Hello, it’s been a while since I’ve been to Taichung ! After the busy summer season, I returned to Taiwan for the first time in five months. It seemed like a long time , but it flew by. Soon after I arrived , I dropped something… Show me the ticket! This trip was a bit of a mess… After arriving at Taoyuan International Airport, I took a late-night bus about 140km south. I’m currently on my way to Taichung. I’m using an eSIM again this time. I’ve been using Airalo’s eSIM for the past three years because I love its fast connection and stable connection . Let me take you back in time a bit. Yes, I’m back at home. Tomorrow, I’ll purchase and activate the Airalo eSIM digital SIM card I use every day for my trip to Taiwan . It’s easy to use in over 200 countries and regions , and I love the peace of mind of knowing my phone will connect the moment I arrive . First, find an internet or Wi-Fi connection and download the Airalo app from the App Store (if you have an iPhone) . Create an account by registering your personal information and credit card details in your profile . Select your destination country from the store. I’m Taiwan. I usually purchase 2GB of storage for a 3-night, 4-day trip in Taiwan, since I always have Google Maps running while walking around and also use hotel Wi-Fi. You can easily check your remaining storage and purchase more during your trip, so it’s convenient. Activate your purchased eSIM by following the instructions on the My eSIM screen . Select Next to proceed . Activation may take a few minutes. Once complete, give your newly purchased eSIM a clear name. I’m planning to travel to Taiwan this weekend. Now you’re ready. The purchased eSIM is listed under Settings, Mobile, and SIM. Yes, I’ve just boarded a plane. Before turning on airplane mode, I turn off my usual mobile data line in Settings. Now that I’ve arrived in Taiwan and airplane mode is disabled, I switch to the eSIM. Go to Settings, Mobile, and turn on the eSIM line I activated previously. I also turn on data roaming. The 5G signal immediately appeared, and I was able to connect to the local carrier . I tried opening my channel, and it connected successfully. The Airalo eSIM solved the hassle of swapping in a small physical SIM card on the plane and the worry of late-night arrivals and not being able to find a SIM card store. It connected instantly. It was incredibly easy and convenient, allowing me to make the most of my travel time . Download the app here. Use promo code Hani to get $3 off your first eSIM purchase. For example, a 2GB Taiwanese plan costs just $4, and that’s all you need for local data. Avoid expensive roaming charges. Be sure to check it out. I arrived in Taichung at 1:03 AM, in the middle of the Mid-Autumn Festival in early October. It’s already cool in Japan, but the moment I disembarked, I was greeted by the 90% humidity and heat of Taiwan, which made me grin. There were no windows, but since I was only going to sleep, it was a shame to waste it. It was a four-minute walk from the Taichung Station bus stop, and the front desk was open 24 hours a day. It seemed perfect for a solo late-night arrival. There was juice in the fridge. ✨ The first thing I wanted to do upon arriving in Taiwan was… I made a donation to Hualien, which was hit hard by the floods, through a convenience store terminal. It’s a small amount, but I hope it will help with the recovery effort. The convenience store was conveniently located across from my hotel . I’ll eat this and go to bed tonight. I was incredibly grateful to be able to make donations like this right here in Hualien. It was cash-only. My first day in Taiwan feels routine , and I still have dry eyes. I couldn’t sleep that night. It looks like it’s going to be super hot this morning. Thank you. This is Taichung Station. I headed to the outside floor of the common area where I left my luggage at my accommodation . 🌲🌿 What is this oasis…?! I’ll come back here tonight. I took the bus to eat breakfast at Taichung City Second Market, a place I missed last time. In the muggy heat and no air conditioning, the space was packed with delicious food . So, what should I eat here? A marketplace with a mix of food, restaurants, and clothing . A typical Taiwanese scene : a temple suddenly appears, and rows of shops , from retro establishments to new restaurants , lined the streets, making me walk around it several times. I discovered the famous Shanhe Lu Rou Fan. There was a line. I decided to eat at the restaurant across from the popular restaurant, where the simmering braised pork was everywhere . Taichung’s Lu Rou Fan. I had the braised pork belly and bamboo shoot soup. Speaking of Taichung’s Lu Rou Fan, this is the place. The thick braised pork belly in a light broth was a perfect match for the soft rice, which fell apart easily with a spoon. The braised pork belly was lightly seasoned, a little underwhelming to eat with rice, but the sweetness of the pork fat and the flavor of the ingredients were palpable. The bamboo shoots in the soup were very soft and gentle. I enjoyed the Lu Rou Fan in a hot and humid market. It wasn’t exceptionally delicious , but I was once again sweating after enjoying Taichung’s Lu Rou Fan. Thank you for the Taichung specialty. It’s so hot that even waiting for a bus is unbearable, so I use Uber. This area, originally a group of Air Force technician dormitories, was built in the 1960s. The blend of historical architecture and modern use is a highlight. On a hot summer vacation, it feels like you’ve traveled back in time to old Taiwan, looking at photographs and records of the people who once lived there. You can also purchase retro glasses, postcards, and photographs from that time. A former barber shop has been recreated and is open for business. The heat and retro atmosphere are dizzying, as are the historical items and photographs of the Air Force. This space evokes a special sense of Taiwan’s history and significance. Since it’s hot, I’ll have shaved ice. The long, thin grass jelly, pineapple, red bean, and mung bean flavors are delicious . It was a wonderful way to cool down in the 34°C Taichung temperature. I visited Paojue Zen Temple, a temple with deep ties to Japan, built in 1927 during the Japanese colonial period . Wow, it’s huge. A large Maitreya Buddha statue stands there. It’s so big , and there was no one there, so I had it all to myself. Within the temple, there is a Japanese mortuary where remains of Japanese people who died in Taiwan and Taiwanese Japanese soldiers who fought in World War II are enshrined. On the way back, we took a bus to the hotel. The bus felt like a sauna. I was the only one sweating, like I had a shower head on my head. I wonder why the Taiwanese people weren’t sweating? Maybe it’s the Mid-Autumn Festival, but I see the national flag a lot . I checked in. It’s no exaggeration to say that half of the reason I came to Taichung was to stay at this hotel . The single bed space, separated by a curtain, is equipped with a mug, tissues, and an electrical outlet. The shared toilet and shower are in the middle of the room, and I share it with another guest staying on the other side. It’s absolutely fantastic. The room is quite spacious . Taichung Station can be seen from the common area . After a short rest, I headed to Taichung’s local night market. As the sun went down in the evening, the market began, taking over as people finished work . Is that a frog?! I joined the locals who had come for dinner, and we decided on what to eat. At a delicious xiaolongbao restaurant, I ordered small, meat-like xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) wrapped in a thick, fluffy skin and filled with tender minced pork. The waiter poured soy sauce into a small dish, to which I added vinegar. There was no soup, but the pork was very juicy. I quickly devoured delicious xiaolongbao at a local restaurant in the evening. I discovered another restaurant with a long line of customers. It seemed to be popular for its rice cakes. I was in the mood for rice flour, so I ordered the thick broth with rouzao (rouzao) rice flour. It was quite a generous portion, topped with chives, bean sprouts, fried onions, and rouzao ( rouzao ). The flavor was quite light, but the underlying sweetness of the fatty meat in the broth stood out, making it delicious without being overpowering. I love the thick broth. The rougentan (rouzao) had minced fish dumplings and a spicy seasoning. It was packed with ingredients like enoki mushrooms and bamboo shoots. It had a sweet flavor, and I personally like to add vinegar. Even if I’m full, I absolutely have to eat this. On weekends, the night market starts to get really lively . The scenery and excitement can only be experienced in Taiwan, it’s wonderful. I returned to the hotel early and spent some time relaxing in the common area. I decided to write messages from guests from many countries . I really liked this hotel. After a bit of editing, I decided to go to that oasis. Making videos while working is busy, but it’s one of my favorite times, and before I knew it, two and a half hours had passed that day. Now, it’s time for today’s fun. While enjoying a Taiwanese beer, the only thing that doesn’t give me a headache even with a migraine, I reflect on the day and think about various things happening in my daily life . Ultimately, I realize how happy I am to be in Taiwan. Before going to bed, I look at the things I bought today. I wonder how many glasses I’ll buy in Taiwan. lol I bought some because of the packaging, and I also bought some cute moisturizing cream. 😊 Even in Taiwan, I’m a night owl, so good night sleep. I slept so well last night . It’s 33 degrees this morning, but I decided to try a delicious-looking breakfast spot in my neighborhood. I’m looking forward to the delicious food, but also the retro interior. The simple menu and retro-style interior… As soon as I sat down, they brought out Set 1: egg, meatballs, rice cake, and broth soup. This soup might just be the winner of this trip. I chose the light, minced meat braised braised rice dish. The gentle flavor of the rice and broth made my heart warm even more, even in the heat of the day . The meatballs and eggs are made with the same broth as the braised braised rice. The energetic waiter gave me energy in the morning, and as soon as I finished the soup, I was given a refill. A delicious breakfast in Taichung. It was a feast. It was so hot! I went back to the hotel and enjoyed some chilled Taiwanese tea. Thank you, Taiwanese tea! I’ll definitely drink the Taiwanese Family Mart tea series with revitalizing tea leaves . I wanted to relax, but I checked out and went for a walk in Taichung . Thank you, Norden Ladder. Wait, here I was, realizing I hadn’t paid at the restaurant I’d just been to . An attempted burger … Oh, thank goodness. The waiter was so kind. I was glad I paid properly. I’m so sorry. I’ll be careful. I walked around Taichung to calm myself down . After walking through the scorching heat of Taichung , I ended up here. The honey cheese was sweet and milky. I really love the Alishan oolong tea and Taiwanese tea flavor. The atmosphere of the old Taichung Station is wonderful, no matter how many times I see it . I hope these old Taiwanese buildings remain cherished as they are. Thank you, Taichung!! Actually, I had forgotten my suitcase at the hotel and was heading to Taipei empty-handed… I booked a reserved seat online on the Tze-Chiang Express to Taipei for 500 NTD/2,400 JPY. I was safely seated and was supposed to enjoy some window-view time from Taiwan, but… On the way, the conductor called out to me and said that my seat was wrong. I thought I was in car 3, but it was actually car 2. Luckily, he told me it was fine as I was, but I wondered what he was doing… I’ve really done a lot on this trip… I hate to say it myself, but I’m usually pretty organized, but this time something seemed strange . Today’s accommodation is also a place I’ve always wanted to stay at: a hostel with a large space for one person, similar to the one I stayed at inside Taoyuan Airport. Today’s castle : With its high ceilings and quiet space, I’ve arranged my belongings in a way that’s comfortable for me and created a secret base. There’s a large overhead storage compartment that can fit a carry-on-sized trunk, and it’s nice that it locks when you remove the card key . First, I’ll look for a YouBike . I haven’t really decided how to spend my time in Taipei, so I registered for a Youbike on the side of the road . I ‘m so overwhelmed I’m back! There’s no excuse for not trying these pickled plum tomatoes when I’m in Taipei. The chicken soup looks delicious, too. I was a little hesitant, but I’ll stick with my usual menu. I always pop in unexpectedly and luckily get a seat after a short wait, but they’re always fully booked, so I recommend making a reservation. I’m sorry that the video is always the same, but these beautifully peeled pickled plum tomatoes are so delicious I couldn’t leave without trying them. The spicy, rich wontons are also delicious, and I’ll be ordering them again . The xiaolongbao are, of course, consistently delicious. I think the xiaolongbao are best eaten whole, dipped in the sauce, and eaten as is. Everything was delicious, and before I knew it, the meal was over. It’s still hot in Taipei at dusk. I bought some souvenirs that I always buy. I’ll eat them during my work break (^-^). I looked for pineapple cake but couldn’t find one right behind it. I didn’t have what I wanted so I didn’t buy it this time. Before I knew it, it was night. This was all I found at the supermarket. I also bought some nougat for my mother. Is Taipei Station always this beautiful at night? This hostel has so many doors. Speaking of which, I put my Taiwanese transportation card on the back of my iPhone case and tried touching it, but it didn’t work properly 💦 I wonder if it will work if I turn off the card function on my iPhone? ? I bought some Taiwanese beer and headed to a night market I’ve never been to before. With a Taiwanese beer in hand, I arrived at Lingang Night Market on a Sunday night. I could hear Japanese people talking here and there. It seemed to be about 80% locals and 20% tourists. For now, I decided to buy some Taiwanese sausages and sausages. I was dazzled by the delicious things available . These were cute and I wanted them. Maybe potatoes? ? The small, local atmosphere is wonderful. Shrimp-kun is walking along to the Eurobeat. I wondered whether to eat it or not, and wandered around for about five times, and then I saw a suspicious person. This is a famous shop for warm dumplings and ice sweets. It’s so hot even at night , so I decided to eat shaved ice. I’ve always wanted to try peanut ice, which is smooth and has a rich peanut flavor. It’s also nice that it comes with warm, delicious sesame dumplings. We’ve run out of Taiwanese beer, so it’s time to call it a day. I ended the day with some chili balls. It was fun to visit a new place for the first time , but I regretted not having tried douhua, so I took an Uber. It was late at night , which is nice. My balance is running low, so I’d like to top up. I opened Airalo, checked My eSIM, and added 150MB, so I selected 1GB. Buy Now. It’s $4. Additional purchases are easy. That ‘s it. Download the app here. Use promo code Hani to get $3 off your first eSIM purchase! There’s no expiration date. Be sure to check it out. I ate some douhua while downloading videos. It’s nice and cozy in the common areas, even in a hostel! It was quiet enough that I could sleep without earplugs . I really wanted to try some Tainan food before heading home, so I went to a restaurant on Dihua Street. I’d love to be able to eat Tainan food in Taipei! As is so often the case in Taiwan, I can’t hide my sadness and excitement, so I’m off to Ni Hao Wo Hao . I bought this for everyone at work. Now, where should I go for my last Taiwanese meal before returning home? I’ve been thinking about this restaurant with a shrimp sign, and I wondered …?? I decided to go in and take a look . To be honest, I was a bit worried about the mixed reviews, but seeing is believing, so I ordered braised pork rice and deep-fried shrimp . I was excited to see what it would taste like . Despite its rich, dark brown color, the braised pork rice was quite light and sweet, but a little underwhelming. The shrimp, served with a sweet soy sauce-based sauce and mustard, were soft and crunchy when deep-fried. This was the best meal of the trip, truly delicious! Mom posed with a happy look. Thank you for the delicious breakfast in Dihua Street. It would be a shame to go home with such beautiful weather. I’ll buy that last thing at the airport today. Speaking of which, ever since I saw the Taiwanese movie Miss Shampoo, it has become my theme song for Taiwan . This time too, I’m limiting my carry-on baggage to 10kg . I had no problem with this food series keychain. I saved up last time and didn’t buy the tea egg, but this time I think I’ll get the green one. I’m glad that the weather is relatively clear when I come to Taiwan . I opened it right away and it’s so cute. In fact, I’m going to Taiwan again soon. Until then, I’ll be working, making vlogs, planning my next trip to Taiwan, and studying a little Chinese. 😅 Once again, Taiwan flew by so quickly. Thank you, Taiwan. 😘 See you soon! What should I eat next time? (^~^)
