The Zhongluo Line (County Road X508) is a characteristic rural highway connecting Tonglu County Seat and Fenshui Town, stretching for about 40 kilometers. It features an asphalt pavement for the two-way two-lane road, with cement pavement in some village sections, and a designed speed limit of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. A normal trip covering the whole journey, including stops for sightseeing, takes 1.5 to 2 hours. Starting from Tonglu County Seat, the highway passes through Zhongshan Township and Yaolin Town before ending at Fenshui Town, serving as a complementary route to the Tongqian Line (Provincial Highway S208). The Yaolin section (K29+530-K36+900) of the highway will be fully closed for construction from 8:00 to 17:00 daily from January 10 to June 15, 2026, with construction suspended during the Spring Festival travel rush (February 2 to March 8). It is recommended to plan your trip in advance before departure.
This highway links a diverse range of landscapes and rural settlements, with each section boasting unique features. The section from the county seat to Zhongshan Township offers views of the starting point of the Huxiao Gorge Rafting, stream valley scenery and She ethnic villages. The upgraded Zhongshan-Yaolin section features improved traffic conditions, with farmlands and Asian Games-themed installations forming a delightful contrast. The Yaolin-Fenshui Town section allows visitors to explore the karst cave wonder of Yaolin Fairyland and enjoy the river scenery along the Fenshui River as well as the style of ancient bridges. Different sections are suitable for various creative needs such as travel vlogging, rural documentary shooting and landscape photography.
The overall road condition of the Zhongluo Line is good. Drivers only need to watch out for pedestrians and non-motor vehicles in village sections, as well as numerous sharp bends, steep slopes and narrow bridges along the entire route. It is advised to honk the horn and slow down when passing bends. The line is well-equipped with supply facilities including homestays, farm restaurants and small supermarkets, and supplies can also be replenished in Yaolin Town and Fenshui Town. Boasting distinct scenery in all four seasons—peach blossoms and rapeseed flowers in spring, rafting in summer, golden rice fields for photography in autumn, and frosty road surfaces to watch out for in winter—the Zhongluo Line is an excellent route for slow self-driving tours and travel photography in Tonglu. Meanwhile, as an important link road for northern towns and townships in the area, the highway has undergone multiple upgrades and renovations in 2019 and 2023, which have continuously optimized the travel experience and effectively boosted the development of Fenshui’s stationery manufacturing industry and rural tourism along the line.
