2 Days on Japan’s Capsule Sleeper Train! | 🇯🇵 Sunrise Express Journey

Hello, today we ride the Sunrise Seto sleeper train on its standard and smallest room! Enjoying the local cuisine and taking in the beautiful scenery. Please enjoy the trip! Hello from the great Tokyo Station. Today we are heading to Takamatsu,
Japan’s udon town, for the billionth time. This is the route for the trip. We travel 9 hours and 800km to Takamatsu to eat UDON. and return to Tokyo on the same day. A 1600km 34-hour journey! A day trip? Sounds about right. The round-trip fare was 44,110 yen. ($290) At night, only a limited number of bentos are available. And it’s always the expensive ones. So I went to Sushiro again for takeout. Can they sponsor me? Alright, let’s head to the platform. The Sunrise Sleeper Express arrives at the platform at 9:25pm. Platform 9, the usual. The Sunrise Express. I think it’s my first time riding the train this year. This is the lineup for the shower card. There are only 20 cards on each train. But look what I have. Thank you. This train has been in service for almost 3 decades and although it’s well maintained, I wonder how many times I will be able to ride this train. I’ll probably miss it when it’s actually gone. Our room is one of the most standard rooms of all rooms. The lower compartment of the single room. #4. It’s been months since I’ve been on this train. I can’t believe it’s been that long. Look how close the platform is. I’m basically buried in the platform. Not something you can see every day. The train departs. Good bye people Room overview. So this is the room. Nothing has changed. Nightrobe. Pillow. Blanket. The usual power outlet. Only one plug is no longer enough in this era so i bring an adapter. cup and cup holder. Slippers? I forgot they had these that I came with slides today. The window is so hazy it’s like riding on a dream. Garbage bag. There’s also this space, but I don’t want to sleep next to a backpack. Hanger. There are buttons here and there. The passenger before me was an early waker-upper. 10 years ago the radio was still running. They used to sell the towel sets inside the train as well. I wonder what’s going to change next. Late Dinner. Su… Sus… Sushi. Clap clap clap clap clap. My first meal of the day. I’m on a diet so being able to adjust how many pieces of sushi I eat is really helpful. Thanks for the food. It’s time to sleep. Here’s the lavatory. There is a hand soap. And this is the toilet. I wish they had a B-tier toilet, but it’s C-tier. There’s always this kid here. Looks like he’s enjoying life than most people. I’m back. time to sleep. I’ll sleep on the side with the power outlet. Nevermind, the power outlet side seems narrower. See you tomorrow. Good night. Good morning. It’s 3 am. I got about 4 hours of sleep, I think. I’ll go walk around the train. I’m in car 6. Car 6 has the standard sleeper rooms. Car 5 is the sleeper berths. Unlike Amtrak or any other coach seats. It doesn’t smell funky. And because it’s autumn. It’s very warm in here. Here’s the first-class car. This is the only car with a designated shower room. The rooms have upper first-class rooms, And lower sunrise twin rooms. This is car 3. Car 3 has the shower rooms. It comes with amenities like the weakest dryer known to man. There’s also a vending machine if you’re thirsty. The shower card lottery is already closed for the day. Here’s the very small lounge. You can enjoy the scenery pass by. These are the smallest rooms in Japan. I’ll be using these rooms to go back to Tokyo. There was one available. And we made it to the front of the train. The train is really popular. There are 236 rooms and 58 berths. Only 2 rooms and 3 berths were not in use. Very popular train. This is the halfway point of the sunrise express. This is where the sunrise Seto connects to the sunrise Izumo. A very important point for many people. There’s even an uncoupling ceremony at Okayama station. It’s like a rare occurrence and is treated like they just found some famous person. Let’s return to my room and get additional sleep. We are passing by Kyoto. I hope we get to see Toji Temple. But nope. The Shinkansen rail is blocking the view. Sad. I’d like to use the shower now that it’s empty, but… But then I realized I didn’t have a towel… Towels can not be purchased on board. Aaaaaaa. I’ll buy a towel on my way back to Tokyo. And use the shower room on the way back. I also didn’t bring sunscreen. Not ideal. Made it to Osaka station. We are passing by the Akashi Kaikyo bridge. One of the longest bridges in the world. When it opened in 1998, it held the world record for the longest central span of any suspension bridge: 1,991 m (main span) and total length 3,911 m. This is today’s breakfast. Chicken Katsu and Salad. The sun is starting to rise. We’ve arrived at the uncoupling station of Okayama Station. Well, look at that. No one knows why it’s this popular. I don’t think most people understand it as well. The Sunrise Seto departs first, so the full uncoupling can only be experienced on the Sunrise Izumo. Good bye my people. Let’s say my farewells to Honshu, Mainland Japan. An hour left. All that is left is to cross the bridge. The weather today seems good. What a lucky way to start the day. Morning like these are rare. Nice views, Island Lots of islands. They look habitable. Some are even large enough to sustain an economy. Beautiful. I didn’t even realize that the lower deck would have industrial views. We have arrived at Takamatsu station. Thank you sunrise express for carrying me all the way to Takamatsu. So I have more than 12 hours until my train back to Tokyo. What should I do? I’ve done a Takamatsu trip so maybe I’ll try something this time. Maybe I’ll do a train trip. North, east, south, west. Lots of freedom. I can even head back home if I wanted to, What is “orange town”? This is what I needed before boarding. I’ll think what to do while eating. I’m heading to the usual udon place, infront of station. We’re here at Udon place. In Kagawa Prefecture, Udon consumption at home is about three times the national average. The udon noodles used to be more soggy from my memory but it’s good now. Now I know why no one in this prefecture eats at Marugame Udon. Thanks for the udon. At the local 7/11, I bought sunscreen and the towel. It also came with a toothbrush. This is my billionth visit to Takamatsu so, Again, I want to visit some place I’ve never been before. The Seto Inland Sea is known for its islands. It’s a nice day today, so I’m going to visit some islands. Seems like it’s a choice between Naoshima and Shodoshima. I’m going to Shodoshima today because there are more trips on the way back. It’s ¥2660 for the round trip. It will take about 35 minutes to get to the island. The island we are heading to is called “Olive Island.” It was the first place in Japan to successfully cultivate olives. Nice Olive color seats. The seats on this ship are really nice. I was expecting a beat-down ship, but it’s not bad. You can see the Great Seto Bridge from here. Tiny, but it’s still there. We made it to Shodoshima. Why does it smell like sesame oil? We are at Olive Port, Let’s head to Angel Road. Google maps review (6,261) There were rental cycles. This will be my feet on this island. I made it to Angel Road. Look at that. A beautiful scenery. Let’s keep cycling. Look at that, there’s even olives growing next to the road. We made it to Tomioka Hachiman Shrine. What a nice place. I like how all these shrines are built where the views are beautiful. I wished for a good lunch. It’s almost noon, so I might want to eat something. What the heck is this? This is not lunch. Some Vtuber Goods. There was an IC card inside, so I’m going to head to bring it to the police. 2.64 million. 1.52 million. I LOSE. After a 9km cycle, I made it to the Olive Garden Park. I got a soft serve. It’s supposed to be olive flavor,
but it tastes like normal ice cream. Everyone is carrying a broom for some reason. This place is cool, look at those seaside views. Alright, let’s eat lunch… … The cafe has closed. Now what do I do? I found some souvenirs. This looks pretty cool. Well, it’s been a long day, but a good long day. I found a cool temple on the way back. Hmm views of roofs. There wasn’t much up there. I finally found a place that’s open at this time. I will eat my late lunch here. What the heck is this? Here’s my olive oil raw somen. I got the olive oil raw somen. ¥950. Yay. Very happy stuff. Have not had somen noodles outside the ones you make at home. Two of the famous things that this island offers. Pretty good somen. Don’t know where the olive oil went, but it’s good. Clap clap. Adding this oil thing because I was recommended. This oil is great. Clap clap. Thanks for the food. Why does it smell like sesame oil on this island? No one knows. Look at what I found. A slowpoke udon. Well, it’s time to head back to Takamatsu. Good weather, nice temperature, good experience. Thank you and goodbye, Shodoshima. We made it back to Takamatsu. I still have 4 hours left until my train arrives. I’ll go eat dinner or something. Wait, there’s a Pokémon Center in Takamatsu now. Wait, why is it cheaper than the one I bought… I bought card packs. I’ll open them on the train back. The favorite udon shop that I thought permanently closed reopened. I think the restaurant actually moved to other street. It was the best udon I had in Takamatsu. I want to give it a try once again. This place Shinpei Udon. This will be my last meal in Takamatsu. The udon is normal. I think the other store improved its udon. So I got an extra meal, Tempura set again. The tempura is still good. It doesn’t even have an oily taste. Heading to the onsen because I’m tired and haven’t bathed for a day. I cycled 32km today. Well, that was nice. Let’s head to our train. The thing is, I’m sleepy. It’s hard to keep my eyes open. I’m going to get a good night’s sleep today. ade it on time. Today I will be using the smallest room on the Sunrise Express. Sunrise Solo. (Lower) There are five types of private rooms: Single DX, Sunrise Twin, Single Twin, Single, and Solo. Today’s room is the smallest in Japan. The Sunrise solo berth. I remember it being a closet. The Sunrise single room on the way here was small, but it was slightly larger than this. I have found it. My room is right here. Car 10, room 3. Here it is. The tiniest sleeper room in Japan. It’s like being inside a cardboard box. The train departs for Tokyo. This is the upper berth. And this is the lower berth. Look at all that legroom. There is just enough space to fit your shoes. Pajama, pillow, blanket, AC, a cup, a power outlet, garbage bag, Luggage space. window and shade, phone bed, hanger, switch panels, lights, clock, volume, SOS, a mirror on the door The ceiling is fairly high at the entrance. The back side of this room is a staircase for the upper berth. So the neighbors climb these stairs to their rooms. There is a guide in the car here.  The Izumo-go trains are No. 1-7, and the Seto-go trains are No. 8-14. They are separated at Okayama and moved to their destination. We are now crossing the great Seto Bridge. We are back in home homeland of Honshu. We made it to Okayama station. At Okayama station, Sunrise Seto and Sunrise Izumo will relink once again. Becoming one. ???? The sunrise Izumo just gave birth to 2 humans. And the marriage… It is a success. Congratulations. Good bye, people. I’m sleepy. I’m basically sleeping right now. This is the bed. 196cm x 70cm. (77in x 27in) And the leg side is even narrower, 55cm (77in x 21in) Just enough size, space for your legs to rest. See you tomorrow. I slept through all of Kansai. I wonder if anyone boarded from the stations I missed. I do remember it being hectic. The sound of doors opening and closing. Hamamatsu stations. I think a majority of people got on at Osaka. Even though it’s the tiniest room, it’s really comfortable. I was expecting it to be more claustrophobic, but there’s room on the head side. Sleeping on the left side feels wrong. I think I tried this before and hurt my shoulders. Shizuoka station. In the summer time, if the weather is good,
you’ll see Mount Fuji on the left side. !!! It still dark but I can see the silouette of Mount Fuji! I only bought this for breakfast. Regrets. I want to rice. It’s the Sagami Bay. Ok, let’s shower now. There’s a timer. We’re almost there. I think we’re a bit behind schedule. Good, I want a bit more sleep. We are scheduled to arrive at 7:30. There was cargo that caused the delay, apparently. Look at all these people heading to work. It’s not even 7 am yet. I forgot about this. Pokémon cards. If I pull a rare card, this trip will pay for itself. Pls. No way I pulled a Donald trump card. lol. We just crossed the Tama River. We made it to Tokyo prefecture. This Donald Trump knows bite and… evidence gathering. No way I pulled a Donald trump card right after going to an island. We made it back to Tokyo Station. I can’t believe it’s only been 2 days since my departure. What a trip. That island was amazing. Thanks for watching!!! Ok! Going back home now! Thanks for watching. Have a nice day!

  1. Betcha I know what the brooms are for. I suspect it's a Kiki's Delivery Service reference because I THINK she went to that island in one scene. (Don't quote me. It's been forever and three halves since I last saw that.)

Also…do you think Olive Island has Arboliva as its unofficial Pokémon mascot? Looks like Slowpoke might be Takamastu's mascot given all the Slowpoke merch at the Pokémon Center there.

  2. The Sunrise Solo lower berth feels like it'd be less intimidating than the upper.

e: "right after going to an island" amazing lmao

  4. Oh, I remember Shodoshima from when I went there in mid 2011. Nice place. We rented a car. Moving around on a bicycle has to be exhausting as all hell. It's not a small island.
Also, the thing you found on the floor is a small ita-bag with Hololive streamer Shirakami Fubuki. Either someone dropped it or they left it at the shrine as an offering.

  5. I live in Michigan in the US and we sure don’t get food like that at our 7 Eleven, that looks delicious! Love your videos thank you

  6. Your comedic brilliance has completely captivated me, and I find myself thoroughly entertained by your incredible performances and engaging content. The adventures you share are not just amusing, but truly delightful and inspiring. I am genuinely grateful for the opportunity to experience your unique and hilarious perspective, which brings immense joy and laughter into my life. Your exceptional sense of humor is a true gift that brightens my day and leaves me eagerly anticipating your next incredible creation.

  8. What a lovely trip you had. The island is fabulous and the temple was so pretty. The single rooms are perfect for such a short trip where you can sleep for most of it. I just love how the trains are so clean.

  9. いつもよりカメラのパンのスピードが気持ち速いような、、、日本仕様ですね。

  10. Great trip, I don't think this first time on this year you are taking Sunrise Seto, because as far as I remember in this year you are doing a trip trying all of Sunrise Express on a round trip (departing from Tokyo by Sunrise Izumo, then taking Express Train from Izumo to Takamatsu via Okayama and back to Tokyo by Sunrise Seto), beside in this year you are already taking Sunrise Express 3-4 times (including your parents trip). Overall never disappointed taking Sunrise Express, just hoping there's successor of this train in production with modern amenities.

  11. 23:06 I think this place is commonly used to stage Kiki's Delivery Service cosplay photos, maybe because of the windmill (or the live action was filmed there or something)? It's popular to take photos astride a broom while jumping in the air so you look like you're "flying". That's my guess!
