Anywhere is fine. Get off at any station that comes to mind and walk around the area. The moment you get off the train, your little journey begins, walking through an unfamiliar town. This time, I arrived at Izumi Tamagawa Station in Komae City, Tokyo. In the calm air that makes you feel the signs of spring, the first place I visited was Gyokusenji Temple, a small temple surrounded by flowers. I entered through the back door and went around to the front gate, but it was still tightly closed. I had no choice but to quietly leave the place. On the way, I found a vending machine selling braised pork and soup. It was a moment when I got a glimpse of the details of life. And then I arrived at the riverbed of the Tama River. Swallows were flying in the sky, and the cityscape of Kawasaki City spread out on the opposite bank. The birds’ voices, the sparkling river, the silence of no one around – all of these were the joys of a solo walking trip.
