Hello, it’s Oba. It’s October 24th, 2025, and I’m in Fukuura. You can see the entry gate clearly from this direction. The white building is Fukuura Diving Service. The shop I’m using today is “Diving Shop Umiya” and my guide is N-chan. Those of you who watched the previous video might think that this time we were supposed to go to Hachijojima, but the Hachijojima diving trip that was planned for 2 nights and 3 days from the 26th was cancelled due to the typhoons that hit Hachijojima twice in October. 💦 It seems recovery is not progressing very well . There are still some areas that are without water, and the inn I was planning to stay at is closed until the end of October, and it is not yet decided whether it will be able to reopen from November . To the people of Hachijojima, I know that these are difficult times, but I would love to visit you once life returns to normal ! Hmm! It seems they discovered something. It’s a “Narrow Tenrokukebori, a type of shellfish”, is this the thing that looks like it’s stuck in there? It’s hard to take pictures. 💦But even so, the weather has been a bit gloomy this fall. The weather on Izu Oshima in October was mostly rain! I’m a little disappointed because I thought autumn is the peak season for diving in Izu. What’s next? Oh! This time it’s a very visible flatworm. It looks like a wood ear mushroom. Today, the surface temperature is around 17°C, a bit chilly, probably because of the weather, but the water temperature is 23°C, which is quite warm . It seems the Kuroshio Current is coming in nicely. This shell is beautiful. Thanks to the Kuroshio Current, visibility has been over 15m every day. Today’s plan was originally to do a boat dive at “Iwa” in Manazuru, but due to the rain and wind, it was suddenly changed to Fukuura Beach. I’m glad we were able to get to Fukuura at the right time. Now, the biggest problem with my trip to Hachijojima being canceled is whether I’ll be able to use up my “Shimapo Currency.” “Shimapo Currency” is a premium accommodation travel voucher created by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government with the aim of attracting tourists. You can purchase 10,000 yen worth of Shimapo Currency for 7,000 yen . There are clownfish! The sea anemones are waving all over the place, making for a really confusing video! I bought 60,000 yen worth of Shimapo Currency when it went on sale in April. I had to buy it quickly, or it would sell out quickly. I also signed up for a special Tokai Kisen ferry tour from Enoshima to Oshima on June 26th, but then I got a call the day before from Tokai Kisen saying the ferry had been cancelled due to a typhoon. I got an email and a phone call too. Hey, N-chan, won’t you bite my hand? That moray eel’s acting like a puppy! It’s so close you could almost touch it , but you can’t. Oh, N-chan pulled away and put on an amazing performance on her second dive. I’ve included a bonus video at the end, so please take a look. Going back to Shimapo Currency, you need to use it within six months of the date of purchase, in my case, until November 14th. If my trip to Hachijojima is cancelled, I’m in trouble. I’ll have to apply elsewhere! After researching various shops, I found a dive shop on Shikinejima that looked good, and when I contacted them, they seemed willing to accept me, so I booked a hotel and a boat. My relief was short-lived, but then I discovered the dive shop didn’t accept Shimapo Currency! This was entirely my fault for not checking, so I sincerely apologized and canceled the trip. 💦 The next macro creature was a tiny three-spotted damselfish. There were loads of them on the edges too ! N-chan brought a little fish! Yay, so pretty ! What’s that? Wow ! Is it a curse god? It’s a striped damselfish . It’s gross, but beautiful! Huh? What kind of dinosaur? It was so sudden I didn’t know how to react, lol. The blue of the blue damselfish is vivid! After much effort, I managed to book a dive and accommodation in Miyakejima, so I will be heading there in the first week of November. Since the boat arrives at Miyakejima at 5am, I had to request an early check-in from the accommodation, and by the time I had finished all the arrangements, I was exhausted. 💦 I guess I wouldn’t have to go through all that trouble if I’d joined a tour from a shop. “Dwarf coral crabs and creepy crabs among the table coral.” Hmm, they’re completely invisible to the naked eye. It turned into a photo of me admiring N-chan’s nails. lol Hmm … I ‘d say my macro photography score was 2-3. Speaking of which, I’ve been getting a lot of questions in the comments section lately about what kind of mask I use, so I thought I’d share it with you . It’s nothing special, but this is a Cressi action mask. I removed the snorkel part and attached it to a snorkel set I bought nearly 20 years ago for about 1,500 yen. I prefer simple snorkels without splash guards. The connection between the camera housing and the mask looks like this. It attaches with a hex wrench. The screws come with the camera housing . GoPro housings also work. The Osmo housing can be attached without any problems. It’s a universal design. This is what it looks like when removed. I bought this Cressi action mask from the official Cressi Japan store four years ago, but it’s been out of stock for a while now. At the time, there was a special discount to celebrate the official store’s opening, and I remember buying it for under 10,000 yen instead of the regular price of 12,000 yen. I just searched online and was surprised to find it for 16,500 yen at a certain famous diving online store! Then I found it on Amazon for just under 10,000 yen. It was out of stock on Amazon until recently, but it’s now in stock. That’s all for the mask introduction! While we were doing this, the exit was getting closer. It was another fun dive today. At the rest area, someone from another dive shop treated us to homemade “fish soup” which was delicious ♪ Thank you very much. There were some waves so we decided on the right timing. Yes, we arrived safely and thank you for your hard work. Please also take a look at the bonus : Bonus: “Wait a moment.” This is the sandy area to the right of the entry area. There was supposed to be a school of bannerfish near the fishing reef but we couldn’t find any . However, the fish among them were also cute . During the briefing, N-chan said that if there were no bannerfish, she would bring some! But no way , I thought, and waited for a while . What? She really did bring some!!! It was like a lie lol. Surprising ! At the rest area, everyone praised N-chan, calling her the “child of the sea!”
