Oguni Shrine and Daitoin Temple are exactly at the peak of their autumn foliage!
Hello, this is Ichiro! 😊 Today, I visited Daitoin Temple and Oguni Shrine in Mori Town, Shizuoka Prefecture. Tuesday, December 2, 2025 It takes about two hours from my home to Mori Town, Shizuoka Prefecture. This is my favorite driving route because there’s almost no traffic jams.✌️ Mount Fuji😊 Shin-Fuji IC Arrived at Daitoin Temple.✌️ Western Shizuoka Prefecture was once known as Enshu. And Mori Town is known as Enshu’s Little Kyoto. ✌️ Even if you haven’t heard of Daitoin Temple, you’ve surely heard of “Enshu Ishimatsu Mori.” Ishimatsu Mori was a gambler active during the late Edo period, serving as a subordinate of Jirocho Shimizu. Ishimatsu Mori’s grave is on the right. There’s a superstition that possessing a fragment of Ishimatsu Mori’s grave will improve your gambling skills, and so the grave has been stolen and carved up. This sturdy grave is the third. It has been significantly worn down. The current fourth-generation grave was built using extremely hard stone. He is still beloved today as a gambler who helped the weak and defeated the strong. The vermilion bridge and autumn leaves are picturesque✌️ Daitoin is a renowned temple with over 3,400 branch temples nationwide. Jirocho Shimizu and Ishimatsu Mori The autumn leaves are magnificent😊 The bridge is illuminated from November 23rd to 30th. I came here two days ago, around 7 PM on November 30th, hoping to see the illuminations, but for some reason they weren’t lit up. 🤔 I did see the illuminations at Oguni Shrine next, so it wasn’t a complete waste of time… Let’s look forward to seeing the illuminations here next year. 😊 We’re almost at Oguni Shrine. All parking spaces are for Oguni Shrine. Even during the autumn foliage season, there’s no traffic jam if you drive early on a weekday. However, on weekends, be prepared for two- to three-hour traffic jams. Oguni Shrine is a 10-minute drive from Daitoin Temple. Oguni Shrine is the oldest shrine in the Enshu region, boasting a long history of over 1,470 years. Heavy traffic jams occur during New Year’s visits and the autumn foliage season. I came to see the light-up two days ago, on Sunday, but because it was late, I was able to avoid traffic jams.✌️ The vermilion bridge is picturesque.😊 Apparently, the monkey show starts at 10:00. The enshrined deity of Oguni Shrine is the kind-hearted “Daikoku-sama,” who saved the “White Rabbit of Inaba.” The sacred tree that felled in a typhoon is enshrined here. Main Shrine They’re already preparing for their first visit of the year. Apparently, there are 1,000 maple trees along the river. There are a lot of photographers in the river. 😮 Oguni Shrine is known as one of Shizuoka Prefecture’s top “foliage viewing spots.” The photographers mentioned earlier are aiming for a shot of this vermilion bridge and the autumn leaves. I’ll try to capture that same composition later. For now, I’ll continue walking to the parking lot where I parked my car. Wow, it’s beautiful! 😃 Right now, the autumn leaves are at their peak. ✌️ I was able to film this video from the sidelines of a large group of cameramen. This is footage from two days ago. The maple trees along the river are lit up. The illuminations will be on until December 7th. This concludes this video. On the same day, we also went on a tour of the autumn leaves at the three Enshu mountains (Hattasan, Kasuisai, and Yusanji). I’ll show you what that was like in the next video. Thank you for watching this video until the end! 🙏
Today I visited Oguni Shrine and Daitoin Temple in Mori Town, Shizuoka Prefecture.
Oguni Shrine is known as one of Shizuoka Prefecture’s leading spots for viewing autumn leaves.
It was right at the peak of the autumn foliage!
The shrine is also known for its heavy traffic, but if you consider the day of the week and the time of day, you can avoid it.
I went to see the illuminated autumn leaves around 7pm on a Sunday, and there was no traffic jam.
