Staying at a Japanese Cat Hotel with Japan’s No.1 Cats 😻🥇 So Healing! / Villa Katsuyama Avail
This hotel is home to eight cats — including the one voted Japan’s No.1 cat to meet. 🎖️ Surrounded by beautiful nature, the cats spend their days freely and happily. At night, little Nara-chan the kitten came to visit my room. Dinner features delicious local dishes made with fresh ingredients. There are also three open-air hot spring baths. Please enjoy this relaxing journey with the adorable cats until the end. Hello! Today, I’m heading toward Chiba from the airport. The bus is running across the Aqua Line that connects Tokyo and Chiba. I’ve arrived at the station. Now I’ll transfer to a train. You can get here directly from Tokyo or Shinjuku. The hotel offers pickup from the nearest station. The Uchibō Line. Let’s go! It takes about an hour to reach the station. This area is on the west side of the Bōsō Peninsula, where you can sometimes see Mt. Fuji across the sea. I’ve arrived at the station. Looks like an unmanned station. The station is combined with a post office. 😳 A hotel staff member came to pick me up at the station or bus stop. The whole town feels so peaceful and calm. I can see the hotel ahead! The hotel grounds include the main and annex buildings, a garden, a dog run, open-air baths, and even a small mountain behind. Oh! 🐱 Hello there. As I walked closer, another cat appeared. I found some of the cats staying in the annex below the main building. These are Fuku-chan and Panda-chan. I heard they’re usually very close friends, but… Panda-chan looks a little grumpy today? While I was quietly watching from behind, it turned out to be Omake-chan’s happy playtime. 🐾 So cute! Panda-chan started licking me. 😳 Wanted a bit more licking, huh? Your next target is… Fuku-chan? But Fuku-chan looks away. Well, cat stuff. Omake-chan, nice to meet you. Let’s be friends from today. So adorable. Fuku-chan was voted Japan’s No.1 “cat I’d love to meet” in 2025. Congratulations, Fuku-chan! You really love having your back tapped, don’t you? This is Love-kun. He’s like the boss around here—probably on patrol. 🐾 Love-kun is Fuku-chan’s younger brother. Such a beautiful boy. Let’s check in at the main building. Hello. Is that Yume-kun? 😊🐱 Yume-kun still seems a little shy around people. The front desk is on the second floor. Wow, the antique furniture is beautiful. I place my shoes in the slot marked with my room’s name. Time to check in at the front desk. Love-kun was ranked No.1 in Japan’s 2023 “Cats You’d Love to Meet.” Panda-chan took 3rd place in 2021. It’s amazing that both siblings reached No.1 nationwide. Here’s my room for tonight. The room is furnished with beautiful antique pieces. One night with two meals: ¥19,360 (single booking). A yukata and amenities are provided. Toothbrush, cotton pads, and a razor. A hair tie too. There’s also a set of skincare products. Fresh flowers — maybe from the garden. The guidebook says there are three open-air baths and a coffee lounge. There are ten rooms in total. Here are the cats’ names and their personalities. I’m happy the room has its own sink and toilet. Let’s go meet the cats. There’s a lovely garden in front of the hotel. Panda-chan is back at the same spot as before. And there’s Fuku-chan too. Are you coming over? So cute. Even Panda-chan’s voice feels so soothing. Each time I pat her, she gently rolls onto her side. Before I knew it, Fuku-chan had come closer too. Fuku-chan. She flopped down beside me — looks like she wanted a massage. 🐱 Panda-chan spotted a bug and is watching it carefully. With one of her favorite staff members. The hotel’s top hiring requirement is simply: “You must love cats.” 🐾 Guests are allowed to give the cats treats — in moderation, of course. Panda-chan loves licking the other cats. But actually, she really wants to be licked, too. Fuku-chan? You’re licking the air again. 🤭 Of course—time for the back pats. Feeling satisfied now? When I start petting Fuku-chan, Panda-chan comes over too. She’s patiently waiting her turn for pets. Omake-chan likes to stay around this spot. Oh, sorry — didn’t mean to startle you. Omake-chan loves being petted too. Her fluffy fur looks perfect against the brick wall. You’re coming closer? How about a little scratch around your neck? A gentle head rub to finish the massage. 🐈⬛ The main building. Love-kun was wandering near the main building. They all roll over so easily. Omake-chan sneaks up from behind. What a charming body. Over there, Panda-chan is rolling around too. A jump… and a roll! Panda-chan, you look adorable in the shot. Here comes Love-kun. The cats seem to know when they—or their friends—are being filmed. Panda-chan looks a little annoyed at the interruption. 😆 Dinner time ran a bit late, so the staff gave them some Churu treats to keep them happy. Here comes Fuku-chan too. Here you go. Japan’s No.1 siblings. 🥇 These three love catnip treats. The oldest, Koyuki-chan, is fifteen years old. She still looks so young. Maybe her secret is the staff’s daily massages. Now it’s time for my dinner. Is that Fuku-chan and Panda-chan? Oh, it’s Love-kun. I chose to have dinner served in my room — it comes with a 10% service charge added to the room rate. Local seafood carpaccio, assorted meat terrine, appetizers, and carbonara. Everything looks so delicious. Vichyssoise — a chilled potato soup. Carbonara — they accidentally gave me a bit extra. For my drink, I ordered their homemade sangria. The carpaccio included sea bream, cutlassfish, and octopus. 🤤 This is “Mineoka Tofu,” a traditional local dish from Chiba. I’m already full after just the first five dishes. A palate cleanser — grapefruit with balsamic sauce — then beef stew and rice. Their beef stew has been loved for over 30 years since the hotel first opened. Rich and full of deep flavor. Dessert is blueberry semifreddo. After dinner, Nara-chan came by to play. Since Nara-chan is still little, she lives entirely indoors. When I asked the staff, they kindly brought her to my room. First, she does a quick patrol around the room. Nara-chan loves strings more than anything. I managed to find a string from one of the amenity bags. What do you think? Good job, Nara-chan! Wow, so strong! Such power! You win, Nara-chan. Nara-chan, that’s actually my skirt. You’ve got the wrong prey this time. So cute. After a quick bathroom break… She starts her patrol again. Is she coming? Amazing. So adorable. Round two begins! I gently try touching her little paw. The string is all worn out, and Nara-chan seems done playing for now. It feels like a scene from a Ghibli movie. Which leaf will Nara-chan choose? Cats always seem to love drinking from flower vases. I wonder why it tastes so good. How about this one’s flavor? Nara-chan played with me for about an hour. Let’s go to the bath. The one I’m heading to now is on the first floor. So many paintings on the walls. This is “Yoritomo’s Hidden Bath.” There are two baths here. An indoor bath. And an open-air bath. This town, Kyonan, is said to be where Minamoto no Yoritomo landed after fleeing the Battle of Ishibashiyama in 1180. It felt cozy and secluded — the perfect place to relax. While the warmth of the hot spring still lingers, I’ll turn in early tonight. Good night. 😴 Good morning. The bamboo outside the window looks beautiful. A little frog came to visit too. 🐸 I booked a private open-air bath for this morning, so let’s go. Changing into slippers. The private bath is to the right, and the other bath and lounge are to the left. The lounge. They serve coffee here. A little coffee break before the bath. What a lovely morning. Since I’m here, I’ll take a peek at the open-air bath next door. Now let’s head to the private open-air bath. “The Bath Above the Clouds.” Changing room. The bath uses bakuhanseki — healing mineral stones known for their health benefits. Bug repellent provided. There’s a forest right behind the bath. The sound of the trees was so calming. Yume-kun is on the bridge. Maybe that’s Love-kun with him. I heard the two of them are very close friends. The hotel owner and staff have been rescuing and rehoming cats in this area for nearly 30 years. Love-kun absolutely adores Yume-kun. He’s so fond of him that he sometimes shows a bit of “cute aggression.” Good morning, Omake-chan. Good morning, Panda-chan. And here comes Fuku-chan from somewhere, too. A staff member who just started their shift kindly called everyone over. A morning roll to start the day. Fuku-chan slowly sneaks closer. Both of them love getting massages. I can see the little heart-shaped mark on Love-kun’s back. Were you watching Fuku-chan? Fuku-chan. So cute. Such a perfect shape. Using my shoes as a pillow. Love-kun. Hatena-chan and her daughter, Omake-chan, are here too. Hatena-chan tends to keep a little distance from people. But she’s known for being very kind and caring toward the other cats. A short walk from the hotel leads to the Dog Run area. And there’s also the Wild Bird Forest Park nearby. It’s time for breakfast. A colorful Japanese-style set meal. The homemade dressing was absolutely amazing. Steamed okra. A soft-boiled hot spring egg. Namerō fish paste shaped into little dumplings. It’s time to check out. Thank you so much for the wonderful stay. Hatena-chan? Love-kun came out after finishing his breakfast. Love-kun dodged it so gracefully. It was so much fun, Love-kun. Thank you. See you. Bye-bye. Such an adorable mother and daughter. Thank you, Hatena-chan and Omake-chan. Finally, time to say goodbye to Fuku-chan. And of course, the farewell is with gentle back pats. Thank you, Fuku-chan, for letting me pet you. She drifted off into a peaceful nap. Thank you so much for watching until the end.
See you again in the next video. 🐱
This time, I visited a peaceful Hotel surrounded by nature in Chiba. It’s home to eight lovely cats — including Love-kun and Fuku-chan, who ranked 1st, and Panda-chan, who ranked 3rd in Japan’s popular travel site’s “Cats You Want to Meet” ranking. 🏆🐾
Most of them are incredibly friendly. While filming, they came close as if to say, “Please pet me!” or “Tap my back!”
The cats live freely within the spacious grounds, which feature three open-air baths, a beautiful garden, a dog run, and a quiet park filled with birdsong.
The guest rooms feel as if you’ve stepped back in time. I enjoyed delicious local dishes made with Chiba ingredients, relaxed in natural hot springs, and spent peaceful moments with adorable cats. ♨️
It was truly a heart-soothing journey.

What did Nara-chan have hanging around her neck? Looked more like a hair scrunchie than a collar.
