22 Hours on Japan’s Snowiest First-Class Sleeper Train | 🇯🇵 Sunrise Express

Today we ride on Japan’s beautiful sunrise
Izumo & Seto sleeper express in the winter snow. Enjoying the most of western Japan Please enjoy the trip! Hello from the great Tokyo station. A scheduled snowy terrain
awaits us in western Japan. Here is the journey’s route. Riding the Sunrise Izumo sleeper
train from Tokyo to Izumo. Riding the Yakumo to Okayama and Takamatsu and Ride the Sunrise Seto sleeper train back to Tokyo. Prices in the description. Alrighty, my people, let’s go
head to grab my sushi delivery. This service is great. I can order fresh sushi from my phone. The ekiben store would look something like this during this time of the day. I’ve been relying on Sushiro since. My whitewashed sushi and regular sushi. Let’s go. The room booked for today is the “single deluxe” room. The hardest room to book on the coveted sunrise express. I found a cancelled ticket 2 days ago, early in the morning. I’m back in platform 9. Great the train hasn’t arrived yet. The train is here. Clap clap clappity clap. The sunrise express. As always, there’s a billion people
waiting for the shower ticket. It’s basically a tradition at this point. The total fare from Tokyo to Izumo is 29,290 yen.
(fare 12,210 yen/special 3,100 yen/room rate 13,980 yen) The Sunrise is currently the only sleeper train that operates daily in Japan, and is also known as the “moving hotel” that runs every night. This is called the Sunrise Izumo or Seto in Tokyo, and actually separates from here in Okayama, and heads to each of these locations. This is the Sunrise Seto heading to Takamatsu. My car will be car 11. Car 11 is the “first class” car featuring the most coveted
rooms on the sunrise express. I will be using room 25. All first class cars are
guaranteed to have the upper decks. I found my room. Here is the room. Opening my sesame seed. The room is about double the size of a single room. It’s like a business hotel. There are actually 2 types of first class rooms. The no smoking and smoking room. This room happens to be the smoking room. But it actually doesn’t smell like smoke at all. Leaving in one minute! exciting moment. The train is about to depart from Tokyo station. Goodbye my people. Sayonara Tokyo people. On the right side you can see Tokyo tower for 0.0001 seconds. There it is. There it is again. I kinda hate commuter trains all the sudden. Now that we’ve settled down… Let me get my stomach full. My whitewashed sushi and regular sushi. Drinkable salads. This is the good stuff And an energy drink. I’m running low on fuel, if you know what I mean. I’m still jet lagged, help. Clap clap clap clap clap It looks good. I’ll start with the yellowtail. salmon. We are passing through Atami. My whitewashed sushi. My top 5 favorite sushi from sushiro. I should’ve brought more soy sauce. Thanks for the food. The bed size is 196cm x 85cm and the width is wider than other beds. The room goods are pajamas, a cozy pillow, slippers, Now, here’s what you’ve been waiting for. How much is in this bag? Okay, let see… For starters, it’s a towel. JR custom soap, beauty soap Shaving foam Face cleansing foam Toothbrush Razor comb cotton swab and hair ties Hair cap Shoe shine Sanitary bag Tissue Shampoo & conditioner facial wash/lotion/cream this is the special shower card only for A room sleeper. There were so many amenities in this bag. This blanket is a special down comforter only available for A-class sleepers. Good nighters, people. I’m hoping for a nice clear sunny morning. Alright, I’m feeling really sleepy right now. May I sleep? … Yes. Yes, I may. Ah, bed. Thank you for your service. I can recognize that building from miles away. It’s Osaka station. 4:26am. Even for a city with a population of close
to 3 million, the station remains silent. There is no restroom inside my compartment, so I’ll be visiting a shared toilet every time I need to donate my waste. Can JR load a bidet or something. The city is quite unlike its usual self. A very unique view. It’s quiet out there. You can stargaze from inside the bed. Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. Let’s meet again in Okayama. I’ll be arriving soon to Okayama. There is a short 7-minute rest stop for Izumo passengers. and a 4-minute stop for Seto passengers. There is a little shop that sells
small onigiris to filling bentos. I want something for breakfast. Somethign light. Maybe a salad if there is any. Everyone is gathering up whatever the uncoupling is. That chicken bento looks good. The 2nd popular one. I remember there being a onigiri and such. There goes the sunrise Seto. Welp, no salad either. Got my corn soup as well. The guy ahead of me is buying a billion
bentos, so this was the last in stock. This was the last bento in stock. wowza A beautiful cloudless morning. Here is my 1000 yen bento. Wait, this is kinda nice. Wagyu. A karaage of some sort. You got your vegetables. And even tempura. Wow. And I was craving the rising sun rice. This is a feast for 1000 yen. Tempura time. Karrage. Speaking of residential area. Here is a can of corn soup. It tastes like that stick. There’s noticeable snow now. So when is the sun going to rise? That’s a lot of snow. Kinda nice. Kinda nice only for tourists. Japan is getting record breaking snowfall this winter. If it snows too much this train might even stop so please don’t snow too much pls. 2nd drinkable salad of the trip. Let’s start the room tour. a good hanger. there’s a chair and a desk It’s a pretty spacious desk. Looks like it’s locked Here’s an ashtray. There is a AC. You click here for the lights, There is another light. There is a cup. there is 1 power outlet There is a sink. The water flow is also good. Hang the towel here. There’s also a big mirror to make the room look bigger than it actually is. a regular trash can. There’s a small shelf here, and on the right side is the control panel. You can adjust the lights, volume, etc. and adjust here for the fan. You can try various things like the SOS button. I can set the alarm. The AC can also be adjusted. This room is good size and super comfortable. There is also a shade to ensure privacy. Train tour time. Let’s lock the room and go. The car next to it has a lounge that is open to the public. There is the Single Room from here. The single rooms are all occupied. There is a washroom. There is also a multi-purpose toilet here. Wheelchair accessible And compared to the single room, there’s
a bit of rooms left in the solo rooms. Upper and lower. This is the lounge. Compared to European and American lounge cars,
the amount of food and drinks supplied is minimal. There are only these vending machines. There are large windows and it feels open. There is a shower room. And I came back to my car here. There is a called “Sunrise Twin” downstairs. This is a room for two people with two beds. In fact, what lies ahead is There is a shower room reserved for us in the A-class sleeping cars. This is the Nobi Nobi berth. The cheapest “seat” in the sunrise express. There are no seats on this train. There were a billion people. Each compartment looks like this. There were 3 lower and 1 upper deck unoccupied. There are almost 80 compartments,
so it’s a 95 percent occupancy rate. Insane. Why don’t jr companies make more sleeper trains? It’s a storm out there. What? The snow is gone. The Mount Fuji of the west should
be around there on a clear day,   but the snow is covering everything. We’re arriving soon. I love sitting on this seat. No better way to enjoy my time on
the sleeper train than on a seat. Izumo station. Thanks for such comfy room. You are the best. Sunrise, thanks for the smooth ride. At last. I bought a salad from 7/11. This stuff costs ¥500 😭. Breaking news It’s kinda cold out there. I wanted to borrow a rental cycle,
but with this kind of weather… Ya I’m better off using the train or bus… It’s a one way train ride for 500 yen. It would be dumb to ride a bike for an 1 hour round trip in this freezing weather. It would be dumb. I’m back at famous swan river. And it’s now infiltrated with ducks. Rip swan. Holy is it cold. The wind, the wind is insane. It’s not even snow, it’s hail. HEEEELPPPP. I… I made it… Wait strawberry candy looks nice. Red bean mochi. Izumo Grand Taisha. This place is like the beginning of all shrines. That rope is a shimenawa, made of rice straw. It’s basically the cross of shrines. This is the largest shimenawa in Japan. It’s about 13m long and weighing 5.2t?! Unbelievable Hope it doesn’t collapse on anyone. My first visit of the year to a shrine for the third year in a row goes to Izumo Taisha Shrine. It’s basically a tradition at this point. same old same old. same old same old. I don’t think I’ve ever visit the back of the shrine. There was a mini shrine. You can have take sand as a souvenir apparently. Look at this. I bought a playing card. The back is kinda sick. I got the relationship card. Please give me new connections. My lottery was all good. I’m basically luck itself. Time for lunch. Glad it’s open this time around. What should I get? The tempura set or the tempura soba? Hmmm. I got the tempura set. Tempura bowl. What could this be? Miso soup. Izumo is the famous for Soba. lol Wait. Soba is kinda good. Haven’t had it for maybe half a year. Thanks. I am back to buy the red bean mochi. It’s oishi desu. I didn’t bring any spare clothes so I cycled my way to a mall. This looks good. I’m thinking about going to ramen next. lol. Ramen time. Tsukemen. I ordered the hot tsukemen. Let’s go. Bombers. Let’s go. Thanks for the meal. I made it back to the hotel. This is Dormy Inn. Arguably the best business hotel in Japan. They’ve got nice clean rooms. The rooms have a calming atmosphere. But that’s not all. The real reason why I stay here is the bath. Indoor bath. Outdoor bath. Sauna. And cooling bath. There’s even the complimentary ramen dinner. Infinity ramen buffet. Oh no. I went to the bathhouse and took a deep slumber. I missed the ramen buffet. It’s currently 4am. Morning, my folks. Can I go for a morning bath? Outdoor baths are great. It’s a bit cold though. My ears are about to fall off. Holy moly, my body smells nice right now. There’s now a free yakult thing. Apart from the bathhouse,
there’s a little lounging corner. Nice views With manga. Wow, it’s the guy from Fortnite. There’s even a free massage chair service!?! What the? This is the stuff you get in
international first-class lounges. Life’s good. Life’s good. It’s still before 8. Early worm gets the bird. Everyone’s heading to school. Maybe I’ll head here. Sukiya. I actually want a salad right now. The best burger chain in Japan. Mos Burger. I got their signature mos
burger and their onion rings. Looks good. I love the large slice of tomato. lol. Salad burger. I can’t tell if it’s a salad
or a burger or neither. What the heck is this? Hello~~ This is no longer a salad. It’s just lettuce. bruh. It all returns to this though. Great Barrier Reef. Thanks for the food. I went to a Lawson. and I bought this. Oden. There is a raddish and jelly fish? I was waiting for the sunrise express to arrive but it’s delayed for about an hour primarly due to the strong wind. Alright, I’m taking the train to
Takamatsu for whatever reason. First, I’ll be riding this cool orange train. The Yakumo limited express. The train is still brand new,
only started running in 2023. The interior is kinda nice. Cozy pale and green palette shades. Nice tables and a power outlet. Wifi on board as well. Pretty good. We’ll see you again, Izumo. Goodbye. The train is quite a speedy Gonzalez. The train is quite empty. Might pick up some more humans
along the way to Okayama. Here’s Lake Shinji. This lake harvests Shijimi clams. Like these. I’ll make miso soup with
these when I get back home. I bought these at the 7/11 inside Izumo station. Hugged between two fluffy milk bread. Known for its creamy rich flavor. And your foreign traveler’s favorite. It’s the egg salad sandwich. The GOAT of egg salad sandwich, apparently. Had to fight off a foreign tourist for this egg sandwich. Told him that this isn’t the GOAT sandwich he was looking for. He bought a baguette egg sandwich Big LOLs The sacred bunny rabbit snacks. Japan’s got these confectionery snacks. This stuff is so good. Ripped the living flesh off the rabbit to reveal the sublime chestnut within. This stuff is so good. I hate these heating seats. The seat just gets too hot. Help. The seat just gets too hot. Can’t stand them. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Who even needs their bum to be warmed up. That’s probably the last part of your body that needs heating. #anti_seat_warmer_gang #especially_on_trains Made it to Okayama station with my toasted bum. I scheduled my train from Okayama to Takamatsu by 2 hours so I can get some lunch. Okayama is known for their peaches,   so I’ll get something like a drink.
Hopefully, peach would be nice. How do they not sell peach drinks? Well anyway. What will be fitting for my lunch. Hmm. Hmhmm. Mhmmmmmmm. Hmm. Hmhmm. Mhmmmmmmm. Hmm. Hmhmm. Mhmmmmmmm. This is it. This is the one. Not a single customer. How. Holy heck. This looks good. Hello there. This is about 15 bucks. Nice. There’s even rice from the traditional rice cooker. Let’s actually go. Are you kidding me. It’s perfect What should I do after my meal? I’ve only got about 30 minutes. And it’s actually cold out. Ahhh. I don’t want to go outside. Thanks for the fooders. Next is Takamatsu. Okayama-Takamatsu(¥1,660) Here’s my ride to… It’s a double-decker train. The ordinary cars. It’s like I’m swimming in the ground. Weeee. We should be approaching the Great Seto Bridge soon. Holy cow. Clap clap. The views are insane. Today is a good day. We’ve made it to Takamatsu. The sunrise express back to Tokyo will depart in 4 hours. I plan on renting a bicycle. And head to a bath house. Guys it took an hour to get here. I want to eat dinner so I’ll probably bathe for about an hour or so. The facility is still new. I literally slept in the lay-flat bath. Wahaha. I’m actually going to be late for my dinner. Amazing hot spring place! I WAS HOPING TO EAT I DIDN’T HAVE TIME TO EAT! Noooo😭 I HAVE 3 MINUTES TO SPARE!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! HELP BUT CAN I VISIT THE SEVEN ELEVEN CAN’T BELIEVE I MADE IT HAHAHAHA I couldn’t reserve the first class compartment
so I’ll be using the single room back. HAHAHAHA Away we head back to Tokyo. Car 13, room 21 Here is solo room. This is Nobinobi seat. This is it. This is my room. I was able to reserve an upper floor seat. As expected, the ride to Tokyo is less crowded than the ride there. There is a hanger. a cup and outlet. slippers blanket is not a duvet This is a trash bag. This is a smoking room. We’re crossing the Seto bridge once again. This time it’s dark. I can’t see a thing. Glad I got nice sunset shots earlier. We’ll be crossing this bridge
for about 10 minutes or so. In this Single Room, there is a pyjama. a pillow. It’s just a regular blanket, not a down duvet. but it’s comfy enough. This is the same control panel as Single DX room. I wonder if there’s any difference. nope. I can set the alarm here. or lights. volume. heater. The heating is here below and above. So I bought this udon at the 7/11. I need a literal pot right now. wahhhhhhhhh Soon arriving in Okayama. This station is where the Sunrise
Seto couples with the Sunrise Izumo. It’s kinda cold out, so can I stay inside? Why did I come out of the train? It’s kinda cold. Izumo is coming toward us. It’s the Sunrise Izumo. So this is how it is. It’s opening up its mouth. The coupling begins. It’s rare to see this special occasion. The Izumo makes the first approach. Congrats on the kiss. Congrats on the marriage. Back to my cozy warm room. It’s so nice in here. I’m going to go to sleep now. Goodnight. See you tomorrow. We’ve passed Mount Fuji a long time ago. Not like we would’ve got any view of Mount Fuji in the winter season. We are a stop away from Tokyo station. I want to sleep more. I kinda wish for another sunrise train that runs later into the day, like arrival Tokyo station at 11am. Still had my rabbit from yesterday. This will be my breakfast. We came back to Tokyo. With this kind of weather, I think visiting Mount Fuji would be perfect. Let’s go we made it back to Tokyo. Made it back to Tokyo Station. Let’s go. Thanks for the watching. Have a nice day.

  4. Travels are ok and with a lot of info..but the guy spent half of his time eating ..seem to have fifteen the way he eat anything he gets.. the king of oriental humor I do not share..

  7. Снежная Япония выглядит совсем по-особенному 🤗 У нас в Сибири тоже много снега, много красоты, но всё выглядит по-другому, и здания и деревья. Поэтому Япония удивляет.

  8. This has got to be off peek travel times or just too expensive for regular folk, because these trains are so empty. The food looks totally delicious and the train travel is beautiful and comfortable; so nice to watch
