Tiny Boat vs. V8 MONSTER: Weymouth Adventure (Part 1)

Welcome back to the channel, everyone. We are out again on another adventure. We have sea weavers in the background, all ready to go in the water. We have Tommo just launching. You can just see him there. So, he’s just launching there. We have Sonia here. Ready for the adventure, aren’t you? “I am ready.” It’s very windy. “It’s very windy here.” “How’s the sun gone again, Chris?” “Yeah, where’s the sun gone?” “Yeah, we’ve never been here before.” The slipway does look quite nice. It’s well-maintained, very wide. So, we’re going to have a go at launching in there in a minute, just after Tommo. And it’s got a pontoon as well. I don’t know if you can see that somewhere. Oh no, over there. Got a pontoon over there. But yeah, we’ve got the boat ready. We have then got to travel over to Weymouth, where all the other people are, and we have got a marina, finger berth at the marina. So, Sonia, are you ready to launch? “I think so. I got to get my flip-flops on, haven’t I? Cold water.” Yeah, well, hopefully we can sort of get away with it, but it does look very shallow, doesn’t it? “Yeah, I was just looking at that.” “That trailer is, maybe we put our long arm on.” “That is quite shallow.” We’ll have a think about that. “What do you think, Tommo?” Yeah, we’ll watch Tommo and then we’ll have a think about it. “It’s quite shallow, isn’t it, Tommo?” “Do you think it drops off a bit more?” “Hopefully.” “Looks like there’s an end to it a bit further out.” “Yeah, I can see.” “Or is that just where they stopped cleaning it?” “Possibly.” “Yes, yeah, we’ll find out in a minute.” “We’re about to go in.” “So, we’ll find out if there’s enough water.” So, Tommo likes to launch with the boat quite a lot out of the water. There we go. He’s almost in. “There’s hardly any water there at all, but he’s he’s managing it.” “You don’t need much to float.” So, good job. Right, now we’re going to have a go at that, but we’re going to go in a bit deeper. We will go in as far as we can, with our wheels just touching the water, I think, because I’m not as confident at doing that. The way that Tommo launches, I’m not as confident at doing that. So, I’m going to try and get ours a little bit deeper into the water. We have got a shorter nose on ours, so it’s going to be a little bit tricky, but we will give it a go. “Oh, okay.” “Yeah.” “Wow.” We’re not jammed on that front roller again, are we? “Okay.” “Good stuff.” “Before you can use the slipway, you have to visit the Weymouth and Portland Sale Academy office, so you can pay your slipway fees, trailer parking fees, and harbor dues. The office is a 10-minute walk through the boatyard and around the back of the building block. Once in the building, you will find the office on the first floor. With the boats launched, it’s time to park the trailers. Again, this is a 5-minute drive to the main boatyard car park, which can be found here. This impressive slipway and spacious boatyard were built specifically for the 2012 Olympics, and now we get to use them. Right, we’ve launched the boat, and we are driving back to park the trailer in the parking compound, trailer compound. Sonia is on the boat already. So, I am just following Tommo to the compound, which I believe is just, you can just see those buildings in the distance over there. It’s just around there, I think. So, we’re going to head there now.” “Okay, just around here, and following Tommo in there. It’s the compound, the main car park. Okay, trailers are all set up, all secure. So, it’s a big old car park, this one. Lots of space. Tommo is all sorted there, and we’re going to head back to the boat now. Okay, we are back at the slipway from the car park, but it’s a lovely slipway, really impressed by it. Super chilled, super relaxed, and loads of space. Really nice. And it’s got a pontoon as well. All right. Fuel 100%. “Fuel 100%.” Got the radio on. Engine’s going. 2.4 meters of water underneath us on the pontoon. Sonia’s ready to do all the ropes, so we’ll just wait for Tommo. Right, we’re out on the water, just coming out of Portland Harbor. We’ve then got to go out of, there’s some sea defenses over there, you can just about see them. We’re going to head out of there. Got a speed limit marker of six knots within the harbor, and we’re heading towards the harbor entrance, the sea defenses. You can see the two sea walls either side. So, we don’t know what’s actually going on this afternoon. There are some other guys on the rally, on this Weymouth rally. We’re going to, I think Tommo might be trying to contact them to find out where they are. If they’re out for the day, we might go and join them. If they’re not out, then we’ll probably go to our berth in the Way Marina and check that out, find out our spot, and maybe do some tidying up and sorting out, because we got a lot to sort out. “Yeah, they’re hydrofoils.” “Hydrofoil surfboards.” “How cool is that?” “Very dark blue, isn’t it?” “Almost at the mouth now.” So, we are getting pushed along. There’s the waves are pushing from behind, so every so often you feel like you’re you’re surfing again, because it’s only a six-knot speed limit. So, we’re sort of surfing some of the waves, but it’s gradually getting more choppy, so it’ll be interesting to see what it looks like out there. “That’s really nice.” “Look at that.” “So, Weymouth is back over there, I believe.” “Hang on a minute.” “It seems quite actually calmer out here than it did in the” “We’re not getting wet.” “It’s better in this wake, isn’t it?” “That’s probably the safari.” “Yeah, I thought it might be.” So, we’ve made it to Weymouth. We’re just on the map. That’s the coordinates. That line there is where they suggest you should come in. So, we’re going to follow that in. So, over there, as you can see over there, is North Fort. We’ve had, we’ve walked around there, haven’t we? “It’s quite interesting, yeah.” Weymouth is so pretty as a harbor. And you can imagine, when it’s nice and sunny, we’re talking about England here, but when it is nice and sunny, that beach will be lovely. We’re into the mouth of Weymouth Harbor now. Got, I don’t know if these are hire rowboats or what, but we’ve also got the pirate ship, which is always here. Seems to always be here. I don’t know if it was last time. “It was last time, wasn’t it?” “That was what, last year.” “Yeah, the end of last year.” “We know.” “Yeah.” “That looks like a different one, though.” “It does.” “It’s a shorter one, isn’t it?” “That’s a small, stumpy one.” “That looks great, doesn’t it?” “Look at that guy out there.” “What’s he doing up there?” “What’s he doing up there?” But yeah, there’s all those nice restaurants. Now you’ve got all the lovely cafes and restaurants, which are around. We’ll be visiting some of those. “Sonia, we went on a boat trip, didn’t we?” “Didn’t we?” “We did.” “Yeah, I think that’s a little bit further up.” “You got the ribs, there’s a rib actually just in front of Tommo there, and they do the the safaris where you can go to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, which we went on that, didn’t we, a couple of years ago? “It was quite good.” “It was fun.” “Yeah, it was fun.” “It was quite choppy, but can you believe it, son?” “We are now here in our own boat.” “That’s what I’m just” “There’s the harbor master.” “The harbor master’s boat.” “Yeah.” “Okay.” “Oh, it’s up.” “The bridge is up.” “Is it up?” “Yeah.” “I don’t have to wait.” “I can, I’m small, I can go underneath it.” “No, I think Tom’s down.” “You got to wait for it to be up.” “Oh, really?” “Yeah.” “Oh, that there.” “Yeah.” “Communications are going to be on channel 6.” Now, we’ve just, Thomas just had a chat to the guys. It looks like we’re going to go and find our berth, which is in the marina. Now, there’s a, there’s a harbor-run marina or council-run marina, and then there’s another marina behind it, which is the one we are at. “Boat Folk,” I think it’s called. “Boat Folk Marina.” “You can go under.” So, we are going to find that. We’re going to follow Tom over and try and find our berth. “That’s it.” “That’s the coastal explorers.” “Do you remember how much it was?” “It was about £35 per person or something like that.” “That was about a year ago, so might be a little bit more now.” “But it was a good fun day out if you’re coming to Weymouth.” “Big old bridge.” “That’s the road that we drove down past the marina.” “So, remember how we get here, son.” “So, if we have to come down here ourselves, then, yeah, I’ll remember, I’m good at navigation.” “Yeah.” “So, anyway, I think this is the first marina.” “And then the one that we’re looking for has got, I think it had green markers on the piles, didn’t it?” “Can’t remember.” “But it’s very sheltered here now, isn’t it?” “Really?” “Like, the wind that we had a lot of wind at the Portland marine and that would have been awful to stay there.” “But this one, it’s very sheltered by Weymouth Town and the the marina is sort of sunken with all the buildings around it.” “So, it’s very protected.” “Here we go.” “Look, I can just see a green sign ahead, which shows the” “Get the” “Oh, Sonia’s getting the fenders out.” “Good job.” “Can you get yours out?” “I don’t know which side.” “I don’t know which side yet.” Right, so we should be around here. We were on F for Freddy, and I think we were 20. “I can’t remember actually, I haven’t looked at the email.” “What?” “I think we were 21.” “So, so we’re at odds over there.” “So, 36 and 37.” “Oh, no.” “It’s odds and evens, isn’t it?” “So, yeah, it’s just got off a bit going across there.” “Where the wind’s?” “The wind’s behind us, so this could be challenging.” Well, we are all set up. We’ve got the cabin all nice and comfortable now. And we put the Bimini up, just in case it rains. I don’t think it will. I think it’s meant to be overcast all day. But we are off. It’s now, “What’s the time now, Sonia?” “It is, I don’t know.” “20 to 2.” “20 to 2.” “So, we’re going to go and get some lunch quickly, and then head over and see the other guys.” “So, let’s go and see what sandwiches we can get.” Okay, we’ve just had something to eat at the Key Bar kitchen, which was really nice. And now we’re coming up to where all the guys are moored up. They’re rafting up. Let’s just have a look at them. There they are. All squeezed into one boat down there. So, we’ll go and go and say hello. “Hello.” “Hello.” “Hello.” “Who are you?” “There you go.” “That’s now going to be a task.” “That’s yesterday in L.” “We never bring any” “Missed it again.” “They missed it.” “The news bridge is on the” “Oh, I’ve got” “Missed it.” “There you go, Chris.” “Yesterday.” “We spent the rest of the afternoon chatting and laughing with everyone at the mini-meets, all against the perfectly peaceful backdrop of Weymouth Harbor. As the evening approached, the sun made its first appearance of the day, which was the perfect excuse for us to go exploring around the bay.” “Where’s the sun, Sonia?” “Where’s the sun?” “The sun is out over there.” “We have finally got some sunshine.” It is now 6:00 in the evening. We’ve chilled out with the rally guys on their rafted boats. “We had a lovely afternoon, didn’t we?” “Yeah.” “So now all we’ve got to do is just get through this bridge, which has got red lights on it at the moment.” “Chris is busy navigating.” “Yeah, it’s a bit tricky.” “It’s trying to stay fairly stationary, but the wind’s blowing the background, and yeah, boat wants to go wherever it wants to go.” But we are coming out of the marina now. Way Marina, and we’re going to head out. I don’t know, we’re meeting the rally guys out there somewhere, and we’re going to go for a quick burn around and speed around and just take in some of the scenery. And “There we go.” So, I didn’t quite understand what that “No.” was. “We had a great afternoon on Brian’s boat, didn’t we?” “We did.” “Yeah, it’s really nice, it’s a lovely boat.” “Beautiful.” “And Gareth’s as well.” “They’re both the same, but yeah, really nice boats.” “Right, I’ll let you concentrate.” “Yeah, I got a little tender to deal with here.” “He’s going all over the place.” “I feel like we’re forgetting something.” “I don’t think we’re forgetting anything, because it’s just a rush.” “I think it’s just because it’s a rush.” “It’s always a rush, you know.” “But we’re on, we’re on time-ish.” “6 minutes over.” “I think the ETA was to meet up at 6:00.” “It’s now 6 minutes past.” “I think he said 10 to 6, 10.” “But then they got a bit keen and wanted to go quicker.” “Yeah, that’s right.” “And we’d only just got back to the boat.” “It’s a long walk, wasn’t it?” “It’s quite a long walk.” “And we were chatting to Tommo for a while.” “Yeah.” “But the lovely town of” “Really nice.” “It’s lovely to see it from from the water, isn’t it?” “We’ve always only ever been a tourist or when we go on our car, caravan, and camping holidays, we’re walking around on the harbor sides, not in the middle.” “But it’s very pretty, isn’t it?” “It’s a very pretty harbor.” “Gorgeous.” “Yeah.” “So busy along the high street.” “All the restaurants.” “All the restaurants are absolutely packed.” “We’ve got to have some dinner a bit later on, so hopefully we’ll be able to get find somewhere.” “That’s where they all from.” “That’s where we were chilling out.” “That’s it.” “That’s where it was.” “Not much space, but they’re all rafted behind that boat, weren’t they?” “Yeah.” “Oh, on the end of the boat.” “Yeah.” “So, they’ve gone out.” “They’re keen.” “Yeah.” “Got Tommo dead ahead.” “Catching him up slowly.” “Heat.” “Heat.” So, look, we got these new hooks for the fenders. So, hopefully it won’t be bouncing around anymore. “Hopefully those hooks will work.” “Okay.” “Just something bought off Amazon.” “They look all right, don’t they?” “They look like they’ll hold.” “They look good.” “Yeah, because they just fall off all the time.” “You try and wedge them.” “Sonia, look.” “Yes.” “How flat it is.” “Wow.” “We’ll see when we go out.” “Yeah, this is lovely.” “Beautiful.” “Smooth as a road, isn’t it?” “Really?” “Just keep looking each side.” “Okay.” “Yeah.” “There’s the guys out there.” “Oh.” “Oh.” “That was what” “was it?” “How was that then?” “That was good.” “Look, we got all the the rally guys out today.” “Got Gareth over here, we got Brian over there, Anthony over there, and Tommo over there.” “You’re about to hear Gareth’s boat, powered by a custom fully forged 6.2 L V8, this engine is so thirsty it can make your eyes water.” “It can empty a 275 liter fuel tank in less than an hour when he’s at full throttle.” “Let’s let’s hear it rip, Gareth.” “Oh my god.” “That is a beast.” “That’s a beast of a machine.” “Oh my god.” “Look at them.” “Oh, they’re having fun, aren’t they?” “That is awesome.” “Wow.” “Look at this thing.” “Oh my god.” “That is scary.” “That’s a machine.” “That is awesome.” “After a quick chat, it was decided to go and explore the bay’s east coastline.” “Oh my god.” “Say 6 m.” “Look at that, though.” “I can’t see anything.” “The coastline.” “He’s doing his bit.” “Wow.” “Is he putting us in a washing machine?” “This got a bit more rough out here.” “Yeah, because don’t forget they’re a bit bigger.” “I got soap then.” “Got a massive wave come over.” “It’s a bit choppy out here, isn’t it?” “No, he feels it in this little boat.” “Well, I think we should go and find Kraken and create lots more wash again for him.” “I’ve already split his chin.” “Well, at least it’s usually his wallet, so at least it’s something different.” “Oh my god.” “Flying now.” “My defenders are flying.” “I’ll rethink that one.” “It’s much calmer, like, just in this sort of area, isn’t it?” “It is.” “You get out there, it definitely was a bit more choppy.” “Where’s your mic?” “Is that what implying?” “It’s beautiful on the water, isn’t it?” “It is lovely.” “Look at it.” “I love it when the sun’s setting and we’re out.” “It’s the best time to be boating, really.” “I think, just capturing the last of the sun.” “It’s just great, isn’t it?” “Look at it.” “No, not go ahead.” “What was that?” “Martin and I just having a discussion.” “He’s realized that in Gaz’s room today and yesterday, he’s used more than Martin did coming over in his boat.” “It doesn’t surprise me.” “Yeah, let’s do it.” “I’ll follow you.” “Oh my god.” “Oh, I can’t.” “Oh.” “How wet are we?” “Oh my goodness.” “That was good fun, though.” “I must admit.” “I couldn’t see nothing.” “I still can’t.” “My eyes have” “Forgot so much.” “Oh my god.” “Tommo is stopping.” “I need to wipe my eyes.” “They’re so bad.” “Yeah, big roll in here.” “These huge rolling waves, the biggest we’ve ever seen, became the perfect ramps for the larger boats to have some fun.” “Oh my god.” “He’s rolling.” “Even the pig boat.” “Look at this.” “Look at it.” “Oh my god.” “Oh my god.” “Hey.” “After our fun with the big rollers, we decided to head back to the harbor for some much-needed food. Before we could make it to the marina’s protection, however, we had one last situation to deal with. A cushion had gone overboard. At least I got to practice my man-overboard maneuvers.” “We then caught back up with the rest of them and made our way to the harbor.” “Next time, in the final part of our Weymouth adventure, we have a delicious meal at the local curry house and get a unique perspective of the fireworks display. We get up close and personal with Durdle Door’s Arch before rafting up at Lulworth Cove for some lunch. After that, we tackle the most brutal conditions we’ve ever faced with our bodies taking a pounding. Finally, we have one last fight with our boat, which refuses to go back on the trailer without a struggle. Join us for the next part of this adventure, and don’t forget to subscribe.”

  1. Have you ever launched at Portland Boatyard? What did you think of it? Hope you enjoyed the view of the mini-meet we attended,

  2. Excellent video. I can’t believe how far Tomo was out if the water on launch. I was just waiting for the leg to hit the concrete. Mind you he has done it a few times. I prefer to get the boat further in. Mind you my Landy will raise up on the air suspension

  3. Think you guys need a bigger boat😁 wow that looks rough out there and hats off to you both for doing this sort of thing and more importantly enjoying it. Not for us being honest, maybe 20 years ago😔 but fantastic to watch and makes a great video. Can’t wait for part 2 and well done 👍
