  1. Few questions, out of these resorts which one would you get a season pass for? Last season i skied at Hakuba, but i dont want to deal with the crowds again I think. However, I really enjoyed the tree skiing there which makes me want to go back! I was tossing up between Hakuba, Myoko and Madarao.

Also, do you do any backcountry touring? If so, do you use your Benchetler 120's?

  2. Nice video! We were at several of these during our trip, but the best experience we had was in Tenjindaira, further north-east. Would definitely recommend if you're going back

  3. Yep Shiga Kogen sucks…. whilst high elevation the runs are only 2km long which is to short to enjoy. Need runs 4+ km to enjoy.

  4. I live and work in the area. Japanese people don't often take off work to go skiing, so everyone goes on the weekend. If you want to avoid crowds, then go on the weekday.

  5. Send more love up to northern Honshu! Zao, Appi, Nekoma, Shizu etc! I work in ski travel and 90% of clients are always asking to go to Hakuba & Nozawa (which have been heavily booked out in peak Jan/Feb dates for months alongside Shiga and Myoko)

  6. Am going to Shiga Kogen for New Years. The hotels there book out VERY early as they have many repeat Japanese customers that come at the same time every year. So hotels often just block out a portion of their rooms just for these customers.

  7. Great review to prepare for my trip next Jan!!! DEfinitely interested in North Honsu too, since that´s the area where my job will take me for a few days!

  8. is anyone going start of january to nagano? i’ll be there snowboarding alone for 2 weeks. lemme know if you wanna link up

  9. O'boy……I think I may just throw a DART at a map at this point….But you gave me a map so thank you.

  10. I was in Nozawa in early January, I thought It was you that i saw but was not 100% sure. Thanks for your vids in helping find great places to ski, from Australia.

  11. Shiga Kogen is a massive ski valley with multiple interconnected zones. You're right, there is no real town to speak of, you stay in a hotel in one of your zones and usually have to opt for the meal package with the hotel as there's nothing around to choose from. It's very quiet from that perspective so good for people who aren't into night life but otherwise it's restrictive that way. Certainly is beautiful, though. Lots to choose from based on your ability but it's a massive area to traverse from one end to the other so you have to plan ahead and decide where you want to be for the day. Hotels book out way ahead of time because it's a prime destination for Japanese who often return year after year. There was definitely less English speaking around, but we managed things well enough nonetheless. Translation apps do help!
