The journey begins in Xinshi, a historic Yangtze River port town often referred to as the “First Port of the Yangtze River.” From here, the road climbs gradually through the hills and valleys of southern Sichuan before reaching Zhongdu, a town with a long history sometimes called the “thousand-year little imperial town.”
Although today the journey follows a modern highway, the surrounding terrain reflects the ancient river routes and mountain paths that shaped transportation and trade in this part of China for centuries.
