There are several spots where you can see Mount Fuji from the train window, but the view from the section between Shimoyoshida and Gekkōji is absolutely the best. The morning sunlight makes Mount Fuji look even more beautiful. Getting up early was totally worth it 🙂 First, let’s visit the most famous Mount Fuji viewing spot—Arakurayama Sengen Park! The area around Mount Fuji is crowded with tourists from Japan and abroad. I hope to explore it efficiently. Mount Fuji, bathed in the morning light, looks so divine! This iconic Japanese scenic spot is located on the mid-slope of Arakurayama. First, let’s pay our respects at Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine. There are hardly any other visitors here. It’s such a pleasant morning. Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine is a historic shrine said to have been founded in 706. The breathtaking view is just ahead. I heard this staircase has 398 steps :‐o The first thing that came into view is the five-story pagoda. The observation deck is just around the corner. This spot became one of Japan’s iconic locations after it appeared on the cover of the Michelin travel guide. It’s a place Japan is truly proud of. Next to the five-story pagoda are cherry blossom trees, so in spring, you can enjoy the combination of cherry blossoms, the pagoda, and Mount Fuji. Even without the cherry blossoms, it’s still stunningly beautiful like this. The term “snow makeup” is used to describe when something is beautifully covered in snow. Mount Fuji’s snow makeup is truly magnificent. It’s so beautiful, it takes your breath away. I could gaze at this view forever, but it’s time to head to our next destination—Lake Kawaguchi. The area around Lake Kawaguchi is also famous for its excellent views of Mount Fuji. Today, Mount Fuji is clearly visible. In winter, there are many days when you can see such spectacular views of Mount Fuji. You can even see it clearly from far away in Tokyo. Even an ordinary road feels special when Mount Fuji is in sight. While leisurely watching Mount Fuji, I ended up taking the wrong path to the station… Meanwhile, the train I was supposed to catch left without me :‐o But I got a great view of the train and Mount Fuji, so I guess it’s okay 🙂 This is the correct path. I’m taking the train from Shimoyoshida to Lake Kawaguchi. The Shimoyoshida station building was designed by a famous designer. Also, at Shimoyoshida Station, there’s a preserved “Thomas Land” train with illustrations of Thomas the Tank Engine. It’s a vehicle that used to run in the past, now on display. The next train is about to arrive. It takes about 15 minutes from Shimoyoshida to Lake Kawaguchi. Arriving at Lake Kawaguchi Station. The new Thomas train was just departing. “Safe travels :)” Now I’ll transfer to a bus to head towards Lake Kawaguchi. It’s about 30 minutes to the final stop, “Kawaguchiko Natural Living Center.” You can also get a great view of Mount Fuji from the bus window. We’re approaching Lake Kawaguchi. Around the lakeside, you can enjoy seasonal plants, including cherry blossoms and autumn foliage. We’re almost at the final stop. I’m getting hungry, so it’s time for lunch! This is the “Fuji Oishi Hana Terrace,” a place for gourmet food and shopping. Depending on the season, you can spend time here while admiring a variety of colorful flowers. There are cafes and craft shops with ties to Yamanashi Prefecture, and the buildings are designed to resemble traditional storehouses. The only store in the facility with a second floor. I’ll be having lunch at this restaurant! From the terrace seats, you can see the majestic Mount Fuji! It’s the perfect location 🙂 I ordered a margherita pizza and coffee. The pizza is freshly baked in a wood-fired oven. It’s amazing to enjoy such a wonderful view while eating! In addition to pizza, their freshly baked croissants are also popular. The terrace seating is fantastic, but even from inside the café, you can still enjoy a great view of Mount Fuji through the windows. Specializing in processed products using fruits from Yamanashi Prefecture I’ve been looking forward to trying the parfait at this place. Their parfaits, made with seasonal fruits, are really popular. The warm wooden interior gives the café a cozy atmosphere. I’m having their most popular “Snow Peach Parfait” 🙂 It’s a luxurious parfait made with a whole, juicy peach. This parfait is a limited menu item — only 5 are available on weekdays, and 10 on weekends. What an amazingly delicious peach 🙂 Inside, there’s peach ice cream and compote. The flavors change as you eat. Overall, it’s quite sweet. It made me crave some coffee. The weather is really nice today. The occasional breeze feels refreshing. The lush, green natural garden is so soothing. Western-style confectionery café of Kikyoya, a famous confectionery maker in Yamanashi Prefecture. The dried flowers and interior decor create such a lovely atmosphere. You can also get a great view of Mt. Fuji from inside the café. Time flowed slowly here, making it a really relaxing place. Let’s head down closer to the lake. By the time it was past noon, lots of tourists had gathered to enjoy this spot. Let’s go buy some souvenirs before heading back. I had planned to stay longer, but the crowds tired me out… let’s head back early. Kawaguchiko Station is also bustling with people… I’m in a hurry to find somewhere to rest before my train arrives. Luckily, I found a nice café near the station. Mt. Fuji Amazing View Café The fees depend on how long you stay. The view from the rooftop terrace was amazing! There was nothing to block the view — just perfect! They even provide equipment for taking photos. You can borrow traditional Japanese umbrellas too. I had no idea such a great place existed so close to the station! The view from the café on the third floor was also stunning. While you’re here, all snacks, meals, and drinks are free. They even had a wide variety of traditional Japanese sweets. From manju to senbei, there was so much to choose from. They even had onigiri shaped like Mt. Fuji. There was also spaghetti Napolitan and curry. And free drinks too! They even had manga books. Enjoying food while taking in the beautiful scenery! Such a cute Mt. Fuji-shaped onigiri 🙂 The staff were so kind, and the service was top-notch! I stumbled upon this café by chance, but I’m fully satisfied with how cozy it was. Now, it’s time to catch my train back. There’s a rare train stopped at the platform. This time, I took a day trip to fully enjoy Mt. Fuji. I feel like the amazing view of Mt. Fuji gave me a boost of energy. I hope that the Mt. Fuji energy reaches all of you watching as well! Thank you so much for watching until the end 🙂
