【北鎌倉】紅葉と山カフェで秋を楽しむ休日
Hello everyone. I’m in Kita-Kamakura this time. I first stopped by this coffee shop right in front of the station, which caught my eye! It opens early, so I recommend stopping by before a stroll. While I expected it would be crowded, being so close to the station, it turns out to be a hidden gem. The shop only has table seating. The white interior has a retro feel. The sunlight streaming in through the large windows illuminates the shop, making it a pleasant morning. I ordered a coffee float. I also love iced floats on cold days. The refreshing iced coffee and sweet ice cream make a perfect combination. The calming atmosphere might have left me wanting to linger, but I have to go see the autumn leaves! It was such a wonderful time! I’ll definitely come again. The leaves are turning a beautiful red! We’re greeted by bright red maple leaves. This is the main gate. Engakuji Temple is famous for the autumn leaves at this gate. It looks like it’ll be a while before they turn completely red. The temple grounds are quite large, and there’s plenty to see. What you see now is what’s known as the Sanmon (mountain gate). If you go straight from the Sanmon Gate, you’ll come across the Buddhist temple hall, where Engakuji Temple’s principal image is enshrined. It seems like it’ll take a while to appreciate the autumn foliage around the hall. Inside, the ceiling features a white dragon painted on it, which is quite impressive. The leaves also have a gradation of color in places. This is the “Senbutsujo” (Buddhist Relic Hall), where you can enjoy the combination of autumn foliage and thatched roofs. It’s a delight to spot the bright red leaves! There’s also a beautifully landscaped garden. We continue deeper into the temple grounds. This is the Shariden (Reliquary Hall). It’s designated a National Treasure as a representative of the style introduced from China during the Kamakura period. Mornings are quiet and peaceful, making for a pleasant experience. I expect the best time to see the autumn foliage at Engakuji Temple is around late November! The contrast between the blue sky and the red is beautiful. We head to our next destination. Meigetsuin Temple is famous for its hydrangeas, so much so that it ‘s also known as the “Hydrangea Temple.” We came here because the autumn foliage is also a highlight. There was a large, bright red maple tree. Its size makes it stand out no matter where you are, and it’s truly impressive. This is the approach to the temple gate, famous for its hydrangeas. In spring, the weeping cherry blossoms are said to be the most magnificent in Kamakura. This is the “Window of Enlightenment,” a symbol of Meigetsuin Temple. The maple leaves visible through the round window will soon turn color. You can also take a look around the back of the round window. The turtles and rabbits scattered here and there are adorable. They sparkle when the wind blows. So beautiful! We head to our next destination, strolling slowly through the town of Kita-Kamakura. We head toward the mountain. There are many uphill slopes and stairs, but we’ll do our best! The greenery is gradually increasing. Almost there. We’ve reached the top of the mountain. The air is clean and refreshing. I came here to see the ginkgo trees at this torii gate, but it will be a while before they turn completely color! You can walk to Kuzuharaoka Shrine from Kamakura Station. However, there are many slopes and stairs, so I recommend wearing comfortable shoes! It is also famous as a shrine for matchmaking. It’s a personal favorite of mine because it’s not too crowded and easy to visit. This is the main shrine. I heard there’s an observation deck from which you can see Mt. Fuji, so I decided to go. It’s an exciting route . Unfortunately, it’s cloudy today and I can’t see it. I’ll try again another time! I plan to head toward Kamakura Station through nearby Genjiyama Park. The maple trees in the park are in beautiful color. The ginkgo trees are in top condition! The contrast between the blue sky and the yellow is simply beautiful. Bright yellow! I’ll stop by a cafe on the way back to the station. This hidden cafe, hidden away behind Zeniarai Benzaiten Ugafuku Shrine, is surprisingly little-known. It’s only open Thursdays and Saturdays, so it’s hard to find, but somehow it’s appealing. The interior has a retro atmosphere. It’s quiet and cozy, nestled deep in the mountains. The female owner is very friendly, and her words of encouragement, “Please take your time,” are very welcome. The antique goods are lovely, and I couldn’t help but look around the store. The chairs are lovely, too. I’d like to have one at home… I ordered matcha and pumpkin mousse. They even included cheesecake as a complimentary gift, and I was touched by their generous hospitality. The pumpkin mousse was a generous serving, filling the bowl. I started with the matcha. It’s warm and soothing after all that walking. The pumpkin mousse has a gentle flavor with the natural sweetness of pumpkin. It’s so delicious. It’s a flavor you never get tired of, and you’ll want to eat it forever. I also had the complimentary cheesecake. Just because it’s complimentary doesn’t mean they cut corners. It has a moist texture and just the right amount of sweetness. It’s easy to come in alone, and the atmosphere is so cozy that you’ll end up staying for a long time. All of this for just 300 yen. I wonder if there is any other restaurant in Kamakura that offers such conscientious service… It ‘s a delicious and warm place. I’ll definitely come again! Thank you for the meal. I’m enjoying autumn in Kamakura! I slowly make my way home.
