Step back in time with me as I explore Ningyōchō, one of Tokyo’s most atmospheric neighborhoods, where Edo-period history and traditional street food still shape everyday life. Far from the busy tourist areas, Ningyōchō offers a slower rhythm, centuries-old sweet shops, quiet shrines, and comforting local flavors.

In this walk through central Tokyo, I discover historic wagashi shops, mechanical puppets, Suitengū Shrine, Amazake Yokocho, and legendary sweets that have been made the same way for generations. From ningyō-yaki and taiyaki to sukiyaki croquettes and hojicha ice cream, this is everyday Tokyo at its most authentic.

    When you eat "Wagashi" or "Anko", you get very thirsty without "Japanese tea", don't you😅 I prefer "Koshian" to "Tsubuan".😊 Thank you for sharing this fun and very historically interesting video!✨🎶☺️

    素敵な動画をありがとうございます。人形町へ行きたくなりました。たしかに人形町は地味だけど味わいのある江戸っぽい町ですね！
    小網神社もなかなか良いです。観光客が多いGWは避けて来週にでも寄ってみます。

    Great informative video about Ningyocho😊I’m originally from Tokyo, but didn’t know those long-established shops.
    I’m glad to know you like Anko (sweet red bean paste). My American husband does not.
    It seems that many foreigners except Asians don’t like Anko. I love all of Wagashi (Japanese sweets)😋
    Oh, I also love croquettes! Living in the U. S. right now, it’s disappointing that American restaurants and grocery stores don’t have croquettes☹

    Small retro feel places to explore in Tokyo that I can think of right now are Yanaka Ginza shopping street (Taito-ku) and Monzennaka-cho (Koto-ku). Have you already been there?
