【광화문맛집】일본인이 한국에 돌아오자마자 제일 먼저 찾은 한 그릇『고독한 순댓국』(KOR/JPN sub)

South Korea・Seoul Subway Here. I’ve arrived~ Right next to me are Gwanghwamun Plaza and the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts. Ooh~ It’s cold. Seoul already has a winter atmosphere. …Where is the place I need to go today… This way! To put it simply, this area is the center of Seoul. To a restaurant in such a place, oozing with that classic, old-school feel, “Gochu-Wasabi” is going today! Today’s restaurant is right in front of the subway station. From Exit 1, just go straight. Huh? An alleyway with a good vibe. Ah! I know this restaurant. It’s famous for its Kimchi-jjigae and rolled omelet. This is also a classic spot~ Ah~ Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. Drooling. But today’s menu is not that. Someday on this channel, I should come back to film it, but… What catches my eye is this text. “Daebangeo Festival” The festival is already underway. I also had Daebangeo not long ago~ There’s no Daebangeo in the tank, but they are swimming vigorously. Here, the shellfish are a continuous tempting attack. But I, who returned from Japan to Korea, have something else I need to eat first! Here! Quickly, I want to eat it~ Steam wafting up. Please give me a piping hot bowl~ Today’s restaurant is “Gwanghwamun Deodeok Sundae”. The entrance is really hard to find. It’s not on the 2nd floor, it’s in the basement. Enter through the entrance that exudes an old-school feel, there’s one door. Go in there. This is the menu here. From the top, of course, Sundaetguk. Sundae only. Dwaejigukbap. Naejangtang. And a single order of Yachaesundae. There are two types: a full plate and a half plate. Also, for the evening menu, there’s assorted sundae or Suyuk, Gopchang-bokkeum, etc. Its crying sound seems like it will ring in my ears any second. Then, let’s order right away. Excuse me. Can I order? One Sundaetguk, please, and one assorted sundae. And one bottle of Jinro, please. The owner is quiet but you can feel the kindness. After lunch service ends, there’s a break until 5. I’m the very first customer! The restaurant’s atmosphere is retro and nostalgic. …Speaking of which, there’s a ton of something stuck on the wall? Take a look. There are various things stuck, and sometimes important things are written too. Today’s order: Assorted sundae. Preparations start after finishing the lunch rush. The soup bowl is hot, so both the customers and staff join forces, “Careful, be careful.” I make this face too. And here it comes~ This thing that’s been ringing in my ears since earlier, spin spin. guru twirl~ What you need to be careful of isn’t the soup bowl, it’s this thing~ roll~ing. Because it’s Sundaetguk, you know? Without this guy, it can’t even start. It’s gotten cold outside, but even in winter, I can’t resist this cold guy. Today’s first glass. This coldness travels through my body. In the back alley, the shadow of early winter gently flows and passes by. After tidying up the path the Sundaetguk passed through, the prepared basic side dishes are: Cubed radish kimchi, onion, chives, and chili peppers, with ssamjang. The bare minimum of side dishes is provided, but among them, first, two pieces of cubed radish kimchi. If this isn’t good, the Sundaetguk is a lost cause. A well-balanced taste. So I move right away. In this nostalgic atmosphere, I have completely turned into an “ajae”. My arm tilts. Huh? Wait a minute…. What is this? Not just the walls, but the ceiling is also covered with a bunch of something! These are movie posters? There’s even a poster for a movie I was in. If I look, I think there might be more. In this somewhat mysterious atmosphere, from over there, steam is rising. The soup bowl addict appears! (Sundaetguk) A tempting bowl made by boiling pork bones for a long time into a broth, adding sundae, head meat, offal, etc., and bubbling away in an earthenware pot. My absolute favorite food, the first thing I think of when I come to Korea. Rice comes out together too. This varies according to preference, but today I’ll save it for later. A temporary goodbye. Now, let’s inspect the inside of the earthenware pot. In the milky white broth, you can see sundae and head meat. The aroma rising with the steam envelops my body. Mmm… This is also for later. For now, like this, I pick up a piece of sundae. A picture tells it better than words. This is hot, you know? So, more than usual, blow, blow~ It’s long, so long! And confirm with just the lips. Got it. One bite. The suitcase of taste buds clicks open and starts unpacking. I’m back~ The sundae here is a bit different. As written on the wall, rather than having glass noodles or blood sausage casing, it’s packed with vegetables. It says they chose nutrition~ The texture is definitely chewy and soft, but also has a crunch to it. A refreshing texture. Nice. This! Now, of course, next is this broth, right? It looks like a rich white color, but with one sip, you feel that refreshing taste again. A sigh mixed with admiration is deep, and the taste is refreshing and clean. Hmm. This guy that was waiting. Perilla seed powder. In my opinion, it’s a seasoning you can’t leave out of Sundaetguk. I scoop a full spoon of this guy. Perilla seed powder first snow forecast. It keeps piling up. I like putting a lot of this powder. Just sprinkling this makes the Sundaetguk look like a “reliable man”. I just giggle. Holding the wish that I too want to become closer to a reliable man, I drink the broth. Yeah! The pinnacle of savory richness and smoothness. Along with the meat too. Caution with the meat! Even if it has become a reliable-looking face, hot is hot. But this much I can say: Beyond the heat, tenderness awaits. Hmm, that’s cheating~ For you, a gift. A slightly early Merry Christmas. Next, one piece of sundae. Before putting it in my mouth, I ring Jingle Bells with the frog-shaped thing. My socks are here! As if to say that, I gulp down the sundae. It can’t not match, you know, this. And then this combination, right? Without even a gap, the cubed radish kimchi too. Putting this in perfectly completes the flow. …Whoa. …Darn it… I forgot to add the chives. Proof that my excitement is rising and I’m going wild. It’s still warm, so no problem~ Even the commentary is becoming like an “ajae gag”, in the atmosphere of the restaurant. Gulp again. Adding chives changes the taste again. This is the best! Just as I thought that, another menu item arrived! (Assorted Sundae) The famous Yachaesundae contains everything from pork head meat, liver, to offal, like a “summit meeting” of pigs! Served with seasoned onion and chives on the side, enjoying a texture in a completely different world from the soup dish!! The plate shows sundae, head meat, and lots of offal, but what I wanted to do first was eat it together with this seasoned onion and chives! Before I even realize it, my mouth moves. The meat has no gamey smell, and the crunchiness of the vegetables is added to it. Of course, my hand reaches for the sundae too. This guy gets dipped in salted shrimp paste. Of course, this alone won’t do~ You have to meet the sundae of a sundae restaurant with proper etiquette. This sound becomes a fanfare, and with the signal, I send it down my throat in one go. One bite, gulp. A different taste from the sundae inside the soup dish. The satisfaction possible because it’s a single order. Along with the sundae, the side dish that comes with it. This side dish is really the point. At the point where everything is ready, my hands gain speed. Put in some soup rice, pick up some onion, put it in ssamjang. Then my hand heads back to the earthenware pot. Someone said it… that Sundaetguk is a drink… It was definitely me who said that, but if you look at this flowing hand movement, it’s not that much of a lie that it’s a drink. It gets proven. A richly savory, highly perfected drink! The soup bowl addict nods deeply. Inside this assorted sundae, there are several types of offal, a delight for the tongue. Perhaps because they are well-prepared, there’s really no gamey smell. So I get carried away. Put the side dish on the meat, and meat on top of that again. This is the legendary sundae trilogy. What decorates the opening of such a story is the crying sound of that guy. For some reason or another, I move the bottle. Finding reasons to empty the glass is proof of being an “ajae”. And the trilogy! The acidity that comes out between the two pieces of meat is the best! Come to think of it, they gave me this too, right? To put chili pepper in the Sundaetguk? Take one bite gulp and safety check. Oh!? Safety is already secured~ The broth here is savory but not excessive. So it’s the type of broth where you can adjust the taste yourself. The epitome of DIY. Gulp. But cautious me only put in half. I take that to my mouth too. With the slight spiciness I start to feel refreshed. Again, on the sundae, I pile on the side dish and take off together. When the savory taste of the sundae combines with the side dish, it’s like they were always a pair. Before I know it, they are flying in the same direction. And from here, I too start running down the runway. The person doing this in this restaurant And from here, I start running down the runway. I must be the only person in this restaurant doing something like this. Take-off! Boarding, above the clouds. Gwanghwamun Bartender… I saw it before, but one more time! Look. As expected, pure white clouds below. I splash and drop them into the earthenware pot. This sound is the final round’s bell. Honestly, the broth is so delicious I’m eating too much of it. It feels a bit lacking, but still, this is how you finish a Sundaeguk! The savory taste of the broth soaks into each and every grain of rice. The kimchi radish I can’t give up at this moment. The Sundaeguk mixed with rice and the kimchi radish I’m eating is the most delicious. That harmony makes my spoon unstoppable. Eventually, the last part is this, right? I’ve been wanting to express this well since earlier, fretting over it, but no words come out at all, so I surrender with both hands up. “When that happens, you just eat silently.” I’m adhering to the maxim I just thought of. Right! Let’s add this to the list of maxims too. When you eat something delicious, your brain reaches Einstein-level. Even the kimchi radish broth turns into a jewel in an instant. This! This is it~~ The trajectory of flavor, built up layer by layer, is now… about to explode. The Sundaeguk that looks like its cheeks are slightly flushed. Now, one hearty bite. This flavor is almost against the rules! Simultaneously rushing in: refreshment and deep flavor. Outwardly I look calm, but inside my heart is racing. This can’t be stopped. As expected, I can’t hold back. Once it gets to this point, even the bottle’s tilt won’t stop. I don’t know why, but Sundaeguk and Korean soju go so well together. There’s no more sundae in the earthenware pot now. So, using this guy, I inject more sundae. Anyway, this one plate is a bit pricey, but I highly recommend it for two or three people. At this point, there’s no use hiding it. Should I show you all the skills I possess? This is like national secret-level though… I place the kimchi radish! If this is a Korean national secret, then I, who knows it, am a spy. Even though I’m chattering pointlessly, the sight before my eyes is beautiful. Gulp. Yeah. This. This! This is it~~~ And next, new weapon reveal. The seasoned side dish that came with the combo, this one too, I place it! Actually, this seasoned side dish is also key. The new weapon has good texture too, its crispiness creates a vibrato in my brain. The remaining onion, I dip it in ssamjang and calm it down. Gradually, this moment has arrived. I lift the earthenware pot and put the remaining rice in my mouth. Accompanied by the side dish called today’s aftertaste. My face is hidden once, and when my face is visible again, this is already a clear signal. Even the greedy last piece of kimchi radish, truly cleared! Well… gradually, this guy too has reached the last-glass level. Since last night, because I was going to eat Sundaeguk today, I was looking forward to it, so the last, until the final drop. This restaurant is really perfect for eating alone. There are so many protagonists of “The Lonely Gourmet”~ In that sense, today’s last glass. For the finale, with this little bit I saved, it’s also an excellent drinking snack menu. There are things like liver, lung, badger cap, and such, and the vegetable sundae was also special. So I savor the illumination not with my eyes, but with my mouth, as a slightly early Christmas tree. Chewing away, I suddenly look beside me. Huh? What’s this? It’s stuck all over the wall, I have no idea what it is, but please stick this on for me~~ A 5-minute walk from Gwanghwamun Station, full of old-store feeling, a nostalgic Sundaeguk restaurant. It’s also a place you can lightly enter even alone, and it’s savory but has a clear broth and vegetable sundae. Ah~ I’m super satisfied! Oh! Right. Of course I know about this restaurant too. Hwamok Sundae. I think its main branch is in Yeouido, it’s so famous. Alongside today’s restaurant, in Gwanghwamun, they are said to be the top 2. I honestly… could live off just Sundaeguk. Well, that’s a bit extreme, but I like it that much. Walking on the yellow carpet, today’s food story ends here. Enjoyed my meal!
