Naoshima, world-famous as an “island of art,” has seen a large number of foreign tourists since 2023. However, I remember that in 2018, when I worked at the museum on Naoshima, there were more tourists crowding in than there are today. I hope to see more foreign visitors to Naoshima next year.

The underground tunnels of Hiroshi Sugimoto’s art house project “Go’o Shrine” allow morning sunlight to penetrate the tunnels during sunrise hours in fall and winter. You can see the sunrise in the video “Naoshima Autumn 2022 https://youtu.be/shuwHUMAiec” that I produced last year, and in the fall of 2023, I filmed the same sunrise in the tunnels as in that video.

In this video, I wanted to capture the autumn leaves that colored the entire island of Naoshima, but while I was shooting videos of other islands, it seems that most of the autumn leaves on Naoshima have already fallen. So I cannot show you many beautiful images, but I hope you will enjoy them.😊
