A trip to Okuyama, an inn with artificial hot springs in Shinjo City, Yamagata Prefecture . Please also use the chapter list in the summary section. Location: The inn is a 6-minute walk from the west exit of Shinjo Station. This is the third day of my solo trip around Tohoku. After taking a hot spring bath at Hottoyuda Station in Iwate Prefecture, I took the Kitakami Line and arrived at Shinjo Station at 4:27 p.m. I booked this inn for less than 10,000 yen for one night and two meals, but it also included an artificial hot spring. Check-in This is a small, family-run inn. Please let the reception know your preferred time for dinner or breakfast. The baths are said to be available from 4:30pm to 11pm. I thought about going in right away, but decided to go in after dinner. Before I got to Shinjo Room , my GoPro broke, so I took a video with my digital camera. I’m sorry that there is a lot of blurring and shaking, making it hard to see. The inn also has Japanese-style rooms, but since I was alone, I booked a single Western-style room. When you enter the room, there is a washbasin immediately to the left. There is a towel hanger, a mini table, and a single bed. The Japanese-style room has the feel of a Japanese inn. The Japanese-style room was nice, but the single Western-style room was cheaper, so I decided to stay here. There is a desk, TV, etc. There are no free outlets at the desk, but there are outlets on the bed shelf. From the window, I could see the pond in the courtyard. The room does not have a bath, but there is a toilet. A towel and a yukata. There is no problem with wearing a yukata and leaving the room. Some people wore yukata in the baths, cafeteria, manga corner, etc. I was planning to read a manga at night, but ended up falling asleep. Dinner will be served in the dining room on the first floor. The food is already prepared in time for the meal. Later, the soup will be brought to you. Serve as much rice as you like. Homemade Yamagata dinner is ready. This inn also has a restaurant attached, and there are large and small banquet halls within the building, so I think it is an inn where you can enjoy Kaiseki cuisine. I think they serve the guests a reasonable amount of food that is commensurate with the price of their stay, and all of them are very delicious and good value considering the price of the inn. Nanban pickled fish I think this was chicken liver. By the way, everything is delicious. Hoya. I don’t really like it, but it was delicious. Delicious rice from Yamagata. Salt whale soup is a local dish from Yamagata inland, and is a stamina dish to survive the hot summer. Salted whale is a preserved food made by salting whale skin and blubber. Whales have long been an important source of protein in inland areas where the summer heat is intense. Ingredients are salt whale, potatoes, and seasonal vegetables. I want to eat this in Tokyo too! Grilled fish is fatty salmon. Spicy fried chicken wings The guests on this day were three solo female travelers and several male businessmen. Two large fried chicken wings that go well with this beer are a great dish for men. However, the elderly woman remained. Thank you for the meal. The artificial hot spring men’s bath and women’s bath are located a little apart. I think a chair in front of the entrance would be a good place to meet up after taking a bath. There is a washing machine near the women’s bath, so I think you can use it. The approach to the bath and the retro fittings create a very nice atmosphere. The artificial hot spring was a bath made of Katsura ore. The bathtub is made from Katsura ore, a stone mined in Gifu Prefecture that is rich in minerals. There were 3 female guests, but I didn’t meet anyone and was able to relax by myself. When I got into the sleeping bath position, I really felt like I was going to fall asleep. In the morning, I take a bath from 6:30 to 9:00. The next day, I went to the morning bath. Taking a bath in the bright morning sun also feels good. breakfast. A healthy and delicious breakfast was ready. Apparently I was the last one to eat. Tofu dashi topped with Yamagata dashi made with pickled green vegetables is seasoned with chopped summer vegetables and aromatic vegetables. Boiled vegetables such as green beans, konnyaku, shiitake mushrooms, and bamboo shoots. I think the grilled fish was mackerel. Miso soup and hot spring egg with radish and fried tofu . This is the first time I’ve seen such tableware specifically for hot spring eggs. Meat and potatoes. Is it Yonezawa beef? Well, I guess. Yamagata has delicious rice and cherries when it comes to Yamagata. Dessert was cherries. Thank you for the meal. Check out of the inn and head to Shinjo Station. thank you for helping me. We will not be spending the night at Naruko Onsen, but will be visiting the hot springs for a day and enjoying the Waseda Sashiki-yu and Taki-no-yu.
