Hello.
Today, I visited Guryong Village, located in Gangnam.
The village stands in stark contrast to the surrounding apartment complexes and is an area scheduled for redevelopment in the near future.
Before you moved away, does the place where you grew up still exist?
The place where I was born and raised has already disappeared due to redevelopment and now survives only in photographs.
The familiar atmosphere and scenery I once knew are slowly fading from my memory.
To some, this is a precious home.
To others, it is a place they long to escape—filled with both affection and resentment.
But with time, it becomes a place no one can ever truly return to, no matter how much they reach for it.
I believe archiving such landscapes is not a bad thing.
That is why I wanted to capture this place in 360 degrees.
To minimize the sense of intrusion and to protect the residents’ privacy as much as possible, I chose to visit at night.
Compared to the daytime footage filmed by other creators, the nighttime scenery reveals a much stronger contrast.
I tried to capture as many areas as possible while walking around late at night,
but once inside, the darkness and maze-like layout caused me to lose my way repeatedly.
In the end, I was only able to record about half of Guryong Village.
Gangnam is said to be the last area of Seoul to have been developed.
Among its land, this place is considered the final rural area yet to undergo development.
Over time, people who arrived here with their own stories and circumstances built homes, forming a uniquely dense and distinctive residential structure.
