These Amazing Oysters in Japan Are…

If you love fresh oysters, you need to visit Matoya Oyster Terrace in Mie! 🦪 This restaurant sits right on Matoya Bay, where you can watch oysters being freshly shucked and prepared on the spot!

We got them deep-fried, which is our favorite way to enjoy oysters—crispy, juicy, and packed with briny goodness! 😍 But if you love them raw, they’ve got that too! Not into oysters? No problem—they also serve fried shrimp! 🍤

This was hands down one of the best oyster experiences we’ve had in Japan! Are you team raw or fried? Let us know! 👇

  1. In Kentucky, primarily the Louisville area, rolled oysters are popular. They are fried but it's usually 2 or 3, in a batter containing some cornmeal, similar to a hush puppy, not quite as highly seasoned though.

  2. I love raw oysters but doctor told me I can longer eat them. But he did say cooked oysters are fine.

  3. I never loved oysters in Europe but I learned to love them in Japan 🫶 I had the best grilled oysters so far in a small harbor area in Itoshima 😊

  4. Love fresh oysters! But I live smack dab in the middle of the US in Colorado. Not much good seafood here.

  5. Do you know Jean Paul Rampal, and mostly his story about oysters? The difference between persimmon, and oyster is apparently subtle as far as the Japanese language goes. 😉
