Today we will talk about Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Yasugi City. I heard that local students visit every year on a school field trip. This is probably because you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and fresh air when you climb to the top of this mountain . Even if you go by car or bus, there is no parking lot at the temple, so you will have to get off at a parking lot far away. There isn’t, so you have to walk to the top. I think the food stalls were operating here because it was New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Kiyomizu-dera was built in 587 by the Shonin Shonin to ward off evil spirits. Kiyo is the German word for unsullied and pure mizu, which means water. Therefore, Kiyomizu means pure water. This temple was founded. Until then, there was no water in this area. In order to obtain water, Takaryu Shonin prayed to God, and a week later underground water came out. This water was so clear and pure that this temple was built. It came to be called Shimizu.There are 108 steps in the staircase.The number 108 means that humans have 108 earthly desires, such as jealousy, anger, stupidity, etc.Climbing the 108 steps will drive away earthly desires. Therefore, it is difficult to reach the destination, so you have to concentrate on climbing the stairs.There is a Japanese restaurant on the way up.You can eat vegetarian vegetarian cuisine.Shojin means to focus and sharpen your mind. In Buddhism, animals are not allowed to be killed. Eating harsh vegetables, such as garlic, causes anger and greed. Therefore, Buddhist monks are prohibited from eating such foods. Therefore, they only eat vegetables, beans, tofu, and fruits. Shimizu yokan is a very famous sweet that has been around for 100 years, and is also a vegetarian dish.There are four yokan shops in this temple.As I was taking photos, I received a pamphlet from the person at the Shimizu yokan shop .
