For the Christmas holidays, we treated ourselves to a night in Rioan in Chichibu. Unfortunately, we spent the first 5 days of Christmas stuck in bed with the flu like many others this year. So, we were really looking forward to soaking in the onsen, breathing in the fresh mountain air, and just having a relaxing night of sleep in the countryside. As soon as we arrived, the Rioan shuttle bus was waiting to take us on a 15-minute ride to our accommodations. [Music] [Music] It will take me [Music] today. [Music] Once we arrived, we choose our Yuketa color, which will be the only thing we will wear for the next 24 hours. [Music] [Music] Then one of the staff members guided us around showing us where to find the four private onen and taking us to our room for the night. [Music] The Rioan is owned by Miyamoto Kazuki, the 12th head of the Miiamoto family, who also happens to be a former sumo wrestler. His family has been farming for over 300 years and they have turned the historical home into a cozy rioan that only accommodates six groups a day. The property which dates back to the end of the Edo period is surrounded by a quiet countryside offering the perfect peaceful retreat away from the city. [Music]

part 1 – For Christmas, we treated ourselves to a night in a ryokan in Chichibu 🎄 After spending the first five days of the holidays sick in bed, we were more than ready to soak in the onsen, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and enjoy a peaceful night of sleep in the countryside.

The ryokan shuttle picked us up for a short 15-minute ride 🚐 Once we arrived, we chose our yukata colours—our outfit for the next 24 hours—and were guided to our room, with a tour of the four private onsens along the way.

The ryokan belongs to Miyamoto Kazuki, the 12th head of the Miyamoto family and a former sumo wrestler 🏯 His family has been farming for over 300 years, and their Edo-period home now welcomes just six groups a day, offering the perfect countryside escape.
