A private inn with 8 rooms! Room with hot spring. All baths are reserved for private use! Shabu-shabu with wagyu beef Go to Akayu Onsen in Yamagata Prefecture! Yamagata Prefecture Nanyo City Akayu Hello everyone! This time, we will introduce Akayu Onsen Matsushimakan in Yamagata Prefecture. Akayu Onsen opened in the Heian period approximately 930 years ago (1093). During the Edo period, the lord of the Yonezawa domain, Takayama Uesugi, is known to have visited the hot springs. Akayu Onsen Matsushimakan is a long-established inn that was founded in the early Taisho era, and is a hot spring inn with a total of 8 rooms with an excellent sense of privacy. It is also easily accessible, just a few minutes by taxi from Akayu Station on the Yamagata Shinkansen, and approximately 5 minutes from Nanyo Takahata IC on the Tohoku Chuo Expressway . This time, I stayed in a room with a hot spring semi-open-air bath at Matsushimakan. In this video, we will give a full review of the charms of Matsushimakan, including an overview of the inn, rooms, private baths, dinner and breakfast. The video is full of highlights, so please take a look. We arrived at Matsushimakan. Matsushimakan History and Overview Located in the heart of Akayu Onsen, which is rich in nature and home to Eboshiyama Park, which was once chosen as one of Japan’s top 100 cherry blossom spots and where the Yonezawa feudal lord Yozan Uesugi visited for hot spring treatments, and vast vineyards that are known for their wine production. Matsushimakan is a long-established inn that was founded in the early Taisho period when Matsugoro and his wife opened a small inn. The current Matsushimakan is a hot spring inn with a total of 8 rooms and a great sense of privacy. Let’s enter the building through the purely Japanese-style entrance, which also has beautiful pine trees. There was a garden right after entering. Daruma-san welcomes you in the lobby with a wonderful atmosphere ^^ Brochures, wonderful furniture♪ There was a small shop Yamagata’s famous confectionery Nanjodabe^^ The Kumiko decoration is also retro♪ We will introduce you to the surprisingly large interior of the building. First, let’s head to the private bath located in the separate building. The atmosphere of the hallway and partition doors is wonderful, isn’t it? The common room in front of the private bath is the largest common space in the building and is used as a place to relax after taking a bath. It has a retro atmosphere♪ It actually has a nice sulfur scent ^^ I’ll introduce the private bath later. I will introduce you to the main building where the rooms are located. On the right side of this passage is the dining venue. It faces the courtyard and is a very nice Western-style dining venue.Let ‘s go further inside. Along the way, there is a private indoor bath and an open-air bath (more on that later). There was another common room between the private baths. Although it is smaller, it has an equally retro atmosphere ^^ There are guest rooms further back. There are 8 guest rooms in total, 3 of which have semi-open-air baths. There are 4 regular rooms without baths and 1 Western-style room. All of the rooms are large, with a dining area of at least two rooms , and if you wish, you can have breakfast and dinner in your room. Western-style rooms have twin semi-double beds, and other rooms have Japanese-style futon beds. There was a library along the way. There is a wide variety of manga ♪ Our room was at the end of a long hallway ^^ Check-in Sit on the sofa and check-in while having a drink. The apple juice made at Matsushimakan’s farm is so delicious ^^ This time we will be using the standard plan, and the accommodation costs will be revealed at the end. This time we will use the standard plan, and the accommodation costs will be disclosed at the end. Check-in is at 15:00 and check-out is at 11:00. We were guided to our room while explaining the facility. We were also given a detailed explanation of the facilities in the room. Room Review This time’s room is a lacquered room with a semi-open-air hot spring bath. The entrance has a woven floor. The restroom was large and there was one for men too ^^ This is the dining room. Dinner can be served in your room if you wish (for a fee) The coffee cups are stylish♪ There is plenty of drip coffee available👍 There is nothing in the refrigerator. You can see the garden view from the dining window. There was a tea set on the dining table, a plain face towel ^^ Amenities such as a shaver, brush, toothbrush, etc. are available. There were women’s cosmetics from POLA. The dryer is Nanoe. This is a semi-open-air bath in the room. There are stairs in front, so you need to be careful ^^ The area around the bath is made of wood, which gives it a nice atmosphere ^^ The bath is made of stone and has a luxurious feel, and is spacious enough. You can see the view of the garden from the window, which is nice 👍The source water is a little hot, so you add water while entering the bath. The hot water is clear and colorless, and has almost no odor. Shampoos are POLA. This is a 10 tatami Japanese-style living room. The view of the garden from every room is amazing 👍 When you open the window, you can see the spacious garden. It is a wonderful scenery that makes you feel calm and healed. At first glance, the room looks retro, but the tatami and wood are new, so it doesn’t feel old. There was a TV behind the shoji ^^ The yukata looks like this, and it has a mature and stylish pattern ♪ The bath basket is nice ^^ The cushion on the chair is fluffy ^^ The tea sweets are from Yamagata’s famous confectionery “Nanji” Yodabe” Let’s take a bath in the room ^^ There are steps, so it’s nice to take a half-body bath ^^ The half-open-air space has a good sense of openness 👍 The bath in the guest room is 100% free flowing from the source. It has a slight sulfur scent. It smells like. The hot water has an elegant feel that is easy to bathe in.👍Introducing the private baths.Firstly , there is the separate building “Tochiriya” and the private bath “Tochiriya”.There is a changing area. Source name: Akayu Onsen pH7.3 Sulfur-containing sodium/calcium-chloride spring, hot spring temperature 60℃ Private bath “Tochiriya” Because it is close to the source, it has a strong sulfur scent. It’s a spacious bathtub that can accommodate two people comfortably. There is one washing area where you can add water as needed. The surrounding area is made of wood and has a nice atmosphere♪ It is 100% free flowing from the source. Next, we have the private indoor bath “Nukumori”, the private bath “Nukumori”, and the private changing room bath “Nukumori”, which is similar to the bath in your room, and is made of stone and has a luxurious feel. The surrounding atmosphere is made of wood and has a nice feel 👍The windows are large and when opened, it looks like a semi-open-air space. There is also a washing area. Finally, the private open-air bath “Jun” Private open-air bath The changing area panel heater is nice during the cold season 👍 There was a washing area in front. Private open-air bath “Jun” The bathtub is made of large stones and has a great atmosphere. It is spacious enough for 1-2 people. Although there is a roof and a blindfold, there is ample sense of openness. It’s dinner time. You can choose to stay in your room (for a fee), but this time we will have it at the venue. I was seated at a table. You can see the view of the courtyard from the restaurant ^^ Only plates and menus are on the table ^^ The aperitif is fruit sake from Dewazakura Sake Brewery, a local brewery in Yamagata. “Dodana Dazu” means “How do you like it?” I chose the apple (left) and my wife chose the “Doda Nadazu” (right). It was a rich and delicious fruit liquor ♪ This is the drink menu. They have a variety of sake, shochu, and more, but they also had wine from four local wineries 👍 Having said that, my wife’s first cup was Premium Malt’s 😅 It was said that the server had fine foam called “Kamiwa” ♪ I had plum sour for my first cup ^^ It’s on the menu for dinner. I had the impression that the number of items was small, but I had the firefly squid ponzu jelly ♪ The bowl was also chilled, which was amazing! The firefly squid is bubble-wrapped and delicious. It’s an elegant appetizer. You can enjoy it with a refreshing jelly . Steamed cherry salmon with cherry leaves. The scent of wasabi with silver bean paste is amazing! It’s rolling! It’s very elaborate ~ The bean paste is so sticky that it gets caught up in the ingredients ~ The bean paste is firm and it’s well-coated, and the flavor is packed right into the middle ♪ The wasabi is also good! This scent is the best~ ♪ Wow~ Looks delicious ~ Shrimp Mozuku soup It’s not like the shrimp stock is coming out, it’s delicious ~ ♪ I feel like I can eat mozuku in one bite ^^ Earlier it had a strong taste, but this time it’s lighter and refreshing. Shrimp , plump, three-piece sashimi sashimi: octopus, tuna, and flounder, but I don’t think the octopus comes out very often ^^ Maybe it’s boiled a little? It’s easy to eat and doesn’t have to be crunchy or stringy♪ Main dish: Specially selected Yamagata beef, served with shabu-shabu sesame sauce and ponzu sauce. To go with the meat dish, I tried Oura Wine’s red wine for the first time.Refreshing yet rich 👍Special Yamagata Beef Shabu Shabu Big Meat! It’s soft and delicious~♪ Shabu-shabu is the best way to enjoy the refreshing beef with the delicious sauce~ The rice cooked with bamboo shoots has finished cooking (^^/ It feels like the flavor has really soaked in♪ The rice is really soaked in flavor . It’s a menu that is meant to be eaten in a hearty manner. It starts off with a light taste, and then finishes up all at once.LOL Shijimi SoupThe piping hot Shijimi soup is exquisite👍The Shijimi clams are small, but the soup stock is perfect. Today’s dessert, panna cotta and fruit dessert , can be served in your room. It’s melt-in-the -mouth~♪ I thought it would be harder, but the sweetness of the creamy panna cotta and the sourness of the fruit were nice ^^ There’s even more leftovers. They made rice balls for me as a midnight snack.I’m so happy about this as I don’t want to leave any leftovers as much as possible👍It was delicious! I was given a futon in my room during dinner. It was quite thick and comfortable to sleep on ^^ Night view Good night ~ Zzz Morning view It was sunny today (^^/ Actually, there is a cherry tree in front of me, and it seems like I can monopolize it from this room ^^ Morning market At Akayu Onsen , there is a morning market held twice a month on Sundays. This time, I happened to have the timing, so I went there with my wife ♪ There were a lot of products lined up ^^ In fact, at this time . I was planning to stay for several nights, so I couldn’t buy raw food😭What a sweet carp stew😳Handmade sandwiches and other stew hamburgers Fresh rice cake served in the morning Natto and white sesame flavor^^ I bought it for dessert after breakfast^^ Surprisingly, there was killifish. They were on sale ^^ I’ve been buying a lot of things 😆 It’s a thrill to get freshly made tofu wrapped in herring and kelp straight from the barrel ^^ Looks like shopping would be fun (^^♪ It was a little late, so some items were sold out. If you’re staying at Akayu Onsen, be sure to check out the morning market ^^ It ‘s breakfast time. Breakfast is served in your room. The view of the garden is nice 👍 Beautiful and luxurious breakfast ^^ Small dishes . And hot spring egg roll cabbage , the standard breakfast, grilled salmon , miso soup, tofu and nameko morning market I was so excited because it was so cheap ♪ Let’s eat it ~ Looks delicious! This is probably not hot spring egg ♪ roll The cabbage vegetables are crunchy! The small bowl is also nice! Grilled salmon with meko, tofu, and wakame seaweed with a squeeze of lemon. Delicious! Check out is at 11:00, so you can relax after breakfast. You can do it ♪ You look so happy (^^ ♪ I like the slightly firm and jiggly texture 👍 The yolk is rich and delicious 💖 I like this thick texture ♪ For dessert after breakfast, I bought rice cakes at the morning market. ^^ I had white sesame and natto, and it’s nice to have freshly purchased white sesame rice cake♪ It’s big~ Just the right amount.Even though the sesame paste feels light, it has a lot of flavor ~ It was delicious♪ Thank you for the meal.I sat down in the checkout lobby and checked out. This time, the standard plan accommodation cost for 1 night and 2 meals was 96,000 yen for a family of 3 (2 adults, 1 child). How was Akayu Onsen Matsushimakan? It was a stay where you could enjoy a wonderful sense of privacy, with 8 rooms in total, a private bath, and in-room meals .
This was definitely a luxurious inn, thank you very much for the new video! I especially liked the garden view from the bath in the room.
I finally found where the music is from. Instant Crush!
This little inn has a very cozy interior and relaxing feel. Since we will be staying at GOTENMORI this April, perhaps I should try Matsushimakan for Oct. Maybe after Yomogino in Bandai Atami (hopefully we will be able to book the room with the outdoor onsen), we can stay at Matsushimakan. I will keep planning😊
Visiting Japan is always for the ryokans, meals and hotsprings which we truly enjoy in the cooler season.
Do you show your videos to the ryokan owners so they can see what a wonderful job you did in showing to YouTube viewers?
This is another lovely video you did. Subarashi! Thank you.
