Hastings Walking Tour | See The Best Of This Historic Town
In This Video, I’m Exploring The
Seaside Town Of Hastings In East Sussex. A Place Full Of History, Character
And Classic British Charm. I’ll Take You Along The Beach, The Seafront, The
Town Centre, And Through The Beautiful Old Town. Welcome To Hastings. We Begin Our Journey At Hastings Railway
Station, The Main Gateway Into Town. Outside The Station You’ll
Find The Bus Interchange. Which Is Super Handy For Getting Around
Hastings Or Heading Down To The Seafront. I Arrived Here By Train From
The Nearby Town Of Ashford. If You Haven’t Seen That Video Yet, There’s
A Link To It In The Description Below. From The Station, It’s Only A Short
Five Minute Walk Into The Town Centre. Robertson Street Is One Of The Main
Shopping Streets Here In Hastings. It’s Known For Its Lovely Victorian Architecture. Queen’s Road Is Located Right
In The Centre Of Hastings. It’s Another Main Shopping Street,
Continuing On From Robertson Street. This Area Has Been The Town’s Main Shopping
And Meeting Point Since The Late 1800’s. Priory Meadow Is The Main
Shopping Centre Here In Hastings. Some Of The Shops Are Indoors, While
Other Shops Open Out Into Queen’s Square. Giving It A Good Mix Of
Indoor And Outdoor Shopping. Here You’ll Find Plenty Of The Big High
Street Brands Like Primark And Poundland. Looking The Other Way Across Queen’s Square, You Can See More Of The Outdoor
Section Of Priory Meadow. Just Ahead Is The Main Entrance To The
Indoor Part Of The Shopping Centre, And Next To It Is Hastings Town Hall. If You Are Enjoying This Video So Far Then
Do Consider Subscribing To The Channel. It Is Totally Free To Do So. Leaving The Modern Town Centre Behind,
We Head Into Hastings Old Town. The Old Town Is Full Of Narrow
Streets With Old Buildings. It’s A Real Contrast To Priory Meadow, With
Lots Of History Packed Into Every Corner. George Street Is The Main Shopping
Street In Hastings Old Town. It’s Full Of Independent Shops,
Cafés And Traditional Pubs. Every Corner Has Something Unique To Offer,
From Handmade Crafts To Seaside Souvenirs. Just Outside The Hastings Fishermen’s Museum, You’ll Find Some Of The Town’s
Most Recognisable Landmarks. One Of Those Landmarks Being These Tall
Black Wooden Huts Known As Net Shops. The Net Shops Were Built By Local Fishermen
To Store Their Nets And Equipment In. The Narrow, Towering Structures Made
The Most Of The Limited Beach Space. Rock-A-Nore Beach Is One Of Hastings’ Most Iconic
Spots, Famous For Having Shingles Instead Of Sand. The Cliffs Behind The Beach Are
Part Of The Fairlight Cliffs. The Cliffs Form A Stunning Backdrop That
Has Been Shaped Over Thousands Of Years. The Fairlight Cliffs Are
Part Of The Hastings Cliffs. They Are Made Up Of Layers Of Sandstone And Clay. The Sea And Weather Have Carved Them
Into The Steep Slopes You See Today, Constantly Reshaping The Coastline. Further Along The Seafront You’ll
Find The Hastings Miniature Railway. The Railway Opened In 1948 And Still Remains A
Popular Tourist Attraction To The Present Day. Hastings Has Been A Working
Fishing Port For Centuries. On The Main Beach You’ll Find Lots Of Old
Wooden Boats And Piles Of Fishing Nets. This Equipment Is Still Used
By Local Fishermen Today, Keeping The Town’s Maritime Tradition Alive. Hastings Is One Of The Few Towns Where You Can Still See Fishing Boats On The
Beach Rather Than In A Harbour. Can You Name Another Town Where You
Can See Fishing Boats On The Beach? Let Me Know In The Comments Below. Hastings Has Been A Seaside
Destination For Over 200 Years. Hastings Is Famous For The Battle Of Hastings. The Battle Took Place Nearby In The Year 1066. These Blue And White Beach Huts Are A
Familiar Sight Along The Hastings Seafront. In The Distance You Can Just Make Out Hastings
Pier Which Is Another Well-Known Landmark. Hastings Pier Was First Opened In 1872 And
It Has Been Rebuilt Several Times Since. The Most Recent Rebuild Came
After A Major Fire In 2010. This Is Bottle Alley, A Sheltered Walkway
That Runs Beneath The Main Seafront. It Was Built In The 1930s And Named After The
Coloured Glass Which Is Set Into The Walls. Overall, I Highly Recommend Visiting Hastings. The Town Has A Good Selection Of Shops
And A Nice Seafront To Have A Walk Along. Have You Ever Visited Hastings Before? Do

Great video, you should make a video on Brighton next
I visited Hastings for a few hours back in 2015…wow, 10 years ago! I always wanted to come back and stay for a few days. This video is certainly a good reminder that I should do so 😊 Bexhill is also a nice seaside town.

We tend to spend the summer in Brighton (slow travellers). We only visited Hastings once many years ago but would like to stay there again. Try Brighton or Exmouth next.
