혼자서도 알찬 2박3일 강릉여행 🌊 바다 따라 낭만 기차여행, 바다부채길, 초두부, 짬뽕물회, 옥수수크림라떼, 전통차체험, 옹심이칼국수

Hi everyone~! Looks like it’ll be evening by the time I arrive in Gangneung. So I’m just gonna grab some snacks at the Gangneung Central Market, and eat them at my accommodation. Gotta wake up early tomorrow so, I’m planning to kick off my trip in the morning. Alright, shall we head to Gangneung together~! Arrived at Gangneung Central Market! On weekend evenings, there’s a night market in front of the Central Market at Wolhwa Street. But since it’s a weekday evening, it’s super chill today. Loaded with yummy eats at the Central Market, I packed a serving of squid sundae to bring back to my place. Squid sundae Let’s give it a try. Apparently, it tastes even better with green onion kimchi. This is not just any squid sundae—it’s nurungji squid sundae with bits of rice. The fresh, spicy flavor of the green onion kimchi goes so well with the squid sundae. Jeongdongjin Station in Gangneung is the train station closest to the sea, so it’s even listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. Since you can see the ocean right outside the train window, I’m going to take a train just to get to Jeongdongjin Station. And there’s a walking trail called ‘Jeongdong Simgok Sea Fan Trail’ over there. You get to walk right alongside the sea on this trail. I really want to try walking there. So tomorrow, I’m planning to take the train and go to Simgok Sea Fan Trail. Since I have to wake up early, I’m gonna eat this and head to bed soon. So the first night in Gangneung, I ate my squid sundae and crashed early. My beloved Gangneung Station, it’s been a while. Hopping on the ITX-Ma-eum train. If you sit in seat D, you can catch an awesome view of the sea up close. (Quick breakfast: triangle kimbap) Passing through green fields, and through factories and villages, Ta-da! The sea appears! The ocean is really close, right? Arrived at Jeongdongjin Station in just 15 minutes! Isn’t it crazy how close the sea is? This place is famous for sunrise spots—so they even put up the sunrise time. From Jeongdongjin Station to the Sea Fan Trail ticket booth is 1.5km. If you walk slowly by the ocean for about 20 minutes, you’ll just end up right there. The entry fee is 5,000 won, and there’s a discount for local residents, so make sure to check if you can get the discount! Let’s head down the deck road that runs right above the water. Walking with the waves crashing below, and looking at all these amazing rock formations made over time. I keep stopping because the view is so pretty—I’m just taking videos and gushing over it. I can’t move forward at all… LOL (In awe) The cloudy sky is starting to clear up, and finally the clear blue-green color of the East Sea is coming out. From Jeongdong ticket booth to Simgok Port is about 3km, I started from Jeongdong but you can also do it the other way, starting from Simgok and coming toward Jeongdong. But since there are a bunch of stairs, I recommend starting at Jeongdong! hehe (If you start at Simgok, you have to climb these stairs) ..Like this.. Lost in the scenery, I walked and before I knew it, I arrived at Simgok Port! (Bus schedule back to Jeongdongjin) (Sweaty mess) From here in Simgok, there’s a bus to Jeongdongjin once every hour. I’ve got about an hour to spare, so I decided to have lunch in Simgok! Found a potato ongshimi restaurant. The menu is full of Gangwon vibes with potato ongshimi, potato pancakes, sorghum pancakes, and more. The owner grandma greeted me so warmly—it feels like visiting the countryside. ‘Eoseo-ou-ya’—Is that a Gangwon-do dialect? Ordered the potato ongshimi kalguksu, and tried the sussubu-kkumi because I was curious what it was. It’s filled with sweet red bean paste and is chewy and sweet. Main star: potato ongshimi kalguksu arrives. Slurp! Some refreshing kimchi. The broth is subtle but totally umami and comforting. And chewy potato ongshimi too!! (So satisfied) This is what Gangwon-do tastes like..👍🏻 Does food taste even better after a seaside walk? Mindlessly finished a whole bowl of ongshimi kalguksu, and packed up the leftover sussubu-kkumi to have back at my place! (That was a good meal..) Waiting for the bus back to Jeongdongjin Station It’s oddly exciting to be riding a bus in the middle of the countryside. My card suddenly wouldn’t work when I tried to pay for the bus and I panicked. But another traveler who saw what happened kindly handed me some cash. I offered to pay them via bank transfer but they kept saying it was fine. So I decided to buy them a drink at a cafe. ☕️ Now I’m heading to a cafe with someone I just met on the bus, haha Thanks to a fellow traveler I met on the bus, I got to enjoy a cafe with a view of Jeongdongjin Station. Just chatting and sharing travel stories over dessert and drinks. Heading back to Gangneung Station now. On the way back, the ocean view out the train window was even prettier because of the sunrise. Finished my train trip and I’m back at Gangneung Station now. Heading to my hotel near Gyeongpo Beach. The reason I booked this place is, because you can see the beach right from the terrace! The bathroom is clean too, and the room is just the right size for one person. Tonight’s menu is mulhoe! This spot is famous for their jjamppong-style mulhoe with abalone, mixed fish, octopus, sea cucumber, and sea squirt. I got one serving to-go, snapped some pics with the ocean as the backdrop, and now I’m off to the convenience store for drinks. They sell Gangneung craft beer at the convenience store, so I grabbed one out of curiosity. On my way back, took a little walk along Gyeongpo Beach’s white sand. People were enjoying the romantic vibe of the beach as the sun set. Spent a bit too long wandering around with my takeout, so all the ice in my mulhoe melted🫢 But it still tastes good even melted 😋 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 It’s a bit intimidating to eat alone in a crowded restaurant, but eating takeout by the sea is just perfect. Polished off my mulhoe and the leftover sussubu-kkumi I brought with me. Wrapping up my day, gazing at the moon rising above Gyeongpo Beach. Got up early because I really wanted to see the sunrise. You can even see the East Sea sunrise while lying in bed. Maybe because I’ve gone to see sunrise on New Year’s before, I just get this sense of new beginnings every time I see the sunrise. Checked out and came to Chodang-dong for an early lunch. Put my name down at the restaurant I wanted, and now I’m strolling around the neighborhood. Chodang is known for its tofu, so you can spot murals about tofu-making everywhere. Here’s the place I’ll be having lunch today. Their tofu is made with local soybeans and East Sea saltwater. I love that you can actually watch them make tofu here. Their sundubu hot pot is amazing but since I’m alone today, I ordered the fresh tofu. It comes with soft tofu, kongbiji, and braised fish. Just added a bit of soy sauce—yum. The braised fish on the side is a sneaky rice thief. After lunch, heading to the sundubu gelato cafe across the street! I ordered a combo: sundubu gelato + black sesame powder + bear-shaped sweet jelly. It has everything I love—soft tofu, black sesame, sweet jelly..❣️ 💕💕 Gangneung has a ton of cool desserts made with local specialties: sundubu gelato, potato ongshimi latte, corn pudding, etc. Lots of fun stuff to try, so it’s hard to choose! After gelato, I’m heading for a stroll in Heo Gyun/Heo Nan-Seolheon Park nearby. Walking through the refreshing pine path. Breathing in that pine scent makes me feel like my lungs are getting cleansed (lol) Let’s check out Chodang-dong’s old hanok house too. This place is famous as the birthplace of Heo Nan-seolheon, a poet from the Joseon dynasty. The beautiful landscaping and the way the house blends with the pine forest is just stunning. It really shows off the classic beauty of hanok, traditional Korean houses. You can check out exhibits in the museum and join tea ceremonies at the tea experience center. While I’m here, I wanted to try out the tea ceremony, so I dropped by the experience center. I got permission and recorded a bit of the experience on video. It just makes you naturally act all graceful. They teach you the names of the teaware, how to brew the tea, and proper tea etiquette. There are honestly more rules than I thought. The traditional sweets they served with the tea were really good. There’s a traditional sweets village in Sacheon, Gangneung—and it’s honestly amazing. You can even try making traditional sweets, so check it out if you’re interested. Finished up my cool tea experience, and now I’m at Gyeongpodae. You’ve probably been to Gyeongpo Beach and Gyeongpo Lake, but not many have actually gone up to the Gyeongpodae pavilion itself. I wanted to show you the beautiful view from Gyeongpodae, so I came here. Gyeongpodae is one of the eight scenic spots of Gangwon that showcase Goryeo dynasty culture, and this pavilion is a designated treasure. If you’re a history buff, you should also check out Ojukheon and Seon Gyojang, but honestly, even if you just want to relax and admire the scenery, this is a great spot to visit. I saw this cafe yesterday on my way back to my guesthouse. There’s no sign outside but it was packed, so I wanted to try it. Their corn cream latte and corn pudding seem pretty famous. Since the place is pretty small, I got everything to-go and ate outside by the beach! Right next to Gyeongpo Beach. It was so hot, the pudding started melting. Super rich corn flavor. Probably would’ve tasted even better if it hadn’t melted. (Too busy filming AND eating, the life of a Youtuber) I demolished a corn pudding in no time. Let’s try the corn cream latte now. Loving the combo of thick corn cream and coffee. I can’t handle coffee, and my heart was racing until nighttime after drinking this..^^; There was time until the show I booked in the evening, so I read a book and relaxed on the beach. (It was a picture book, of course 🤓) Arrived at Gangneung Art Center for the performance! The art center always has a bunch of performances going on. This time I saw a show called ‘Architect of the Beach.’ It was an interesting mix of tradition, modern style, theater and opera. Gangneung’s beaches are gorgeous, but there’s so much to see and do with events, exhibitions, and performances too. There’s just never a dull moment here—perfect city for traveling. And that’s a wrap—ending my Gangneung trip with the Gangneung Art Center. Gangneung just brings nature, great food, and history all together. It’s special year-round, no matter when you come. Closing out the video—let me introduce a useful app for your Gangneung trip. ‘Tour Bridge Gangneung’ connects solo travelers with local travel agencies, and helps you create your own customized travel packages on a smart platform. You can fill your custom itinerary with intercity transfers, hotels, restaurants, and more, and even handle reservations and payments all in one place. Definitely seems super helpful for a Gangneung trip. I hope everyone watching enjoyed it as much as I did in Gangneung. Wishing you had a fun time watching—ending my vlog here. Thank you again for today—hope to see you all again soon and stay healthy! Bye! This video was filmed with support from the Gangneung Global Influencer Festa.
