Hello, I’m Umiko. I modified a tiny van for car camping with DIY and am traveling alone on the Izu Peninsula. Last time, after fishing, I moved to Shimoda and did car camping. This morning, I went straight to Shimoda Port after waking up. The purpose is this. I will go to Kozushima by this ferry. I remove the table and take out the folding bicycle. This time, I will travel around Kozushima with an electric assist bicycle. Originally, I planned to cross to Kozushima with the Suzuki Every, but the day of boarding was no vehicle transport. Ferry fare is 5,310 yen, bicycle fare is 1,800 yen (one way). First, I put the bicycle on the vehicle deck, get off the ship once, and then board again. The inside of the ship is clean and looks new. In the vending machine corner, you can buy soft drinks, alcohol, and cup noodles. Outdoor seats and smoking corner. This is the second-class cabin. First-class cabin and special second-class cabin look like this. Departure, it takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes to Kozushima. There are two ports where the ferry can enter Kozushima, and which one it docks at depends on the weather of the day. This time, it will dock at Tako Bay on the east side. We are getting closer to the island. Scenic spot: Kagami-ana, the black band-like appearance is a layer of obsidian. Mount Tenjo (527m), selected as one of the “100 Famous Flower Mountains” and “New 100 Famous Mountains of Japan”. Even before landing, there are many famous spots, and I’m already very satisfied. I go down to the vehicle deck and disembark with the bicycle. Arrived! The blueness of the sea is extraordinary. I’m hungry… I will move from the east side of the island where I am now to the west side where restaurants and inns are concentrated. Suddenly a steep slope, the terrain is very hilly. From the observation spot, I could see the ship I came on leaving. Since the center of the island is elevated, it was 15 minutes of uphill and then 15 minutes of downhill. Yocchare Center Cafeteria. The famous simmered golden eye snapper set meal is popular and already sold out, so I ordered the fish bowl set meal. The red one is striped bonito, the white one is butterfish. It’s delicious! And 1,000 yen is cheap, isn’t it? Thank you for the meal! The Daiso handlebar bag (550 yen), following the advice of a viewer, I attached it to the front and it turned out well. To the inn where I will stay tonight. I am going to stay at Yamashita Inn for 1 night and 2 days. I chose a plan with dinner and breakfast included, 1 night and 2 days for 13,750 yen. I’m looking forward to the bath, which is a natural hot spring. The hibiscus gives a tropical feel, it’s October but the island still has a summer vibe. By the way, car camping in parks or parking lots is prohibited on Kozushima. Even if you come with a camper, you must have a reservation at an inn or campsite. I have a place I want to go to right away. Senryo Pond on the south side of the island, I saw it on Google Maps and wanted to visit. The ups and downs are intense, and it’s tough without an assist-equipped bicycle. For those who love hill climbing, it might be heaven. Senryo Pond is partially connected to the sea, and it is said that in the past, they blocked this entrance to catch fish that came in from the sea. It was named Senryo Pond because a large amount of money could be earned overnight. In contrast to the calm inside, the open sea is raging. I heard we can go down to the bottom, but… There were stairs partway, and the route was easy to understand with markers on the rocky area beyond. There are many steep places, so it might be dangerous for small children. It is crowded with swimmers in the summer, but on this day in October, it was all to myself. The climate is good enough for swimming, and for those who want to travel leisurely avoiding crowds, traveling in October is quite nice. If you take a plane from Chofu (Tokyo), you can reach Kozushima in just 45 minutes. There are even toilets and showers, very considerate. It started raining, let’s go back to the inn and take a bath. By the way, Kozushima belongs to Tokyo, and the car license plate is “Shinagawa”. The rain stopped, the beach visible on the left is Maehama Beach. If there are waves, you can surf. A monument related to the gods of the Izu Islands and myths about water. I returned to the inn, let’s go to the bath right away. The hot spring was hot and felt good. It’s nice to be able to borrow a washing machine, detergent is 50 yen at the front desk. Kozushima is famous for its beautiful starry sky, but unfortunately, there are many clouds today, so stargazing seems difficult. Dinner time, a seafood-centered menu was laid out on the table. Tomorrow, I plan to return to Shimoda on the 14:10 ferry. I won’t know which port the return ferry will dock at until the day, so I have to check when I wake up tomorrow. Until the ferry time, I plan to explore the north side of the island. The Akasaki Promenade at the northern tip of the island looks very beautiful, so I aim to go there. There seem to be various attractions on the way to Akasaki Promenade, so I’m looking forward to it. I’ll video chat with Tatsuo and then go to sleep, good night. Good morning. It’s very sunny, it is a perfect day for cycling. The return ferry’s docking port was the same Tako Bay as the way there. The northern tip of the island I will visit today is about 4km from the inn (about 20 minutes by bicycle). Let’s go! There are many slopes, and the battery consumption of the electric assist bicycle is quite high. It should last for today. A spiral-shaped rock formed from rhyolite, “Uzumaki Rock”. A calm beach in a cove, Sawajiri Beach. The blueness of the sea is striking, and the relaxed atmosphere is soothing. The slope is intense. The downhill after crossing a mountain is exhilarating. Meppo Mountain, I can’t read the sign, but probably that protruding rock? Buttooshi Rock? What is this? I see, it’s called Buttooshi Rock because it goes all the way through to the other side. It is said that the hole was formed by wave erosion, quite powerful. Nagahama Beach. There are beautiful pebbles, but since it’s a sacred area, taking them home is not allowed. “Tatamiga Hana” where flat rocks spread out. The remains of the Nagumi Trolley, a disused trolley line used until around 1955. It is said that stone materials excavated from Mount Kanbe in front were transported by trolley and transferred to ships. You can learn about the situation at that time from the explanatory signboard. The destination, Akasaki Promenade, is getting closer. Finally arrived at the northern tip of the island! There were plenty of attractions along the way, and I enjoyed it. Speechless at the beauty. The well-maintained promenade makes it safe even for families with children. Is that Shikine Island visible over there? Seeing such a beautiful sea, I can’t help but swim. !!! The fish here are friendly and came close right away. So close, lol. It’s an underwater paradise. It was too amazing, thank you very much. It’s quiet today, but in summer it’s a very popular spot bustling with many people. If you don’t shift the timing, you probably can’t relax this much. There were multiple showers, and the toilets even had changing rooms. Coin lockers are not available, maybe they can only be used during the summer? While leisurely cycling, I aim for Tako Bay, where the return ferry departs. The weather suddenly changed. Soaked. It cleared up!! The greenery after the rain looks more vivid. Breathtaking view~ Traveling this island made me want to visit more remote islands. I found a small shrine. The gate is so small that I, at 156cm tall, have to crouch to pass through. I’m grateful to have been able to come to this island and travel safely without any accidents. Arrived at the port. My clothes dried, glad they were quick-drying material. There’s a spring right next to the port. Tako Spring, it’s very cold. I took a little, it’s delicious. I ran about 12km on both the first and second days, making the total distance for the 1-night, 2-day trip about 24km. It rained again while waiting for the ferry, the island’s weather seems to change easily. It was a 1-night, 2-day trip overwhelmed by spectacular views, and it was nice to be able to take my time and make detours since I was on a bicycle. The return fare is the same as the way there, ferry fare 5,310 yen, bicycle fare 1,800 yen. It takes about 2 and a half hours to Shimoda Port. I plan to do car camping near the port as I will arrive in Shimoda around 16:30. Thank you for watching up to here. Comment introduction. A comment from the previous video. From Purple Marble4. In the past, I went rock fishing around Kozushima by charter boat from Shimoda. Speaking of Kozushima, I remember you mentioned that Tatsuo’s father was assigned there as a teacher. That’s right. When I told Tatsuo, he was surprised. Thank you for remembering! There are fishing boats from Shimoda to Kozushima, aren’t there? The guide sign at Senryo Pond said it’s a good fishing spot. Thank you. From OnTheWayCarFix. I received a question about where to buy the rack inside the car. I made it by combining Erector pipes and mesh parts bought at Daiso (100-yen shop). I’ll put a link in the description, so please check it out. Thank you. From Kaeru.k. It was hot in October too, I’m worried if my favorite winter will come. Your fish dishes looked delicious, please catch a lot of fish. Thank you. I’m recording this audio in November, and I just recently returned to my hometown in Kumamoto Prefecture. Even though it’s November, Kyushu is still hot, I was surprised. it’s getting a bit colder in the Kanto area. It’s warm this year. You like winter, don’t you? I like summer, but since I started car camping, I’ve come to like winter. It’s a season to look forward to. Thank you. From Hiramasa. Have you gotten used to driving the Suzuki Every? I want to see you and Tatsuo catch a Kingfish. The pull of a kingfish is really amazing, you’ll be so surprised when you catch it that your stomach will hurt. I’ve gotten quite used to driving the Suzuki Every. At first, I was worried if it would be okay, but I’ve gotten used to it. The time when you’re used to it is the most dangerous, so I’ll continue to drive carefully. Kingfish. It looks a lot like a yellowtail, doesn’t it…? There must be something that only those who have caught it understand, which attracts so many anglers! Thank you. From Zen Channel. I moved from Yokohama, where I lived for many decades, to Obihiro in September this year. I used to surf in Shonan, but from now on I’ll surf in Hiroo and Kushiro. Thank you. You moved to Obihiro, didn’t you? In October, I traveled to Hokkaido with Tatsuo and also went to Obihiro. It will be a while later, but I will upload the Hokkaido trip on the main channel. I haven’t surfed in Hokkaido yet. Thank you. The continuation of this trip will be released in the video after next. After this, I will return to Shimoda and surf. Please look forward to it. That’s it for this time, thank you for watching.

  9. Umiko-chan, your videos are so very beautiful! The panorama views are breathtaking and I, especially enjoy the underwater scenes that are amazing, with such beautiful fish and other creatures and plants! So very well shot and edited. Thank you! 🙇🏻‍♂🙇🏻‍♂

  21. Thank you for always showing your whereabouts and planned routes (cities/towns), names of places/activities with prices. 👍🏼 I’m new to your videos (binge watching since yesterday). You’re a very adventurous and active young lady.
