[TRANSAMAZÔNICA] ISSO ACONTECEU no primeiro dia de TERRA na BR-230 [TÉNÉRÉ 1988] – S12EP27
Look at that big truck! ” Wow !” “See ya! ” That’s dangerous. Look at my front brake caliper! “Lost the screw!” Hey everyone, Thiago here, starting another video for the channel, straight from Altamira. We’re at the Xingu Hotel, facing the Xingu River… It’ll appear in the video. Say good morning… Good morning… It’s Xinguzão. Xinguzão, old warhorse. Good morning. Good morning, Le Cappel. Good morning. The motorcycles are stored down here. We’ll show you later. So, did you like the tacacá? Delicious. Recommendation: everyone who comes here has to try the tacacá. And it’s not sweet at all. It’s the original tacacá. Now, let’s have breakfast and hit the road. Lê already took his motorcycle out, and now mine. We performed a miracle in parking, in managing to fit both motorcycles in there. So, today’s plan is to leave Altamira and go to Rurópolis. Total mileage: 340 km. From here to Medicilândia, where there’s asphalt, it’s 80 km. Let’s see if the trunk is securely fastened here. The trunk uses this system here to stay in place. Want to see? It has these pulleys with this locknut here. They stay very secure here. It doesn’t wobble, it doesn’t do anything. And this bag, come here. Oh, this photo is going to be good, huh? Calm down, calm down. Oil topped up. We know that this oil has to be measured after the engine is hot, but from the tests we did, it doesn’t change anything. And here in front is the beach. The chief is there, sitting on the bench. The beach is here. Yesterday we took a bath there. Le Cappel is carrying some of my things to take the excess weight off my motorcycle, so I can do the off-road a little more easily. I wonder if the motorcycle is starting easily, the first start? Here, look… cold exhaust. The tractors… started. Cool? So, now here’s the thing… “See ya” … let’s leave the coast here. We’re in Altamira. What a crazy trip, “man”. Nice to meet you, dude. The pleasure is mine. I’m a follower of yours. Thanks, thank you, good morning. Good morning. “See ya”. You got a Teneré, huh? Yeah. And this is the coast. Now, what are we going to do? We’re going to go back to the same point… on BR 230, to… be able to do the whole thing. If we continued here, to the center, we’d end up on the Trans-Amazonian Highway, but we’re going to go back about 4 km, to be able to continue from the same point where we left, to get here to this coast. Starting this beautiful day, thanking God for the opportunity to travel and see the beauties of this old, war-torn world. May He bless us so that we can overcome the challenges of the day. Today… yesterday, actually, a chief arrived with us, along with some… some members from the village, who are going to hold some regional championships here. And they came… to assess the structure of the place. I’ll also start this day by talking about the channel’s supporters: If you need insurance for your motorcycle, new insurance, renewal, talk to Eduardo from BNP Seguros. He insured this motorcycle here, a 1988 model. Talk to him. Vital Card travel insurance, the only provider I found that doesn’t require additional coverage for motorcycle trips. And now I have a discount coupon… I got lost … and now I have a discount coupon. If you go to the link in the description to get your insurance, in the last step, you can enter the coupon – thinoronha. Tactical products – Wolf. Go to their website, you’re sure to find a product you like. They are very useful on my motorcycle trips. I use a backpack, several backpacks, I have a fanny pack, a pocketknife, a thermos, and there’s also my discount coupon there – thinoronha. And now, we’re going to continue to Medicilândia, which is the municipality where the asphalt ends and the dirt road begins, on the Trans-Amazonian Highway. It’s now… 7:40. We had coffee, got the motorcycles ready, topped up the oil. We’re going to refuel here. The idea today is to ride… radar… 340 km. Remember that this speedometer isn’t calibrated, so it’s showing… less than the actual speed. Here’s the Altamira River. And… it dawned with a lot of clouds, can you believe it? The day we’re going to enter the dirt road section… but everything’s fine. And here, we’re back on the Trans-Amazonian Highway. The motorcycle has 9,205 km. Fill up here, gasoline, $6.49. Good morning. Fill up with regular gasoline. Just open it here. Fill it up, please. The other time I crossed the Trans-Amazonian Highway, when I was on the F800, the day I left Altamira was the day I knew the dirt road would start. That day, I went from Altamira to Santarém, actually to Alter do Chão, crossing that Transuruará road. When I get to the entrance of it, I’ll show you. But imagine a day when I was tense because I knew the asphalt was going to end, but I didn’t know where. And every little stretch of dirt road along the way, I thought that’s where the asphalt ended, but it didn’t. And I also didn’t know what it was like, you know? I had only seen it in videos, so it was very… very tense. In the end, it was a calm day, the road was good, and I managed to complete that day’s journey. In Medicilândia, we’ll pass through there. Medicilândia is a place that produces a lot of cocoa, and I was told, I don’t know, I haven’t confirmed it, that this cocoa is one of the best in Brazil and that it’s even exported to Switzerland. And welcome to Brasil Novo, another municipality here, on the banks of the BR 230. The weather is pleasant this morning. Bridge over the Arrependido River. The repentant dog returns… Just a little stretch here… of dirt. And also remember, folks, if you want to help the channel by becoming a member, as a reward I make all the videos available in advance for channel members. Cocoa Capital. Today is Monday, busy area. If there was chocolate, huh, to try, do you think we could find some? Cacauway… Yeah, I think… better move on. Chocolate factory. Do you think they have chocolate there? Rurópolis, let’s see. Rurópolis, 255. Let’s see if they have chocolate there? Amazonian chocolate. Good morning. Good morning. Can I leave the motorcycle here? Thank you. Let’s feed the ant. Excuse me. Hey, everyone. Oh, and the factory is here… Yes. That’s great. They have 100% cocoa here. It’s chocolate, right? 100% cocoa. That’s… And is there the fruit? I can’t see it. Oh, it’s here, look how much there is here. Cocoa, guys. Look at the size of it. I have a knife here. But I don’t think it will work. Look… you can keep it. Cut cocoa. Look here. That’s it. It stays like this. And this is what chocolate is made from, is it from this? Yes. Exactly. Can I throw it on the ground? No, don’t throw it. Oh, sorry. Thank goodness I held on before. This seed here, we ferment it. The one you mentioned, you asked if it was brown, huh? Yes. That one over there. Did I eat that? So I ate that? You did. It’s good. But it’s fermented, with brown sugar, as I said, I explained to you. Yes… but it’s inside and it’s very good. Yes, that’s it. We ferment it because we work with it… Can you eat it? You can… But you can’t… just suck on it, you don’t bite it, because it… you’ll taste it, it’ll be kind of bitter in your mouth. Stop eating that, man. No, this is delicious, man. Ester, thank you very much for the explanations. Oh, thank you. We really liked the place here. And here’s a tip, whoever is passing through Medicilândia, on the Trans-Amazonian Highway, visit… Cacauway. Bye. Bye. Visit done, chocolate bought. We continued. Ester said the asphalt is almost over, just a few kilometers left. Our next stop is Uruará, 106 km away, and Rurópolis, 255 km . And here the paved road ends. It’s not even 1 km from the cocoa factory. I mean, unless there’s another stretch ahead, but here… it seems like… it’s the end. Now watch out for potholes. Let’s see here, the bridge over the Seiko River . There are already quite a few açaí plantations along the way. It’s starting to appear… Folks, the dirt road section has begun. Lots of car traffic, lots of dust. GPS off, because we preferred to turn it off to avoid electrical problems, overloading the system. Here we are… Lots of ups and downs in this stretch. Pickup truck, going really fast. Look at the steep hill. The cargo box is strong and sturdy. And the chain, is it taut? This is the Trans-Amazonian Highway, folks. Old warhorse Brazil. It’s exciting to be in a place like this… in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, the big trees, all covered in dust, powder, whatever you want to call it, I know it as dust. In the middle of the Amazon rainforest, for now here in the state of Pará, on a 1988 Teneré 600. Priceless. Good dirt road. Look at the truck. “Oh my!” “Talk to you later!” That’s dangerous. Smoke appeared, pull over… and stay right to the side, because sometimes there’s a car trying to overtake, from there to here. Beautiful day, thank God. The cloudiness is behind us. There’s already a bridge here. And here, is the boundary between the municipalities of Medicilândia and Uruará. Protected land. This is the Amazon. Le Cappel is back there. We must be about 60, 70 km from Uruará. We stop there to refuel. Everything alright? Everything alright. Great. I don’t know what’s going on here. Whoa…. It’s going to scrape the truck bed. Man, I’m hearing a noise, I think the brake caliper is… it’s loose. Look… Wow… …it lost its bolt. What madness. It died, it wouldn’t start. What? It died in the truck, it wouldn’t start. Look at my front brake caliper. “It lost its bolt.” Oh, folks, what happened here was the following. I noticed it was making a noise, and… the screw down here, it’s gone… it’s gone. Now we’re going to put on some Hellerman tape… a thicker one, so we can see if… it holds. A… a strip here. Hellerman. Remember, it’s not this one here, it’s just to prevent the caliper from doing that, from coming out. The screw, the caliper itself, is… it’s fastened. Another surprise: Cracked disc. Well, what did we plan to do? Remove the screw from this brake caliper here and put it on the front caliper. And I’ll only use the front brake, because riding with this cracked disc is dangerous, it could lock the wheel and cause an accident. And during the ride we’ll see if this rear brake disc here is compatible with another motorcycle. Look… how cracked it is here… Well, front brake screw in place. Then we removed the rear caliper, it’s tied here. Which is to… to prevent anything from coming loose here and causing an accident. Lê is checking the brakes on his bike too. Well, now extra caution is needed, right? Because I only have a front brake. The hard part is getting used to… not pressing the rear brake. I’ve had similar situations with the… with the F800, and I always pressed it. But let’s go. To solve the situation, we need the bolt that fell off and we need a disc compatible with this one here, the rear one on my bike, which is from the XT600. It’s 11:12 now. And there are a lot of hills on this road, in this part of the road. I keep imagining this wet, the soap that doesn’t stick. I don’t know if you can see it on the camera. This is the Bacuri River… The slope of the hill. It’s just a trickle of water. But for now, the road is generally good. Of course, there are a lot of… potholes, the bike vibrates quite a bit, But… it’s the same pattern as what I experienced with the 800. The 800, in fact, absorbs much more impact. You can ride at a higher speed. But now, with this comparison to the 600, I have to be very cautious because of the brakes. Look at the bus, how strange. I don’t know what country it’s from. Many of you may be wondering: “Ah, but is it worth taking a trip with a motorcycle like this, which has so many problems?” Again, folks, this is the realization of a dream, a desire I have, to take this trip. Just showing you the river here, Rio Água Fria. And… we set out knowing that problems could happen. It’s not a motorcycle I’ll be riding forever. It’s what we’re doing here, fulfilling a dream. Well, so we’re arriving here in Uruará. I’ll stop at the gas station over there. There’s asphalt here now. Remember, the last time I came here, the gas station where I wondered whether or not to continue on the Transuruará road, which leads to Santarém. Let’s go in here. See? I held the… I held the rear brake. I already forgot. Let’s see how much the gas is… the gasoline. Good morning, how are you? $7.62. Is this regular? Okay. Fill it up, let me open the cap here, wait… Look, everyone. The marks from the first kilometers are already here on my shirt. Oops. Is it good? Good, you, good? And you? All good. And we did the calculation here, the motorcycle is doing 21 km/L. The disc is still here, with the cracked part here, everyone. Everyone, we stopped here at the gas station, there’s a steakhouse. The plate was R$ 37, it’s by weight. And the motorcycles are over there. Well, we had lunch. The motorcycles are here, waiting for our departure. Le Cappel, what did you think of those first few kilometers of the Trans-Amazonian Highway? Remember I said it was crazy? It is crazy. Confirmed? No… confirmed. It’s something you have to be… the expression is this: your will has to be greater than the difficulties, because there are many difficulties along the way, with the route, with the motorcycle, with everything. And your will has to be greater than that. If your will is greater than that, greater than the difficulties, you will succeed. Otherwise, you’ll go back, because it’s not for everyone. This is crazy. This is dry, imagine this… This is dry, we’re in summer, and we just heard from a guy here, having lunch with us, that if we had come in winter, it would have been much, much, much worse. So now, the goal is for us to maybe get a brake disc here in Uruará for my motorcycle. If we don’t get one, we’ll continue like this, to Rurópolis, and we’ll decide. That’s it. If we can get it here, we’ll swap it; if not, we’ll keep going. Okay, let’s go to the workshop, see if the guy has the disc, otherwise we’ll continue on to… “Bag…” Holding the cell phone in hand, to see the way. Late… Hey guys, the little tear that made here… Can’t you see it? Which motorcycle’s disc is it from? The XT… it’s the same as the 125… XTZ 125. The only difference is that this one is 4 mm, this one is 3 mm. 3.5. 3.5. Tighten it crosswise, please?! Then we’ll put a little more in. People think that here in Uruará, on the Trans-Amazonian Highway, there aren’t any workshops. It’s incredibly easy here… Just a little. Do you service BMW here? BMW, everything… multi-brand motorcycles, we service them… Guys, everything’s ready. Cleoney served us super well here. “See you later,” guys. Let’s go. So you see, he did the job, he didn’t want to charge anything, he only wanted to charge for the disc. Guys, really good people, sometimes it’s what we think, that a place like this, which is isolated, doesn’t have resources, but sometimes it has more resources than a big city. And most importantly, the goodwill. Back here to the Trans-Amazonian Highway, and continue to Rurópolis. Now it’s 2:15 (14:15). And we’re back here on the Trans-Amazonian Highway again. Now turn left here. We still have 150 km ahead of us. This is the gas station where I filled up again. Over there is the Transuruará highway. And this is the first time I’m going through this stretch. Since I went up to Santarém last time, I didn’t travel this route from Uruará to Rurópolis. And now everything is normal again, the brakes are working. My theory is that this happened to the brake disc because the swingarm on my bike is from an XT600Z, which has a disc brake. And this disc brake, when the suspension works, in certain situations, it touches the exhaust. The brake caliper touches the exhaust, and I think that on one of those occasions, I must have been holding the brake, and it hit and caused that crack. For me, that’s one of the explanations for this happening, that the 4mm disc wasn’t worn… For this to happen, it must have been some kind of side impact. Look at this road, how beautiful. It winds through the Amazon rainforest. Now, even in the rain, this must be like soap, a smooth, shiny mud… Man… Look… every now and then, a Brazil nut tree appears. A beautiful thing from God. There’s a gentleman coming down… Ah, great… “Talk to you later” Tutuí River. There’s a truck up ahead, it’s going… fast, practically at our speed, and there’s a terrible cloud of dust. I think the ideal thing here is… look, a pothole… stop and drink some water, and then continue, because it’s “complicated” here. Let’s see if I can find some shade here. Which is also difficult. The asphalt started here. Here we must be… we must be arriving in Placas. The municipal boundary sign Uruará – Placas appeared . We arrived here in Placas. Let’s have a Coke here. It won’t fall, right, motorcycle? We stopped here to drink some water. And the neutral is there… and the neutral is lit. 90 km to go. Let’s continue… Here… I’ll pass by here, just so you can see the monument: “You were born by the roadside, land of a growing people… growing and…” I couldn’t read the end. And the asphalt ends again, at least a little bit. There’s another one over there, but it will end soon too. We’re 90 km from Rurópolis. Let’s see what river this is… Piaçossa River. The kids are playing here. No, they’re fishing. The challenges of overtaking. You can’t see anything. What? You go slowly, everything shakes. Let’s see if I can pass the car here. I managed to pass. Muiraquitã River, Muiraquitã. It’s small. Lots of potholes… It feels like the motorcycle is going to fall apart. Look there… It ‘s already a little after 4 pm. Big forest… Big hill here. You have to accelerate to get momentum. You have to be careful with the potholes. And we’re arriving in Rurópolis, approximately 4 km away. Today was a great day. Look at that hill… Le Cappel, right there ahead. Lots of hills, lots of ups and downs. There was a stretch of road that was really bad. What’s that? Is it a bird? Vulture… carrion. The speed bump. First day done… We stopped here to take a picture. Marcos met up with us, he follows the channel, he’s going to direct us to a hotel here. He even said that the name of this river isn’t what’s on the sign, that they put it wrong. And now it’s… 5:20 (17:20). 340 km traveled. $7 for gasoline. Hotel UAI… Guys, so we arrived here at Hotel UAI, in Rurópolis. Look at the state of the place, there’s dirt everywhere. The motorcycles are dirty, Le Cappel is exhausted. Come here, I’m going to tell you something. I’m going to tell you two things. Is the Teneré the best motorcycle for traveling? No, there are better ones. Is it the most reliable? No, there are better ones. But today, leaving Altamira and, especially, after Uruará, Arriving here in Rurópolis, having ridden a stretch of paved road and 260 kilometers of rough dirt road in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, and hitting 100 km/h on a Teneré, man, that’s priceless. And the other thing I was going to say, which some people might think: “Ah, Thiago Noronha is just YouTube, pretty videos…” Friend, if you think like that, here it is, Brook Shields is available, you can take it, get on it and try to keep up with this guy. And then you’ll understand what real hard riding is. You’re invited, anyone who wants to is invited, take my bike and do it. Okay? Man… don’t make that kind of invitation, there are a lot of crazy people on the other side of the screen. My invitation is for those who say Thiago Noronha is just pretty videos on YouTube. If someone thinks like that, my bike is available… But… I’m sure there are many good riders who can do it easily. I’m not a pilot, so for me it’s a real challenge. And I say the same thing in terms of my knowledge of the Teneré. Because, as you saw, we left Altamira, we had to fix the front caliper on my bike, we changed the rear disc in Uruará, a place I never imagined would have that part available, and… several other adjustments that Lê made, which allowed the bikes to get here. So, now we’re going to rest a bit, eat something soon, and prepare for tomorrow, when we’ll still talk about our destination. We’re near Itaituba, but maybe we’ll pass through Fordlândia, because I had a question about some lathes there, the guy will have to explain them to me. Agreed? Agreed. So, okay, guys. If you liked it, leave a like. If you’re not subscribed, subscribe. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @thhnoronha and Le Cappel. Thanks and bye…
