About the Video:
In this Video I am taking you on a visual journey to one of the most scenic day trips to Arashiyma. The journey starts from Kyoto Station where you take a 20 mins train ride to Saga Arashiyam Train Station. A 5 mins walk adjacent to this station will take you to Torokko Saga Station which is the boarding point of the most romantic train journey around Kyoto.
The ride lasts about 25 minutes one way along roughly a 7.3-kilometer scenic route, stopping at stations like Arashiyama Torokko and Hozukyo Torokko before ending at Kameoka Torokko Station.
This journey isn’t about speed — it’s about pure scenery. You’ll travel slowly along the Hozugawa River gorge, with panoramic views of mountain slopes, bamboo forests, and turquoise water below. It’s a photographer’s dream and perfect for couples, families, or anyone who loves nature.
While returning, you have a unique option of taking the Hozugawa River Boat Ride from near Kameoka Torokko Station all the way downstream back to Arashiyama. This cruise lasts around two hours through the valley — offering a completely different angle of the scenic river and surrounding mountains
Once you finish your river boat ride back to Arashiyama, you can easily take the JR Sagano Line back to Kyoto Station, or choose to explore more of Arashiyama’s temples, bamboo groves, and cafes before returning.
I decided to explore Arashiyama’s bamboo forest on the same day.
To reach to Arashiyama Station soon, I took a fast speed JR line train from another station which is 5-7 mins walk from Kameoka Torokko Station.
Arashiyama has a calm, old-town charm that instantly feels different from central Kyoto.
The streets here are lively yet relaxed — filled with traditional wooden storefronts, local snack stalls, cozy cafés, and small souvenir shops
The Arashiyama Bamboo Forest is one of Japan’s most photographed natural landmarks. These towering bamboo stalks can grow over 20 meters tall, creating a peaceful green tunnel that feels almost otherworldly.
ne of the most traditional ways to explore Arashiyama is by a hand-pulled rickshaw. Skilled rickshaw pullers guide visitors through the bamboo forest and town, sharing local stories while offering a truly authentic Kyoto experience
Just a short walk away is the famous Togetsukyo Bridge, stretching gracefully across the Katsura River. The riverside views here are stunning — with flowing water, surrounding mountains, and seasonal beauty that changes throughout the year
