Kyoto Station Ultimate Guided Tour – JR, Shinkansen, Kintetsu, Kansai Airport Express & more! 京都駅紹介

A complete guide to Kyoto Station, including JR, Shinkansen and Kintetsu, with a full walk around inside the JR local line area and the area outside JR Kyoto’s Central Exit.

Kyoto Station is a massive building – in fact it’s Japan’s second largest station in physical size – and can be intimidating to new visitor, but it essentially boils down to a main north-south spine, both inside and outside the JR ticket gates. While Kyoto Station has existed since the 1880s, its current futuristic incarnation opened in 1997, standing at a massive 15 floors.

So today you’ll see how to get from the JR Platforms to transfer to other local services, the Shinkansen, the Limited Express trains to Kansai Airport, Hokuriku, Wakayama and beyond. There’s also the Kintetsu line housed in the same building and the Kyoto Subway.

I’ve tried to keep it logical, but let me know if you have any further questions!
