The Ghibli-like private island onsen ryokan that can only be accessed by boat | Hidden gem of Japan

This time, we’re visiting a private island onsen nestled within the cove of Kii-Katsuura of the Wakayama prefecture, reachable only by boat! Along the way, we also stop by Nachi Mountain to visit the temple plateau and Japan’s largest free-flowing waterfall as well as Totoro’s summer residence.

The train ride there was as much of an experience while passing Shirahama Beach which, being the sister beach to Waikiki Beach, is an ode to our previous travels in Hawai‘i.
