the reality of a town as its familiar scenery fades away.
