九州ご当地グルメ➉軒☆316 SEASON5 best food in Hokkaido Japan(Subtitles:English,Thai,Korean,Chinese)

Meshitabi Season 5 : This time on Meshitabi, we’re trying all the local gourmet food in Kyushu, Part 2: 10 restaurants. We’re a middle-aged couple from Sapporo who travel around Japan, exploring and eating delicious food. We discover and share the delicious things we find all over Japan in videos. ♬ We used to run various restaurants, but that was wiped out by COVID-19 . Now, we’re hoping to use the sensibilities we’ve cultivated over the years in the food industry, from the selling side to the eating side . We hope this will be helpful in your quest for delicious food ! ♬ Let’s get started! ✨ 1. Kokura’s “Tsudaya Shokudo” This year marks our third year wintering in Kyushu. Our Kyushu trips always start with Kokura. Yes, Kokura has so many delicious things! ♬ It’s exciting to find Kokura right after arriving in Kyushu ! Right? Our first local gourmet of the year is a restaurant in Kokura known for its delicious chicken nanban ! Chicken nanban isn’t a very common dish in Hokkaido, but recently, restaurants offering it have started popping up. ♬ Yes , I didn’t really understand chicken nanban … until recently. Yes, yes, I thought fried chicken with tartar sauce was proper Nanban… Chicken Nanban! Huh? Nanban refers to the Portuguese who came to Japan during the Sengoku period. Chicken Nanban , the original Nanbanzuke, is made with sweet vinegar and born from Nanban culture . Apparently, fried chicken is dipped in sweet vinegar, and tartar sauce is an adaptation. Oh, really? But are n’t there a lot of restaurants in Kyushu that serve tartar sauce? Tsudaya Shokudo also uses the tartar sauce . This Chicken Nanban was delicious, even the fried chicken itself. ♬ The unique texture is addictive! It’s hard to describe, but what is it about crispy fried chicken? It has a chewy texture… and a fizzy texture? Like Ultraman? Not a sizzle! It’s chewy! It has the texture of a rebaked baguette or a pizza. I thought, ” This is chicken nanban that you can only get here …” ♬ It gave the impression of being a dish properly prepared by a skilled chef ! Wow… I want to try it! There are quite a lot of chicken nanban that seem to be made by the owner of a set meal restaurant ! That’s right… Kokochi ‘s is a refined a la carte dish, and I love it! There are quite a few famous chicken nanban restaurants on the east coast of Kyushu , but they’re heavy on garlic and quite junky… I see… For now, this is my favorite ! ♬ It comes with a generous vegetable salad, red miso soup, and grated yam soup, so you can really feel the restaurant’s commitment to originality! Gratuitous yam soup? They say the grated yam is diluted with dashi … It’s a bit unusual, isn’t it? You can pour it over rice or drink it as is! Apparently, but… I’m not really a fan of grated yam to begin with… even though I do like yam, right? ななにに・・・ English: I ‘m the type who doesn’t like to swallow the yam, so I drank it all in one go‼ No, I really enjoyed it! I’m currently heading south to Kyushu again this year , but I’d love for you to stop by♬ Again‼ The fried horse mackerel looks delicious too♬ Oh my‼ Well, let’s just stay together and eat♬ 2 Nagasaki “Sushi Wakatakemaru” Next up is a conveyor belt sushi restaurant in Nagasaki‼ This is more than just local gourmet, it’s local conveyor belt sushi‼ It ‘s a conveyor belt sushi restaurant recommended by my friend Riisa, a model from Nagasaki , who says it’s cheap but has great ingredients ♬ fufu, aren’t we friends? Naka Riisa‼ Oh? This is a conveyor belt sushi restaurant that originated in Nagasaki, but… I wonder if they ‘re actually particular about fully made-to-order sushi and are particular about the quality of the ingredients, mainly local fresh fish, delivered directly from the source⁇ So, it’s cheap, but the sushi is incredibly good!! In terms of price, it’s a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant with a farm-style feel, but… well, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. I’ve gotten used to Kyushu’s sweet soy sauce, and Meshitabeesu! The first time I ate sushi in Kyushu, it was in Nagasaki… I couldn’t help but stand up! Oh, it’s sweet! I was shocked! But at this restaurant, they’ll even serve you a non-sweet soy sauce if you ask! Wow! For those of you who don’t like sweet soy sauce, just pick up a takeout dashi soy sauce pack from the prepared foods section of a supermarket in Hokkaido and you’ll have no problem! The balance between price and quality of the sushi here is just right! I’ve eaten conveyor-belt sushi all over Japan, and I think this one has the best value for money in the country ! Sweet shrimp 130 yen, sea urchin 270 yen . Hmm, those prices seem like they were 10 years ago! No, maybe 20 years ago? That’s true… I didn’t try the crab, though! There are certainly many cheap crab dishes, and if this conveyor belt sushi restaurant was in my neighborhood, I’d probably come here at least once a week ! ♬ It ‘s definitely a must-try! It seems to be loved by both tourists and locals . ♬ I’ll definitely stop by here every time I come to Nagasaki! I haven’t really found anything delicious in Nagasaki yet, so if anyone knows, please let me know! Thank you <(_ _)> 3 Kumamoto “Dekopon” Next up is Dekopon Roadside Station! ♬ This is also a must-visit spot when you come to Kyushu ! Yes, Dekopon is a citrus fruit that represents Kumamoto, and with an excellent balance of sweet and sour, it’s delicious just as it is, but it also makes a great soft serve ice cream . It’s so, so, so delicious ! The first time I had it… it was three years ago~♬ I want to relive that heart-pounding feeling♡♪ You don’t have to sing it every time (lol) Eh? That’s what I want to hear, right? NO ! The perfect balance of just the right amount of sourness and natural sweetness is amazing♪ A taste you won’t find anywhere else. I’ve tried all kinds of soft serve ice cream all over Japan, but this one is hands down the best!? That’s right… Yes , it has a soft texture that tastes like real fruit , and I think it’s worth making the effort to eat . For Meshitabees, this is an absolute must-have dessert if you come to Kyushu♬ It’s the second of Waku Waku Waku!! Doesn’t that only make sense in Hokkaido? Wait? Isn’t it on a nationwide network? No!! 4 Oita “Delicious Nakayoshi” And speaking of Oita, it’s Toriten!! Today, I’m having a chicken set meal at Delicious Nakayoshi ♬ Isn’t that right? Toriten is n’t a very familiar dish in Hokkaido? It’s been becoming more common recently, but it ‘s still delicious~ Toriten!! Hey, Nakayoshi-san, this is a long-established restaurant founded in 1971. When we arrived, we were told to remember which baker we were! What made an impression on us was… Is it a bakery? Huh? Which baker? (lol) It’s a rather vague system… No wonder it wouldn’t work for foreigners… It’s a tiny restaurant with three seats at the counter and four tables ♬ The kitchen is run by a mother and daughter duo … Chicken Tempura!! The crispy, fluffy batter is unique, and it’s like a mix of tempura… fried chicken? or fries!! It’s delicious even without any seasonings♬ But when you add the spicy sauce that has remained the same since the restaurant opened, it’s a real treat!! It’s like endless love♡ When you let it bounce on rice once… rice ⇒ chicken tempura ⇒ rice ⇒ chicken tempura ⇒ chicken tempura ⇒ rice chicken tempura ⇒ chicken tempura ⇒ chicken tempura ⇒ rice chicken tempura in an endless loop – it’s like stealing rice!! Wow, this is the best chicken tempura in history!! YEAH‼ 5 New ♨ York Kumamoto “Yurax” Yes, I came to Yurax to relax ♨ I love saunas, Meshitabees!! When I came here, I was surprised!! Yes, it really made me realize that Hokkaido is a sauna-underdeveloped country … you know… Apparently, this place is also known as the holy land of the west, and is a popular facility attracting sauna fans from all over the country … Apparently, it was once ranked number one in Japan in the “Rakuten Travel” ranking of accommodations where you can fully enjoy saunas … Wow… It’s the best in Japan!! That’s amazing ♨ That ‘s proof that the sauna, cold bath, and relaxation chairs are all in place !! So!! But when I went inside, it was quite compact… I was surprised that it wasn’t that big 👀 All kinds of relaxation elements are packed into a limited space !! You know!! There were three types of saunas: a Finnish-style Aufguss sauna, a dimly lit meditation sauna, and a steamy, billowing meditation sauna called Oaso . After the Aufguss heat wave, we went into the deepest cold water bath in Japan! You won’t get this experience anywhere else! At 171cm for men and 153cm for women, we were surprised at how deep it was—it felt like we could drown! Hammers, be careful! Climb the rope leading down to the top of the cold water bath and you’ll find the Mad Max button! Press it, and ice-cold water will plummet down from above, just like a waterfall ! It’s an incredible cooling-down experience! There were all sorts of fun features, too, like an amusement park for adults. The warm outdoor bath was also great. The Aufguss was so refreshing , surrounded by a pleasant aroma and heat wave, and after enduring the extreme heat, the cold water bath felt amazing! It really felt like a real Aufguss! It was quite different from anything I’d experienced before… Seriously! Hey, the faces of the people sleeping on the chairs in this facility are as peaceful as Buddhas – it’s true – they were coughing up ectoplasm, everyone!! I thought this was true healing!! Right, this is a must-see in Kumamoto!! A detour point ♨ nda 6 “Today’s Pork Cutlet Curry” Kokura “Marukin” Yes The long-awaited popular curry restaurant!! “Marukin-san” I finally found it. Yes It’s a restaurant with a high hurdle, with repeated rejections due to temporary closures … but this time I was lucky enough to visit!! It’s finally a memory. The atmosphere of this pork cutlet curry paradise with rows of luxury cars lined up was amazing!! The clientele is a little different from regular curry restaurants … 100% male, 18 seats, almost everyone eats pork cutlet curry!! A paradise full of men ♬ No receipts !! The owner runs the place alone, by memory !! A unique worldview, I love it ♬ It was just too delicious!! I was so happy ♬ I almost forgot to turn the camera on 💦 Hey , what are you doing! Hey, I’m lazy…💦 Because I was really happy! It’s been a while since I’ve had such delicious katsu curry ! This curry is so runny it’s practically drinkable! The menu only offers katsu curry and other curry dishes in regular , large, and small sizes, with a boiled egg for 50 yen as a topping… They really are a curry specialty store! It’s not quite spicy enough… But with Gavan’s spicy spices, the options are endless! It’s great that you can increase the spiciness to your liking . The hard part is that they’re not open very often! I can’t count how many times I’ve been here… Ah, I’ve probably been to the store five times and only managed to eat once… It’s too difficult!? Or is it just a coincidence? Stop it! They were closed for a while and just reopened… Maybe I’m not feeling well? Boss… Yes, I really want to eat this again soon! I ‘m dying to eat it! Well, I won’t be able to get to Kyushu until the new year… but I’m looking forward to it ♬ So I’ll have to try it too! This is the current No. 1 Kyushu cutlet curry … and it’s even more delicious than this one! If you have any information, please let me know in the comments ♬ Thank you <(_ _)> 7. Oita “Yoshino Chicken Rice Preservation Society” Oita is famous for its chicken tempura, but for Meshitabees, this is it! Currently, the eat-in set meal is only available on Saturdays and Sundays, so it’s just onigiri, but this chicken rice is delicious ♬ Yes, I love chicken and mixed rice balls to begin with! I often eat them if they’re available, but… this chicken rice is on another level delicious, isn’t it? What’s so different about it? I don’t really know… Anyway, one bite and my eyes are drawn to it. Mr. Bean, you can tell! It’s just simple ingredients like chicken and burdock, but the flavor that permeates the rice is amazing! Really, why is it so different? It feels like… this is a flavor that could lead to obscurity♬ Maybe the locals don’t realize it because it’s sold in supermarkets ? Ah, maybe so? It’s like, this is what chicken rice should taste like‼ I’ve been eating this since I was a child, so I’m sure I’d be surprised if I tried any other chicken rice⁉ I’m sure… definitely ‼ It’s halfway between Miyazaki and Oita, so if you’re passing through here, you have to plan your visit on a weekend‼ That’s right‼ It’s isolated in the middle of a rural landscape, so you can’t crush it… I see‼ This chicken rice is so main course it doesn’t need any side dishes♬ I want to eat it‼ I can’t wait‼ 8 Beppu “Kozuki” Founded in 1947, it’s a very long-established restaurant‼ Kozuki , a deep and deep spot in Kitahama, Beppu City, is known as a famous gyoza restaurant‼ The gyoza have the perfect three qualities : thin skin, meaty, small, and crispy♪ But they have the four qualities too‼ Huh? Yes, it’s a tiny gyoza shop full of cats in a really off-the-beaten-path location , but at Meshitabees, we think these gyoza might just be the best in Japan! That’s right! There’s no doubt they’re in the top three! What? Not Unomiya, Hamamatsu , or Miyazaki? Really? I guess your favorite gyoza is Beppu, Fukuoka, or Kochi? Hey… But it’s all about personal preference, isn’t it? Everyone has their own opinion , but these are our favorite gyoza ♬ So, nice to meet you , Nachiku! I’ve only tried about two-thirds of the gyoza in Tabelog ‘s top 20 in Japan so far… I’ll let you know if I find any good ones ♬ By the way, this place is currently ranked 19th in Japan on Tabelog . Wow, where are they now? 1st place? Well, for 1st place… excluding Shinchi’s high-end Chinese restaurants, there’s Kurume 50ban, Gifu’s Kishu, Osaka’s Marumasa, and Kurume-style places… well, they’re all delicious though♬ Gyoza for beer and gyoza for rice feel different… Ah, that’s true‼ The ones here are totally beer-friendly‼ No doubt about it‼ Aren’t gyoza in the west almost always meant for beer? That’s right…I see! So true‼ Once you start eating these as a beer snack, you can’t stop‼ It’s not just Kappa Ebisen‼ I can’t stop♪ I can’t stop♬ Plus, 15 pieces for 600 yen is cheap‼ So cheap‼ Two people ate 30 in a second‼ Right, this is the main reason for Beppu‼ Without even taking a bath… Ah, come to think of it, we didn’t take a bath in Beppu’s hot springs, right? Yeah, we did in Yufuin too… What are we here for? Oita, eh? Let’s go eat!! 9 Fukuoka “Hakata Mizutaki Specialty Daidai” near Ohori Park Mizu Specialty Daidai Mizutaki is a dish you don’t see very often in Hokkaido, right? Yes, it’s so delicious, isn’t it? I remember being blown away the first time I tried it … Now that I think about it, I love mizutaki, so it makes sense that I also love chicken paitan … Ah, that’s true! The soup is just mizutaki, right? Chicken white soup! Right? Right? Yes. However, it’s become a bit more expensive, and there are other mizutaki restaurants that I’ve eaten at that are incredibly delicious … but now they’re around 6,000 yen per person. It’s hard to afford it for lunch … 6,000 yen?! No way, no way, no way, no way, if two people eat and drink, it’ll come to 15,000 yen, right? That’s right! Chicken dishes don’t really have an image of being high-end, right? : The threshold for entry is a bit high… that’s true… so I thought this place might be a good balance after all … yes, it’s delicious ♬ The somen noodles at the end are a nice touch‼ But I ‘ve only been able to eat mizutaki at 3 or 4 places so far… if anyone knows of a cheap and tasty place please let me know ♬ Thanks in advance <(_ _)> 10 Fukuoka “Yoshizuka Unagi-ya” Founded in 1873, the 6th year of the Meiji era, Yoshizuka Unagi-ya is a very old establishment . The first owner, Tokuyasu Shinsuke, opened it in Yoshizuka, Hakata as an eel specialty restaurant and then moved to Nakasu, which has a long history. I see… so that’s why it’s called Yoshizuka? It’s in Nakasu… that’s right‼ Yoshizuka, you see… it’s the first station on the JR line northeast of Fukuoka towards Kitakyushu , so I heard that Tamori, a comedian from Fukuoka, praised it , saying, “It’s the most delicious in Japan‼” I visited this place because I was used to it… Oh, this is really delicious! I thought so too. And it’s cheap! Cheap! If you want to eat something delicious in Sapporo now, it will cost you 4,000 to 5,000 yen! Hey, they have two, three, and four-piece options, so I opted for the stingy two! I chose the 2,150 yen A-type. Eel isn’t about quantity, so two pieces was enough to satisfy me . I don’t need that much, so I went for the stingy two! Yes, the plump meat and crispy, grilled skin are a taste you won’t find anywhere else… the fragrant aroma is irresistible. They say the art of eel skewering takes three years, splitting eight , and grilling for a lifetime! And Yoshizuka adds a unique technique called konashi! Konashi? I’ve never heard of it before! Hey, I don’t have kids, but konashi is a unique technique of kneading and pounding the eel while grilling it. The oil that seeps out of the meat cooks the eel without steaming the surface , resulting in a plump and crispy finish! That’s why it turns out so fluffy and crispy! At Yoshizuka, the sauce is also an asset! It’s a flavor that has been passed down from generation to generation, and apparently the key to the flavor of grilled eel is both the sauce and the timing of cooking ♬ Of course it’s delicious‼ It’s eel, after all, but the eel here is seriously delicious‼ And yet it’s cheap‼ What do you think? Meshitabi ‘s eel specialist Green⁉ Yes, in my opinion… it’s the best in Japan‼ This place♬ Wow‼ Delicious‼ I’ll definitely be back for the next Meshitabi in the Toyohira/Misono area of Sapporo, so look forward to it♬ SEE YOU SOON Kyushu is cheap and delicious‼ Right? Seriously… I hope people from Hokkaido watch this and realize that Hokkaido is actually delicious but expensive, right? I really think so‼ Yeah I hope that after watching this video , you’ll feel like visiting Kyushu? Just kidding . This video’s Kyushu content has a strong tourist flavor, but since it’s about local cuisine, there are Meshitabi videos from all over the country, so if you’re interested, please check out the video ! (lol) And for all of you who live in Kyushu, the Meshitabi who come from Hokkaido every year to spend the winter here have yet to discover anything delicious in Kyushu. If you could tell me, I’d be very grateful. Thank you <(_ _)> What are you looking forward to? This year in Kyushu? This year in Kyushu, I’m going to try Fukuoka’s Miyake udon again, and… Ah, yes, yes, it’s delicious♬ I guess it has to be Nagahama ramen‼ I love it~ (lol) Nagahama‼ Because you can’t get it in Hokkaido‼ Well, it’s delicious, isn’t it♬ Yes, Oi-chan… First of all, I’m going to have a revenge Marukin curry‼ Yes. It was so delicious that I almost forgot to film it… What a big blunder💦 Also, I’d like to eat Marukin curry at least three times , and Dekopon Franky, Tonkatsu Taketei , ahh! Yes , Togakushi udon ! Yoshiya’s… Yoshiya? Maybe Kichiya? I want to eat it! No, I really want to eat it all over Kyushu! Yeah, it’s cheap and delicious, it’s the best! I really think Hokkaido is expensive! That’s all from the field! Excuse me!
