Uber Boat Ride: The Best Way To See London!
In This Video, I’m Taking London’s Most Underrated Transport—The Uber Boat—On A
Journey Right Across The City. From Putney In The West To Barking In The East,
We’ll Sail Straight Through The Heart Of London. Along The Way We’ll Glide Past Iconic Landmarks
Like Big Ben, The London Eye And Tower Bridge. Discover What It’s Really Like To
Experience The City From The Water. Welcome To Putney In South West London. We Begin This Video On Putney
Bridge Overlooking The River Thames. Today We’ll Be Riding On Uber Boats From Here
In Putney To Barking Riverside In East London. This Is One Of The Longest River
Routes You Can Take In London. We’ll Be Following This Very Stretch
Of Water All The Way Across London. The Current Putney Bridge Was Built In
1886 And Replaced The Old Wooden Bridge. The Bridge Is Made Of Stone,
Concrete & Cornish Granite. It Is A Total Length Of 210 Meters. Our First Boat Of The Day
Will Depart From Putney Pier. Putney Pier Is The Western
Terminus Of The Uber Boat Network. There Is A Ticket Machine And A Contactless
Payment Reader At The Entrance To The Pier. Putney Pier Is Around A 10 Minute Walk
From Putney Bridge Underground Station. It Is Also A 10 Minute Walk
From Putney Railway Station. The Interior Of The Boats Are Very Nice. The Leather Seats Give The Boats
A Real Premium Feel In My Opinion. There Is A Selection Of Table And Airline
Style Seats Available To Choose From. I Chose A Table Seat By The Window So I Could
Get Some Nice Riverside Views Of The Thames. I Decided To Grab A Cup Of
Coffee From The Onboard Bar. It Cost Me £3.40. A Boat Leaves Putney Pier
Every 30 Minutes Roughly. Most Services Run Through Central London And
Terminate At Canary Wharf Or North Greenwich. To Get To Barking Riverside I Will
Need To Make A Change At Greenwich. If You Are Enjoying This Video So Far Then
Do Consider Subscribing To The Channel. It Won’t Cost You A Penny And It Will Help
YouTube Push My Videos Out To More People. The First Landmark We Pass
Is Battersea Power Station. The Power Station Closed In 1983 Due To Changing
Energy Needs And Rising Maintenance Costs. At It’s Peak, It Supplied A Significant
Amount Of London’s Electricity. The Power Station Has Recently Been
Converted Into A Designer Shopping Centre. Next Up On The Left, We Pass By
The Iconic Houses Of Parliament. Which Is Home To The Famous
Clock Tower Known As Big Ben. In The Distance You Can Also See
Westminster Bridge And The London Eye. The London Eye Is A Large Observation Wheel. It Offers 360-Degree Views Of The City. It Was Originally Meant To
Be A Temporary Structure. It Was Built To Celebrate The New Millennium
And Scheduled To Stand For Just Five Years. But It Became So Popular That It Was
Kept As A Permanent Tourist Attraction. Uber Boat Was Formerly Called Thames Clippers. In 2020, The Service Was Rebranded As ‘Uber Boat
By Thames Clippers’ After A Partnership With Uber. You Can Now Buy Tickets Through The
Uber App Which Is Very Convenient. The Next Landmark We Pass
Is The Famous Tower Bridge. Tower Bridge Might Look Old But It’s
Still A Fully Working Drawbridge. The Drawbridge Panels In The Middle Can Lift
Up So That Tall Ships Can Pass Underneath. Tower Bridge Opened In 1894, After
Eight Full Years Of Construction. The Bridge Is 244 Meters Long And 65 Meters High. There’s A Small Outdoor Seating
Area At The Back Of The Uber Boats. Which Is Perfect For Enjoying The
Views And Getting Some Fresh Air. Our Next Stop Is At Canary Wharf. Canary Wharf Used To Be One Of
The Busiest Docks In The World. Today, It’s A Major Business District
Packed With Skyscrapers And Global Banks. More Than 100,000 People Work
In Canary Wharf Every Day. Some People Will Use The Uber Boats As
Part Of Their Daily Commute To Work. On Our Approach Into Greenwich,
We Pass By A Viking Cruise Ship. The Viking Saturn Cruise
Ship First Launched In 2023. The Ship Can Accommodate Up To 930 Guests. The Ship Is 227 Meters Long And 28 Meters Wide. Should I Make A Cruise Video In The Future? Let Me Know In The Comments Which Route
And Ship You’d Like To See Me Try Out. I Got Off The Boat At Greenwich Pier To
Change Onto A Boat To Barking Riverside. Journey Time From Putney To
Greenwich Is 1 Hour And 30 Minutes. Journey Time From Greenwich To Barking
Riverside Is Around 30 Minutes. A Total Journey Time Of Around 2 Hours To
Get From One Side Of London To The Other. On The Next Boat I Headed Straight
For The Outdoor Seating Area. I Feel Like It Would Be Better
If The Seats Faced The Other Way. Then You Could Look Out At The River
Views Instead Of Looking At The Wall. As We Depart From Greenwich,
We Pass A City Cruises Boat. City Cruises Runs Services
Between Greenwich And Westminster. In The Distance You Can Spot
The Old Royal Naval College. The Next Landmark That We Pass Is The O2 Arena. The O2 Is One Of The World’s
Largest Entertainment Venues. The O2 Can Hold Up To 20,000 People. Our Next Stop Is At The Town Of Woolwich. Here We Pass The Woolwich Ferry Which Takes
You From Woolwich Over To North Woolwich. Should I Make A Video About
This Ferry In The Future? Let Me Know In The Comments Below. I Paid £22.10 For A Day Ticket. This Allowed Me To Hop On And Off As
Many Boats As I Wanted For The Full Day. I Booked My Ticket Through
The Thames Clippers App. As We Pull Into Barking Riverside,
There Isn’t Really Much To See. The Main Thing That You Can See Is The
Footbridge That Takes You Down To The Pier. Barking Riverside Gets An Hourly Service With More Services During The
Morning And Evening Peak Times. Barking Riverside Is The Eastern
Terminus Of The Uber Boat Network. Barking Riverside Is A Large
Housing Development In East London. It Is Being Built On The Land Which Was
Formerly Occupied By Barking Power Station. Overall I Highly Recommend Using The Uber Boats. I Think It’s One Of The Best Ways To See London. What Do You Think Of The Uber Boats?
