⁴ᴷ Kochi: Gomen Station (高知県: 御免駅) – Japan Walking Tour (January, 2026)
I’ve decided to take an off-season trip back to my hometown in Kobe, using it as a starting point for a journey all the way around Shikoku. After traveling south from Takamatsu through the snowy mountain passes, I’ve arrived in Kochi Prefecture. Today, I’m taking a walk around Gomen Station in Nankoku City.
By the way, I recently learned that “Nankoku City” is actually pronounced “Nan-koku,” not “Nan-goku” as I had always thought.
Starting from the JR station, I noticed that the “Nankoku Symbol Road” has been beautifully completed—it was still under construction during my last visit. This city is also where Takashi Yanase, the creator of Anpanman, spent his childhood. With character statues scattered throughout the town and the newly opened “Yanase Lion Park,” it was a heart-warming stroll through a city filled with his legacy.
