Mt. Nokogiri Hike #travel #chiba #japan #千葉

how can you get to the top of this mountain near Tokyo when this ropeway closes for repairs take the hiking trails like we did of course hiking is always more fun with some friends so a bunch of us met at the Jr train station and hiked up the shikimi trail to the top of Mount nidi this Historic Trail was cut centuries ago by laborers who carried huge slabs of stone down the mountain trail eventually leads to the sheer vertical Cliff faces Mount nidi is known for which are the remnants of an elaborate stone cutting operation dating back to Japan’s etet period next we reached the grounds of the honi Temple where we paid respects to the Buddhist goddess of mercy and enjoyed A View From the famous glimpse into hell there’s also a great Stone Buddha we didn’t have time to see but we did have a chance to try the bamboo charcoal vanilla ice cream before heading back to the train station Mount nidi makes for a great day trip from Tokyo and you can get here by Train by taking the Jr lines to hamak Kanaya station or the Tokyo Bay ferry from Kiama

Mt. Nokogiri makes for a one-of-a-kind day trip adventure from Tokyo with its stunning seaside views, mind-blowing sheer vertical cliffs, and historic Buddhist sites. Although many visitors opt to ride the Nokogiriyama Ropeway to the mountaintop, this cable car occasionally needs to be shut down for repairs, with the next scheduled maintenance occurring from January 14 to February 14, 2025. Luckily in our opinion, the easily-accessible hiking trails are the best way to experience this unique mountain. You can access the trails by taking the JR train lines to Hama-Kanaya Station or by taking the Tokyo Bay Ferry from Kurihama.

  1. Arrive very early at the Sharikimichi trailhead. Carry lots of water. Be mindful that the climb, in parts of the trail is definitely not for the weak. Pack good raingear as the weather can change in an instant.
