カンボジアの首都で悲しい出来事から素晴らしい出来事へ!
Phnom Penh is a city of contrast, a place where
Cambodia’s darkest history and its brightest beauties stand side by side. Today we are taking
you inside three of the most powerful landmarks. The Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, the killing fields
of Choeung Ek and the Royal Palace. From tragedy to triumph. This is Cambodia story and it’s
one you’ll never forget. What’s up guys and good morning and welcome to Phnom Penh Cambodia,
the capital of Cambodia. We have finally arrived. We just came from we’re in Ho Chi Min City. So, we
switched it up. We’re in the capital of Cambodia. We’re going to show you around. I will say
Cambodia has completely surprised me. It is way more advanced. Uh way more nicer than I thought
it would be. I kind of had this third world nation mentality. I didn’t do any studying on it. I
didn’t watch any YouTubers coming to Cambodia. So, I honestly didn’t know what to expect at all. And
uh I will say this, it has completely exceeded my expectations. I’m extremely surprised. Standing
by to stand by. It’s going to be a great time. We got six days here and uh we’re going to make the
most of it. So, we’ll see you when we see you. I’ll take your iced americano sugar, dessert,
sugar, green tea lattice. So, yours is 5,000 Cambodian. Mine is 5,000. $2.50. $2.50 for two
cups of coffee. Why you like this? No. So, after taking our coffee, I took a brief latte and his
americano and I got pissed off. We just ordered a tuk tuk to take us at the royal house. Yeah, we
actually got a car with air condition. Yeah, it’s like 40° and I refuse to sweat. And then we’re
going to consider getting a motorbike even though we had a really bad experience just a second
ago to rent us a motorbike. It was $10 a day, but he wanted to keep our passport. And get this,
if we didn’t want to uh give our passport away, which you should never do, you always hold on
to your passport. He wanted a $2,000 deposit, the price of the motorbike, which is insane.
Well, this guy scammed us. And then the fact that we didn’t order it, he charged us $2 because
we didn’t we didn’t sign the deal with him, which I argued. I just paid him the $2. So,
I’m a little annoyed cuz that was ridiculous. He just tried to scam us. Hello. happens. It’s
not that good as we thought at the beginning. We just arrived at Tuol Sleng, once a
high school in Phnom Penh. But during the Khmer Rouge regime regime from 75
to 79, it was transformed into Security Prison 21 or S21. This place became
one of the most notorious detention and torture centers in Cambodia’s history.
This should be the names of everyone that was killed. More than 18,000 people passed
through these walls. Teachers, doctors, monks, even children. The classrooms were
turned into cells and interrogation rooms. Victims were forced to confess to crimes they
never committed before being sent to their deaths. What makes this place so powerful
are the thousands of photographs. Every prisoner was photographed on arrival,
their faces staring back at us decades later. These silent portraits are haunting reminders that
each number was a real person with a real story. Out of all the prisoners who entered S21,
only about a dozen survived. Walking here, you can feel the weight of the silence.
It’s not just a museum, it’s a memorial. It’s the rainbow hotel. Tell He tells the
story about it. Yeah. Okay. You’ll sign it for me? Yeah. You want to tell me? It’s
going to be quite impressive. I’m excited to read some of this and get some of the history
of the atrocities that took place here. So, it’ll be a sad kind of somber, but um maybe
there’s some beauty at the end of this. We’ll see. Just outside Phnom Penh lies Choeung Ek, one
of the largest of Cambodia’s so-called killing fields. This is where prisoners of front slang and
thousands of others were brought to be executed. Mass graves were discovered here in the 1980s.
Today, the Earth still reveals fragments, bones, teeth, pieces of clothing, and the surface after
the heavy rains. It’s chilling, but it shows how recent and raw this history really is. This
tree was used as a tool to hang a loudspeaker, which made sound louder to avoid the mono victims
while they were being executed. This is a massive grave of more than a thousand victims, children
and women, those whose majority were naked. And next to it is the tree where they used to
smash children’s head. The victim clothes. This is a massive grave of 166 people without
heads. Visiting Chaos and Chunk Egg is heavy, but it’s necessary. It’s about memory,
truth, and ensuring that such tragedies are never repeated. Cambodia today
is a vibrant and full of life, but these sites are a reminder
of the resilience of its people. This stupa holds the remains of over 5,000
victims. It’s not easy to look at, but it’s here to honor the death and remind future generation
what unchecked power and ideology can do. What’s up, guys? We’re heading off to the
Grand Palace or Royal Palace, I should say. We’ve been excited to check it out. We heard it’s
beautiful. So, we’re going to take a tuk tuk there and uh we should be there in about 10 minutes
roughly. So, see you there when we get there. We just arrived. Was 3 minutes, 4 minutes
with tuk tuk and only $1 to come here. Now we are going inside. Like always
in every place temple, grand palace, you should be wearing the right clothes.
Thank you. So, uh, but we need a sh. Hello guys, we made it to the Royal
Palace. This is our guy Bonsai and he will be showing us around and telling us
about all the history and culture of the Royal Palace. The Royal Palace of Phnom
Penh has been the official residence of Cambodia’s king since it was built in
1866. It’s not just a palace. It’s a symbol of the nation. Blending traditional
Khmer architecture with French influence. Yeah. It’s built in 1866. 1866. 66. And we have uh
some gates having uh its own function like this is the victory gate. Yeah. The victory gate used only
by the king. When the king want to get in out from the palace, he get So this is like this private
entrance right here. 1917. 1917. Wow. and right just from and uh not only the the
columns the the rail but the wall and even the roof. What year was it built?
That is built in 1869. 1869 during the Swiss canal in Egypt to Cambodia
as souvenir by Napoleon the third. Next to the palace is the silver pagoda, named
for its floor covered in over 5,000 silver tiles, each weighing a kilogram. This is where
Cambodia’s most sacred treasure are kept, including the Emerald Buddha and the life-sized
gold Buddha covered in over 2,000 diamonds. It wasn’t allowed to record inside the silver
pagoda. I is the holy place in here. The water is for good luck. God bless us both.
So, we should wash our hands. Yeah. Wash your hands. Yeah. Like this. Yeah. Yeah. And
put some on the head. On the head. Like this. Have some luck. Lately, we haven’t had Thank you.
Thank you. And the word from the lines. Yeah. Is it in India there? Um that origin especially for pregnant lady before
delivering the baby. Beautiful. Very unique. He drink the king would sit
and then they carry him on the Yeah. The palace isn’t just about royalty. It represents
Cambodia’s continuity through colonization, war, and tragedy. It has remained a
living symbol of national pride. We want to give you this. Yeah. And let me try for any unclear pronunciation.
No, you are very good. Thank you. We just arrived at the other location that is
Wat Phnom. Only for fornigers is $1 to enter. Right here is Wat Phnom, the temple that
gave Phnom Penh its name. Built in 1372, it sits on the only real hill in the city, 27
m high, and it’s one of the most sacred spots in Cambodia capital. The staircase leading up
is guarded by nagas and lions. Around the hill, you also see shrinks where people come to
pray, burn incense, and make offerings for life and prosperity. The main vihara houses
a large seated Buddha surrounded by mortals. The paintings show stories from the
Buddha’s past lives. So in many ways, this is where Phnom Penh began. A simple hill
that grew into the capital of Cambodia. But Font is more than just a temple. Is the heart
of the city’s origin story. Visiting Wat Phnom means confronting Cambodia’s past and celebrating
its resilience. The genocide sites remind us of unimaginable suffering while the royal
palace remind us of beauty, tradition, and survival. Together they tell the story of a
nation that refused to be defined by tragedy only.
Phnom Penh, Cambodia — a city where tragedy and beauty exist side by side. In this documentary-style vlog, we explore:
