so today I’m going to be going to the number one attractive prefecture in Japan for the first time so every year the brand Institute research in Japan releases a local brand survey and one of the section in that survey is the ranking of all prefectures based on its attractiveness so the number one ranked prefecture this year has actually been number one for 16 consecutive years and that prefecture is Hokkaido so I’m in N airport right now and my flight was supposed to be at 250 p.m. and I was supposed to get here with the Skyliner Express train but then that train got suspended and I found out when I was about to transfer to that train so they told me to take the local line instead so I did that hoping that I can still barely make it but the Skyliner train takes about 45 minutes to get to n airport and the local train can take anywhere between an hour and a half to 2 hours on top of that because the Skyliner got suspended the local train schedule got messed up as well so it was moving really slow and I knew that I wasn’t going to make the flight and I was just like panicking thinking what I should do and on top of that there’s people speaking quite loudly on a very Silent Train so that kind of gave me more anxiety San Francisco is and then I was like okay let’s see if I can take any other flight so then I was looking up the flights and I saw a flight from 6:00 p.m. and there were still a decent amount of seats so I was like okay YOLO I got to book it or else I won’t be able to go I never expected a big train like this that heads to airport to be suspended at a random Tuesday afternoon but life is going to like punch you in the butt sometimes but I’m happy I got a flight [Music] foreign fore [Music] airport you have so I’m finally at my hotel and the hotel I both booked at is aaot or it’s because I don’t really need a big room and aaot tends to be in the cheaper side especially during the weekdays this room was 4600 Yen and it’s nice this is going to be a casual room tour I booked a single room so I don’t know why there’s two beds it’s going to make me feel a little bit lonely there’s the TV here and there’s water does this water have the face the president oh it does okay but this is the CEO of aahu every time I go here there’s always these water bottles with her face on it I don’t know I don’t think I want to look at her as I’m drinking there’s books about her the lamps and lastly the bathroom area n nothing spectacular they also have a public bath here so I’m probably going to take it at midnight so now that I’m at my hotel I’m going to leave my suitcase here and I’m going to go get dinner and I’m going to overcome my fear of jinghan so jinghan is lamb meat it’s one of the more popular dishes in Hokkaido so I first had this in Tokyo but because it tasted weird I just wasn’t interested in anymore but then I was like okay you know maybe I just didn’t eat the right one so today I’m going to find out to see if I actually like it or not if I don’t like it in hokido I probably just don’t like it in general [Music] [Music] look at that that’s so cool [Music] so I came back from a public bath in this hotel while I was just Shing in the bath I was like looking back at what happened today and I was like oh my God how did I deal with all of this at once I’m trying my best to be a more positive person because I’m not good at praising myself and thinking forward or like moving forward or moving on I’m going to try my best here and accept that just these random unfortunate incidents or things can just happen to anyone regardless of who they are and what situation they’re in and the only thing you can do from it is think about something good that actually happened from it and just move on so the good thing that happened today despite all of this mess is that I still got a flight to hokaido and I’m I’m here that’s all that matters so yeah and I also got to eat decent jingis Conan today so yeah I’m going to hope tomorrow will be a much much better day and I’ll see you then bye-bye good morning this is day two of my Hokkaido trip I hope today will be a much better day compared to yesterday so far it’s a good start the weather isn’t too bad it’s 4° right now and I’m only saying it’s not too bad because yesterday night was -2° that 6° difference between yesterday night and right now it just feels good so first I’m going to eat zangi for lunch which is hok star Fried Chicken I’m going to be completely honest I don’t know the specific difference between karag and zangi I will find out soon so after that I’m going to go to the Dr Clark statue area which was my grandpa’s favorite place and then I’m going to check into another hotel to get ready for the official hiodon dism concert oh God this so I used thread and I asked people what their favorite convenience store is and some people say sa more I was like where is that and they told me it’s like a Hokkaido only convenience store here it is I might go inside after eating so the place I’m going to is called po and it’s a Chinese restaurant so I was kind of confused because I thought it would be like a zangi restaurant apparently this place is known for the good zangi along with the Chinese food I said it was open on Google Maps but you can’t always trust that because it was actually closed so uh I don’t know what to do now uh I’m going to go to the Clark statue right now and then eat lunch after because I’m not that hungry anyway but before actually I’m just going to look around [Music] seart full details hot food section here that you grab on your own usually you ask the staff at Family water 71 for this you don’t grab it on your own and there’s the vento there’s one too oh here’s Z I can eat here instead I can eat this one instead I guess oh and here’s the street train so this is the new one and the older looking one and the one that passed by is the newer one I’m trying to find a way to film and while zooming in with one hand because I’m holding my suitcas but I think that’s the older street car I can’t like focus on it right now I think it had some hatsun Miku logo on it uh I’m not sure made it to the subway station I just got to head down over here is it automatic enough to open it for me thank you so much so I missed my train station because I was looking up where to read because of that I’m going to miss the bus that comes like once every hour so I’m in like the middle of nowhere right now and I just gave up and decided to take a taxi there instead it’s going to be kind of costly but it’s better than waiting an hour and a half and things happen it’s [Music] life well I am here at the Dr Clark statue viewing area uh the taxi ride wasn’t really cheap it was 2700 Yen uh that’s what happens when you are not responsible and you just glaze off on your phone but the view is very nice and there’s not many people probably because it’s a Wednesday afternoon someone built a random Snow I don’t know if that counts as a snowman but it’s it is there [Music] that’s it so [Music] damn all right so I am here at my second hotel and this is the same exact room layout as the hotel I stayed at before and they’re both UPA Hotel so I really don’t think I should do a room tour so I’ll be doing my hiyan things until the end of the day and I’ll make a separate video about that so make sure to check it out in the link in the description when it’s out all right so I’ll see you guys tomorrow bye-bye all right good morning this is the third day of my Hokkaido trip so my flight back to Tokyo is at 8:30 p.m. so I do have quite a lot of time I don’t know if I want to do a lot of stuff though because I walk 20,000 steps yesterday I’m kind of exhausted I think the important part of trips is to not force yourself to do so many things in one day every single day there should be times where you should relax and rest so this part will be a little bit more spontaneous so I’ll just like walk around and look at Google Maps to see if what I can do the main thing I want to go to is the sushi restaurant because hokido is known for good seafood so I’ll be going to a store called toon hopefully it’s not too crowded because it’s a Thursday afternoon [Music] so I’m at the sushi place over here uh but there is 37 groups waiting before me so the staff told me it’s going to take about an hour and a half for me to get seated good news is they have this uh line notification system where they’ll notify you online when your number is about to come up so I can just go around kill time do other things and then come back here to eat the first thing I want to do is uh leave my suitcase in a locker room because I don’t want to be carrying this all day so I’ll be going somewhere nearby saoto station to do that it took me around 10 minutes to get to saoto station to drop off my lugage at the coin locker but it’s still 30 groups before me so I’m probably going to have to wait for a while so I think the first thing I’m going to do is go look at the overall City View at this place called Jr Tower I was going to go to m MOA with the ropeway I saw the price it was like both ways will be 2100 Yen and it’ll take me 20 minutes from here to get there so I don’t think I’ll have much time to do that now also put my laptop in my suitcase so it’s in the locker room right now oh and my back feels way lighter compared to before one of the biggest regrets I have over buying my laptop was choosing a pro over um what is that called air air arrow is much lighter and I don’t really need like those High functions that I don’t know much about so I should have just chosen the light one with the air I have a Starbucks on the left side and then these blue illumination lights I do want some coffee though but I’m not sure when should I eat coffee eat why did I should I drink coffee before eating sushi or after eating sushi okay here I am J are Tower Oh I thought it was 600 Yen it’s 740 Yen the heck oh well all right got the ticket and the map and uhoh I guess I just got to go here alone usually at these type of Observatory decks there’s a staff that would take you up for this one I guess you go on your own oh here you go 38 6 37 38 I think as of 2023 this is the highest building so if you want to see A View From a building this is the place to go it’s at the station anyways oh they have the name of different areas over here this is like a great combination of mountain and City I wish Tokyo was like this they also have a cafe section also no wonder they said don’t bring drinks and food they want to make money here all right I’m trying my best to make this look cinematic oh look at that ooh ooh so this is the m size it was 410 Yen and it’s might be hard to tell from this footage but it’s kind of small but it’s all right they they got to make money right what the heck this like the world’s cleanest bathroom right so I’m going to go back down and head over to the sushi area all right I’m back and they just notified that my seat is ready so perfect timing [Music] that is some really big tuna [Music] [Music] so this place was really good what surprised me the most was how big the fish was it was way bigger than longer than the rice usually it’s like the same size I only ate eight plates I usually get like 10 but because of the size eight was enough and I’m very satisfied now so I’m glad I came so the next area I want to go to is the susukino area I don’t really know much about this place so we’ll go see and find out what they have here go I just want to see that spot where they have like the the beer guys I don’t know where that is so I’m going to have to find him oh wait I was looking for it and it was right behind me over here so I thought this area is like the sapoto station area but it was actually susukino I just learned that sorry and there’s another place that I want to go here around here and it’s like a Shen guys what is that a shopping district oh they have the world’s famous Ramen here look ichiran people that wait an hour and a half for this Ramen I actually found something interesting what is this is that Santa Claus I I I have no idea but that is definitely not Santa Claus so yeah he’s saving her and I have no idea what’s going on but you don’t normally see this on a random building in the middle of the city all right I’m here so I think we’re in the middle of the shopping district so I don’t know which way to go first let’s just go from the right side so this will be a good place to go if it’s super snowy or rainy because there’s this roof on the top they have Ramen stores on the right side and then K here Cafe Game Center OH another k cut Club Place 7even gust this might just be like a normal shopping district okay I’m going to be honest even if I go further there I don’t know what’s there and it’s probably just like random stores there’s Loft Sony so I I I’m not going to eat anything or shop anything so I don’t know if I should stay here so there’s a street train here in front of me so I don’t know where this goes but I’m going to try riding so I just got off the street car because it just pretty much Goes Around in Circles it’s pretty cheap it was 120 y regardless of the distance and you can pay with a cash or IC card which is very convenient so I’m just going to go straight here which leads to the main old park and then the Sao TV tower I think you can kind of see over here there’s the tower over there oh my mic was still on okay uh oh the last place I want to go to is the Sao Clock Tower and apparently this is one of the most disappointing tourist spots in Japan [Music] so I’m here behind the Tokyo Clock Tower and I pretty much did everything that I wanted to do here so I I think I think I’m done I will go to the airport now [Music] [Music] spee me so [Music]

  1. Sorry to hear about your grandfather. He definitely would've been very proud that you went to visit the statue in his honour. But I think if I was picking a time to go to Hokkaido, I'd do it when it's a bit warmer. 😄

  2. 16:09 lmao i just imagined myself peeing here and having this view 🤣
also, i never knew you could get to sapporo by bullet train. i heard you mention the Skyliner! i always assumed you could only get there by ferry/plane.
    thank you for the video!

can i ask what do you do for work in Japan?

  3. That was a really fun trip (as a viewer lol), including all the unexpected chaos and feels. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Yes, things don't work out as planned, but you made it to sapporo. Sapporo looks awesome when there is more snow around. Have you been to Hill of Buddha or the historical village of Hokkaido. The best place in Susukino to watch the trams go by is at MacDonald's upstairs. I'll have to visit that sushi place when I'm there.

  5. really interesting video!
it seems you put more work on this video then the others, have a good week!

  6. I love the positive attitude you had regarding the train/plane debacle. Really enjoying your videos. Thank you for all your hard work!

Also, I’m so sorry for the loss of your grandfather.

  7. ironically, the day my mom and I were supposed to go to Sapporo last month, the Skyliner was working just fine– it was the flight that was canceled because of a snowstorm 😅 all in all our day was just like five hours on the train since I live so far from Narita. so it really can always be worse man lol

  8. Fantastic video showing that when life punches you in the butt (ROFL) you can still make things work and have an enjoyable trip. Hokkaido is an amazing place (heaps of interesting trains too) and I'm glad you got to pay respect to your grandfather.
That urinal with a view at Sapporo JR Tower is famous on the internet! Similar ones at the mall attached to Hakata Station but not as high above ground.
Seicomart is amazing, their hot food is way better than 7-11 etc.

  9. I'm sorry you lost your grandfather, it sounds like you took very good care of him and I'm sure he is eternally grateful you spent his final years together, wherever he is now.

  10. Having been to Sapporo, I can say with certainty that Google Maps is absolutely useless there. I got lost at least a couple of times walking through that city.

  11. Something similar happened on my end except it was Kansai and with the Haruka. It was facing strong winds and so slowed to a halt. I think a lot of people missed their flight including a friend of mine.

On the small chance that you'll reply, may I know what exactly did you do to fix the situation? Was it just a case of buying a fresh ticket and using JR's (Or whichever operator) letter of delay to claim the insurance?

  12. OMG! You calculated the risk of taking the airport train? What are you, an actuarial scientist? lol Great videos!

  13. I don't know if you know but 'Be Ambitious' is famously used in the chorus of Ambitious Japan, the (former) theme song of JR Central

  14. Thanks for sharing Japan with us through your eyes. I’ve enjoyed watching all of your videos, they’ve brought me joy and given me lots of ideas for my next visit.

Your grandpa seems like he was a great person, thank you for sharing some of his memory with us as well.

Hope your family is well, and you keep doing things you enjoy!

  15. I am sorry for the loss of your grandfather. I hear you on holding your emotions in at the funeral; sometimes we have the feeling that we need to be strong for the other members of our family, or sometimes we haven't had a chance to process the loss enough to be emotional. I am glad you gave yourself this moment to let that happen in a place that meant so much to him, and got to honor him with memories of a good time you shared together. 💙

  16. This video made me think of a great song about Hokkaido, Shakushain — Wednesday Campanella and you also mentioned my Kami Hatsune Miku!

  17. As a UMass student who started watching your videos a few weeks ago, this video was very interesting! Dr Clark was a foundational figure for UMass. However, he is mostly forgotten, though we do have a memorial for him which mentions his involvement with Hokkaido University, but I didn't know he was like a well-known figure. Thanks for sharing!
