Germany is famous for having the best Christmas markets, so we put it to the test in Cologne.
With just one night, we explored four incredible Christmas markets packed with food, lights, and holiday magic. Each market had its own theme, decorations, and atmosphere, which made hopping between them so much fun! This was also our first time getting into the hype of Christmas mugs, and we finally understood why everyone collects them. I lived in Bonn (aka the "Beethoven Town", among other qualifiers) in my youth , it's half-an-hour away by train from Cologne, and the student i.d. used to also cover all Bonn+most.of.Cologne's public transport , so, i visited Köln 's Weihnachtsmarkt a whole lot of times, you better believe it 🎄❕
But it has improved quite a bit since the mid-00's : For instance, i can't recall any ice rink around the equestrian monument, nor was there such a whimsical Engelmarkt Angel Market, with their tree-hanging stars ✨ ❕
Thus, i thank you to have cut such a relatively long vid on this city, as it allowed me to be vicariously there again. And, the vibe was even more complete when you met your friends/colleagues youtubers .
BTW, the potato waffles with apple 🍏 mousse* are not that hard to pronounce : Kartoffel 🥔Puffer with/mit Apfelmus — But the German market visitors who talked to your friend might have been giving them a challenge (a bit mean-spirited, if you ask me) and called them REIBEKUCHEN [ rah-i-buh coo rrrrrr en ] !!
(" Kartoffelpuffer mit Apfelmus ", in case you'd like to find the recipe, which i recommend as it is fairly easy to make from scratch at home ! )

24:15 Fun fact: In some German-sspaking regions the 'Kartoffel' (potato) is also called 'Erdapfel' (earth apple). Maybe this dish was the reason for this?
Another delicious combination would be Kartoffelpuffer mit 'Räucherlachs' (smoked salmon), topped with 'Kräuterquark' (curd with fine cut herbs and maybe cream or yoghurt added to the mix).
For me, living about 50 kilometers away from Cologne, this is a very interesting video! Yes, the Christmas markets in Cologne are exceptionally beautiful—but unfortunately also exceptionally expensive, as you have noticed yourselves. Mulled wine for 10 euros? Outside of Cologne, you can get it for less than half that price…
You made one mistake in the editing: the Eurostar Plus does not travel along the Rhine route south of Cologne, but the scene at 0:44 is from the Rhine Valley about 100 kilometers south of Cologne, towards Koblenz. You may have traveled there via Strasbourg…
But still: a great film!

By the way – if you don't want to keep (all of) the Glühwein cups, you can return them once you finished drinking and get a full refund on it! So don't add the €3 to the Glühwein price! Normal Glühwein is from €3.50 to €4.50, that can go up to some €6,50 if you go for "Winzerwein" – Prädikatswein from a German winery! Tastes even better! : )
