ウォータートン・レイクス – 見逃せない、グレイシャーの姉妹公園！

some stories to tell… Seen parts of heaven and a whole lot of hell. Headed 
west to stake a claim in the ground.” Today we’re headed to Canada to visit 
the sister park of Glacier National Park, Waterton Lakes National Park of Canada. [Music] We spent the night here at a Harvest Host, which is called White Raven Winery. One other 
van that was staying here with us last night. Remember last time we were here and we went 
through Hungry Horse? Mhm. And you were getting all excited about that world famous What kind of 
pie was that? Huckleberry pie. Huckleberry pie. Yes. And they didn’t have any. Oh yeah, I remember that now. What 
a bummer. Well, now she’s going to get some. Pie. [Music] Is she in a hurry or what? It’s warm. It’s also 
small. It’s small. It almost looks like a factory made crust, doesn’t it? A little bit. Yeah. But 
basically, it resembles blueberry. I don’t know if you can even see that with the paper. It resembles 
a little morsel. That thing is small. It’s thick, but it’s like a shorter piece. Basically, 
warm that up. That’s warm. I told you that they say this is the famous huckleberry 
pie here. Famous. Actually, you know, inside Glacier Park, aer visitor center area 
at the visitor center, I had a it was like um cream. It was a h cream. That’s right. Good 
memory. That was good. I would take that over this. I forgot all about that. So, yeah, 
there’s a restaurant right there at the AP I think it’s Agar Agar Visitor Center. And uh 
we was working out in the parking lot all day and we went in for lunch and she had a piece 
of pie there of huckleberry cream. Wasn’t it at West Glacier? Wasn’t on the west end. But 
that is the visitor center as you’re coming in and they call it after whatever. I don’t 
know if it was all that hyped up to be. Now I have had a huckleberry shake too before and 
that’s good. It’s good warm like that. Yeah. [Music] You remember we stayed at that little BLM 
land back there and a hungry horse reservoir, wasn’t it? Uh-huh. Yeah. It’s a kind of a a rock 
rough road, narrow, very narrow, and it goes up a steep incline. And it was at night, very dark, 
very creepy. And uh I mean tree line real close to us if I remember right. And uh we get up at the 
top of the hill and pull in and it’s just dark as can be. And I think there was two or three other 
RVs. RVs. I think there was two and it looked like they’ve been there a while. Yeah. Beautiful views 
next morning and going across the dam was pretty very. So if you haven’t seen that video, go back 
and uh watch that of Glacier National Park. We’ve already pretty much done the Glacier National 
Park. However, we we’ve not been able to go all the way through going to the Sun Road because 
we are too long. Yeah. So, we went all the way through on both sides up to a certain point to 
that very end where they don’t let any vehicles over 20 uh ft go past. I think it’s Logan’s Pass. 
Is that the name of it? Where you So, it’s a very evidently a very tight turn or something. So we 
but looking at it on the map on Google Earth, it’s not that tight. I don’t understand cuz we 
could easily go through there. So I don’t know what the rationale is. But but anyway, we’re going 
to see the Canada side today, the sister park. Hopefully they let us in. Waterton Lakes National 
Park. As the road winds past the towering peaks of Glacier National Park, a hidden treasure waits 
just across the border. Waterton Lakes National Park, Canada’s fourth national park, born in 1895 
and nestled against the US border as Glacier’s majestic sister park. Together with Glacier, 
it forms the world’s very first international peace park, a living symbol of cooperation 
and friendship between two nations. [Music] [Music] There you go. Kind of over too far. Thank you. Just the two of you. Yeah. Yeah. Where 
you both live. in. Well, we travel full time, but the address is South Dakota. Address South 
Dakota. You want my driver’s license? No, that’s okay. How long will we be in Canada? Probably 
a week or two. We’re going to go up to Bamp and Jasper and then back down towards Seattle. 
Anything that you’re going to leave, sell, or give them away? No. No. All right. Thank you. Thank 
you. Well, that was pretty simple. Mhm. I think it was even easier than last time. I think so. The 
lady last time asked a lot of questions. Uh-huh. Here, the jagged mountains of the 
Rockies plunge into deep glacial waters, prairies roll seamlessly into alpine 
meadows, and wildlife roams in a land that feels untouched by time. Long days when 
[Music] we’ll pretend to be bold. [Music] Unlike its famous sister to the south, Waterton is 
quieter, less traveled, yet just as breathtaking. [Music] Never seem to be scared. My heart’s on pause whenever you’re gone. One 
day we’ll go anywhere. The charm here lies not only in the dramatic landscapes, but in the sense 
of peace that lingers in every view, every trail, and every shimmering reflection on the lakes. This 
extraordinary region has been sacred ground for over 10,000 years. Home to the Nietzetap and 
Katunaha peoples who followed herds of bison and gathered life from these valleys. The name 
Waterton itself, Baktomakame means the inner sacred lake within the mountains. In the early 
1900s, a humble settlement began to form here. Pioneers surveyed 150 town lots in 1910 while 
early businesses emerged, including a cookhouse, bunk house, blacksmith shop, and what 
would become the village site. Over time, it became more than a remote outpost. It came 
alive with lodging, shops, and local charm. A place you can walk today in Waterton Village, 
meeting generations old businesses and the vibrant heart of the park. We will travel many 
miles. Will we ever see? Gosh, we had no idea there was even a a village here with all these 
stores and restaurants and everything. Got me. Um, but the admission to get in right now is free. 
It’s from I think was it August and September? um from June something to about September 2nd 
for the national parks up here. And then some of the campgrounds are 25% off at during the 
same time period. Um one campground that we’re looking at was like for electric only was $36 
and then you take 25% off of that. But anyway, all right, we’re going to go walk around a 
little bit. It is almost 20 till 3 already. Found a parallel spot back here to 
park. This is the visitors center. Thank you. [Music] went and got a map and asked where the kind of the 
best places to see with little time and got some uh suggestions there. Now we’re going to take 
a quick little stroll through the town here. We don’t need a reason why. We just can’t. [Music] [Music] Where does it say that at? Oh, [Music] [Music]
[Music] [Music] having a dog. They 
have gluten-free options here. Gluten-free buns. Sausage. Ooh. 
Freshly made buns. Mhm. [Music] This is a definite stop. If you come here, make 
sure you uh stop here at the Waterton Park, I think they call it, don’t they? I 
think it’s like Waterton Park Village or something like that. Yeah. Really 
cool place. Stop and get a wiener. I did that. It was actually pretty 
good. All right, we need to go see some beautiful sites. Our next stop 
is about 20ome minutes away. I think he said we stopped at the visitor center and 
asked our which one are we going to next? Um right here we’re going to go up Red Rock 
Parkway and then go into Red Rock Canyon and then of that offense. Okay. Just steps from 
Waterton’s quaint village lies the townsite campground. With around 246 total sites, it offers 
everything from full service spots with electric, water, and sewer to electric only, tent 
only, and walk-in camping options. [Music] Just an FYI, just um right here in the Waterton 
Park area, there’s a dump station. Well, right next to the campground. It’s 
actually outside the campground. So, uh when we came out of the campground, 
it said dump station to the right. So, it’s like must be free. proceed to the roof cuz 
it’s not even in like I said it’s not even in the uh campground. But we’re going to go see if 
they have fresh water fill there and fill up our fresh tank cuz we just emptied our black tank. 
Oh my the p I need a photo. This is beautiful, isn’t it? I need a photo. [Music] So the water 
is potable. Just got to use your own hose. [Music] All right, we went ahead and 
emptied the tanks and got freshened up here. We didn’t we didn’t need 
to yet, but we’re going to go and do it so we don’t have to look for it 
later. Buys us a little bit more time. Just a short cruise up Red Rock Parkway leads 
you to a world painted in red and green. Red Rock Canyon, where ancient argulite 
is carved smooth and layered by time. [Music] This easy half kilometer loop guides you 
past vibrant rock, clear glacial water, and lush alpine vegetation, all 
framed by towering peaks. [Music] And towering above it all, the magnificent Prince 
of Wales Hotel crowns the High Bluff. [Music] [Music] What a cool place. Welcome to the Prince of Wales. Hi. Hello. [Music] Look at that view straight ahead. 
Look at that view. Built between 1926 and 1927 by the American Great Northern 
Railway. Yes, an American company. This grand Swiss chalet style hotel was meant 
to connect Glacier’s elegant lodges to Canada. It opened on July 25, 1927. Delayed but 
triumphant and marked the dawn of a new era for Waterton’s sleepy village. Named in hopes 
that Prince Edward, then the Prince of Wales, would visit, though he opted for a nearby ranch 
instead. The lodge’s rustic wood construction, soaring balconies, and dramatic lobby windows 
still evoked the golden age of railway resort travel. The hotel was officially recognized as a 
national historic site of Canada in 1992. Well, if you get a chance, come and check this place 
out, too. Really beautiful. I’m pretty sure I bet their food’s probably pretty good here, too. 
Yeah, we could have maybe got in on afternoon tea, but I don’t know. You said tea, darling. I don’t 
know if you were dressed for it, though. Why? Despite facing one of Waterton’s 
devastating wildfires in 2017, the hotel survived, an enduring 
icon of history and resilience. [Music] Today, when you walk its halls 
or sip tea on its terrace, you’re stepping into a story of 
landscapes sculpted by glaciers, communities woven from both indigenous and pioneer 
histories in a grand hotel that still watches over it all. Quietly bridging two national 
parks, two nations, and two eras. [Music] [Music] Welcome to the bison paddic. Where 
you supposed to go? Stay inside your vehicle at all times. H really we go in 
here? Some major potholes there. Yeah. Wonder how long this is. I know. 
I was going to say I didn’t see anything that said how long this loop is. [Music] Waterton Lakes National Park is 
a place where history, nature, and human connection intertwine. And 
once you’ve seen it with your own eyes, it’s impossible not to wonder why more 
people don’t make this journey. [Music]
