Let’s take the ferry from Kyushu to Shikoku. This is the best cabin. What a comfortable short trip it was! Hello! This is Beppu Station in Kyushu.
0:00:33.506,0:00:40.751
Beppu is known as Japan’s largest onsen town. It boasts the most hot spring sources and the highest output volume in Japan. In front of the station, you can enjoy a “hand bath” instead of a foot bath. Well, I plan to take the ferry to Yawatahama in Shikoku. First, I take a local bus to Beppu Port. Yawatahama is a port town in western Shikoku. The ferry departs at 2:00 PM. Arriving at 4:45 PM. It’s a 9-minute bus ride to Beppu Port for $2.yen. The ship we’re about to board is just docking now. “Reimei Maru” This vessel was built in 2022 and has an overall length of 121 meters. The ship will dock slowly while moving backwards. A line is dropped from the stern deck to the wharf. There is only one staff member at the stern-side wharf. It’s quite heavy work. And the second line. He connects the ship’s rope to the wharf’s rope. The rope is under tremendous force. Many ferries operate between Kyushu and Shikoku. The newest ship is this “Reimei Maru.” You’re sure to enjoy a comfortable ferry trip. Now, let’s head to the ferry terminal. The Beppu–Yawatahama route operates with two ships making six round trips per day. Fill out the application form and complete the procedures at the counter. Inside the terminal, shops and restaurants are open. This shop has a particularly wide selection of dried fish from Kyushu. The ship we’re about to board does not have a restaurant. Let’s buy a bento box at the restaurant. The Sunflower is the most famous ferry departing from Beppu. This terminal is located a short distance from the Sunflower terminal. Thirty years ago, there were more ferry routes in the Seto Inland Sea. It is regrettable that more than half of those routes have been discontinued. I hope the ferry service between Beppu and Yawatahama continues for a long time. Let’s take a close look at the ship before boarding. It feels great to be able to walk freely along the wharf like this. At large ports, walking on the wharf is often restricted. I like boarding directly from the wharf via the gangway. The gangway leads to the ship’s first deck. The first deck is the vehicle deck. From there, stairs lead up to the second floor. Passenger areas are on the second and third floors. The lobby features an atrium. The design draws inspiration from Beppu’s traditional bamboo crafts. Many ferry atriums are designed to make the space appear more spacious. Beyond this point is the private cabin exclusive area. I booked the ocean view sweet cabin for $115. This is the only suite room on this ship. The room size is among the largest in domestic ferries. Remove your shoes at the entrance before entering the cabin. The living area and bedroom are separate. The bed is king-size. The large bedroom windows face the direction of travel. The sofa is large enough for about five people to sit on. We’re about to set sail, so let’s head out to the external deck. The fourth floor is a spacious rooftop. The wharf is hard to see from the external deck. Back in the cabin. Let’s watch the departure procedures from here. Since it’s not a large ship, the bow deck is quite close to the wharf. It’s now 2:00 PM. The ropes are released from the bollards, and we’re departing. The ship slowly heads out of the harbor. First, we pass between the lighthouses on the left and right. The living room windows face starboard. Autumn skies over Beppu Bay. Oita city center is on the right. The Kunisaki Peninsula can be seen in the distance on the left. This is the pet area. Now let’s take a tour of the ship. There is a shop in the lobby on the second floor. It sells mainly souvenirs from Oita and Ehime. There is no restaurant, but there are game machines. The price for unreserved seats is $30. You can freely choose your seat in the seating area or large room. All seating is unreserved, so it’s first-come, first-served. It gets extremely crowded during peak seasons like summer and New Year’s. Let’s head back to the cabin for lunch. I bought this chicken tempura bento at Beppu Port for $5. This bed is huge. That’s too much luxury for a voyage of less than three hours. On the late-night ferry, you can stay on board for two hours after arrival. This bed will be very useful on the late-night ferry. The room contains many beautiful and functional furnishings. The ship isn’t old, so the interior is spotless and sparkling clean. There’s no bathroom, just a toilet. This is the only disappointing aspect of this cabin. Let’s be careful not to fall asleep before arriving. Outside the window lies the uninhabited island of Takashima. It appears as the setting for the Japanese mystery novel “The Decagon House Murders.” This island is located off the coast of Saganoseki Cape. The ship heads into the Hoyo Strait, between Kyushu and Shikoku. A ship is approaching from ahead. That’s the ferry going from Sada Misaki in Shikoku to Saganoseki. The narrowest point between Saganoseki and Sada Misaki is just 14km. Actually, Kyushu and Shikoku are very close. Let’s head back inside the ship for now. I’m walking along the 3rd floor corridor towards the lobby. Let’s take a closer look at the shared facilities. There is a massage chair in the corner of the corridor. The restrooms are very clean. The private cabin area also includes a lounge. It is located right next to my cabin. You can see the ship sailing straight across the sea. Sada Misaki is the westernmost point of Shikoku. It’s a very long and narrow peninsula, stretching 50km. Yawatahama is located at the base of this peninsula. There are numerous wind turbines for wind power generation. A ship is visible far off to the right. That’s the ferry going from Yawatahama to Usuki in Kyushu. And then another ship. It’s the sister ship “Akebono Maru.” Behind us stretches the long Sada Misaki Peninsula Ahead lies the base of the Sada Misaki Peninsula. The townscape of Yawatahama comes into view. Yawatahama is a historic port town. It flourished through trade with Osaka. Currently, this town thrives on fishing and mikan cultivation. It is also known for its scenic beauty surrounded by sea and mountains. This short voyage felt even shorter than it actually was. Rope work proceeds steadily. This is the bow side. Well then, let’s disembark. It’s a cabin you’ll regret leaving. This cabin made the voyage feel shorter. Next time, I’d like to try this cabin on a late-night ferry. But even the large room seems quite comfortable. Boarding was to the first floor, but disembarking was from the second floor. We proceed from inside the ship to the disembarkation bridge. Walking down the long passageway to the ferry terminal. Reimei Maru, thank you for the comfortable voyage! After this, the ship will set sail again for Beppu at 5:25 PM. The ferry terminal is also new and spacious. From here, there are ferries to Beppu and Usuki. Since there are no bridges between Kyushu and Shikoku, ferries play a vital role. A cafe operates on the second floor. Exit the terminal to find the bus stop. It takes 9 minutes to Yawatahama Station, and costs $1. Arrival at Yawatahama Station. This is the westernmost railway station in Shikoku. It takes about 1 hour by limited express to Matsuyama Station. Thank you for watching! How was the ferry trip this time? See you in the next video.

What a nice comfortable ferry trip. That room is incredible. Makes you want to take the trip back and forth a couple times just to enjoy it longer. Really enjoyed the background music you added. 🐺
Very large cabin with excellent views.😊😊
I really liked this ship! Too bad it isn't longer to really take advantage of that amazing suite. It's a beautiful ferry ride nonetheless and looks like exploring the historical port city would be amazing. Thank you Capsule Japan as always for taking us along for the ride. Beautiful ship!!
Great trip. For the duration of the trip which only 2,5 hours on this suite room as a solo traveler is too short to enjoy it, even you bought round trip tickets for this room isn't enough. But it will be great if this for more than a person. I think this ferry will keep operating as long as the income source (vehicle) using ferry service between two cities, and no infrastructure like bridge or tunnel built as a ferry replacements.
Ok, after eight and a half minutes, the music makes me want to jump off a bridge, I had to mute it, the rest of the video was great.
Nice video though I was surprised such a beautiful spacious cabin would not have a bathroom! Thank you for sharing ❤
we used to watch this channel but are giving up because of the music. what was that all about???
Bgm
Love the trip , the music -not so much guy. I say with the utmost respect btw. Nice ship . I would much rather hear the wonderful travel and nature sounds if i am being truthful. I love your channel guy so i really hope you arent offended.
I like your all videos but I think the music in this video was not neccesarry. I had liked the peace and calmness that in your videos. Please do not add music to your coming videos.❤
I really like your videos, but I personally could’ve done without the repetitive music all the time❤
I agree, dont like the music. It was better without music. Please change that again.
I prefer your videos without music.
I really loved your video but the music was really repetitive and annoying.
music is okay for the first few minutes but not the whole thing if its just a looped copyright free song 🙁
I was going to make a comment about the music but I saw that there were already comments about it and that you didn't include it in the newest video. I found it too loud and repetitive so I'm glad you didn't use it in the latest one.
It took almost 3 hours trip, I think it is a little pricey
