Known as one of the most “impossible” roads in Europe, we navigate 600m drops, hair-raising traffic jams with giant buses, and a 2.4km tunnel that leads directly into the heart of a “hidden” volcanic valley. Whether you’re here for the 4K scenic drive or the adrenaline of the narrow cliff passes, this is a side of Madeira you have to see to believe!

📍 About Curral das Freiras or “Nun’s Valley,” is a small parish nestled in a deep mountain cauldron. In 1566, nuns from the Santa Clara convent in Funchal fled here to hide from French pirates. Today, it remains one of the most spectacular and dramatic landscapes in the world.
